I was checking things out and found this clip, it's an older clip from the 70's but what they did was pretty amazing. This might be a little McCabe but i think it proves that what was done in yesteryear may be possible more so today. Take a look and be warned it maybe a little off for some folk, but still scientific and worth a look.

HOLY MOSES!!!!!!!!!!
that is incredible. i've never seen that before. so it can be done, but you're a quadraplegic from then on, seems a waste of a body, just to keep the head alive. they need more research on reconnecting the spinal cord to work again, once we figure it out, i see a head transplant happening.
wow thong, that's really wild!!!!!!

That reminded me of the experiments the Russian scientists did about the revival of dead organisms. I hope they didn't perform more experiments after they saw it could be done. That poor monkey brought tears to my eyes.
In some ways it is amazing. C'mon it's a freaking HEAD TRANSPLANT.
And then again not so surprising cos us living creatures are somewhat mechanical and if you attach the right things we work. It's sad how the monkey will never again have the feel or use of his "new" body. Shows that we have much to learn about our finer mechanics and understand the nerves better.
I saw a similar video, about a puppy being attached to a large dog's head. They connected the blood vessels. And they ate together, slept together etc. I'm guessing tons of similar experiments are being performed today, perhaps we have advanced, learned more and might save lives with that newly obtained knowledge.
I just wish we were advanced enough so that we wouldn't have to "learn" on such wonderful creatures.

I nearly made the mistake of clicking onto the link....luckily, for me I read Alara's post first...and I am so glad...because if I see anything about animals being tortured in the name of science, medicine, or anything, then....
1. my day/week is ruined
2. I NEVER forget the images...they are burnt into my memory FOREVER.
3.I start to feel very angry about the human race and think things like Avian flu epidemic? Bring it on! Global Warming? Hurry up and kill us all.(although the epidemic/plague senario is better because with a bit of luck only humans die).....
see...I'm getting angry just being reminded of animal experiments, just the thought of so-called intelligent people doing these things to a monkey....
Lets not kid ourselves....saving/improving human life is NO EXCUSE.
Experiments such as these are PURE EVIL.

bee,Unfortunately animal experimentation, will for the most part continue for many many more years. Experimenting on animals has led to many wonderful medicines that help millions around the world. I disagree with using animals to make a perfume smell better. It happens and it will continue.
jeceris it is amazing and you have to remember this was done in the early 70's and I can assure you it has been done since then and probably with much better success. It would be interesting to think that if someone was dieing of lung cancer they could do a head transplant and put your head on a recently deceased person. You might not have use of your limbs but you would still be alive. It's kinda creepy really.
Alara, ha I did post that video of the Russians raising the dead for Burnside a year or so ago and ya that was creepy to..... That was also done in the 60's I do believe and since then the medical advancements since then are amazing. You never know one day it may be possible to live 2-3 hundred years old yikes, that would suck ha ha I don't want to work for that long, although for the super rich it would be a benefit, hmmm I wonder who might fund such research*scratches head*

I felt bad for both monkeys. It broke my heart to see them used this way. Also, one head and body was destroyed. That poor chimp, or rather chimps. Ghastly and heartbreaking. I would never want a head transplant ever. I don't even know what they hope to achieve medically by people obtaining head transplants. I am perfectly happy with the one I have and I certainly wouldn't want my head on another body, or my body with somebody else's head.

This reminded me of a rumor (likely) that I've heard about the Nazis doing operations of that sort. However, human war hostages were used instead of animals. They would cut off the head of some prisoner and transplant it in the neck of another, making a total of two heads on one body. Yes, it sounds unbelievable, but it's technically possible with operations lasting for days, and with a success rate not exceeding 25%, but it's still possible. In one instance, the Nazi doctors connected a man's head into a woman's neck. The heads would speak to each other though - needless to say - they were in complete terror and amazement. The woman reportedly perished after a week.
There's possibly no actual evidence of those experiments now as they were top-secret cases and have never been spoken of.

That's horrible! Poor monkey! I'd like to decapitate those scientists! Oh, man.. that just ruined my morning. What sick people, I don't care for what purpose that was, that was horrible.

And what exactly was the point transplanting a head if the body becomes useless.

I doubt there was any point to it besides proving it can be done. I don't see any other "value" of such an experiment.
