Ok, so i just bought a drumkit, and I'm trying to learn how to play them. I wish to learn some basic stuff, alone, till next september cause i'm planning to attend drumming lessons by then. I'm kindly asking advices of any kind, for me to begin gradually and improve, maybe also some links where i can find serious and good drum lessons online. I did download some notes about rudiments, drumming notations etc, but for a beginer its quite confusing at first. Which are the steps that i need to follow to improve gradually?. Any advices and help of any kind would be highly appreciated yes.gif

Work on learning the rudiments first. Those will teach you several things, number one of which is each rudiment itself, second is how to follow a time signature, and third is how to read sheet music.

If you concentrate on learning the rudiments right now,the drum instructor will have a bit of an easier time when it comes to teaching you.Just take your time, and have patience.

I go to drumming circles and I have learned quit a bit. People are always willing to teach.

mm, I thought I heard my name. laugh.gif

Basically, what Wolf said.

Patience is hella important - it isn't going to sound awesomely grand in the beginning. It takes time to master, cripes it took me years to get the sound I wanted. Anyway - once you take lessons, as long as you take it seriously and actually practice and not fluff it off, you'll be fine. I've seen too many people start, buy alllll this crap, take lessons and get bored. mellow.gif I guess not everyone is cut out to be a drummer. *sigh*

Drumming circles is also a grand idea. grin2.gif

Anyhoo, If you need any help, feel free to PM me. Btw, Ykaedhi - Thank you. tongue.gif

thanks alot wink2.gif . Yeah the thing which i lack in is patience lol, but im trying to master it, cause im aware that to become good in anything u do it takes time and alot of practice. I will begin with rudiments than happy.gif

Yeah,I've seen a lot of people who acted like they wanted to learn...then never kept at it.

It does take a lot of patience in the beginning, especially if you don't know how fast a rudiment is supposed to be played or how it's supposed to sound. My advice is to learn the basics of each rudiment so that it becomes second nature to your mind *and* hands.Once you do this, you can start trying to do it at different speeds. If you have a recording of how it should sound at the correct speed, that'll help you out...*after* you've memorized the hand & stick movements. But,you really want to stick to learning one rudiment at a time.If you run into one that is too hard for you at first...go ahead and choose a different one...but remember to patient and stick with it.

Nothing annoys me more than that.

...I won't start ranting. laugh.gif
Wolf MacCanine

Heh...the ones that annoy me the most are the ones who say "Yeah...I've been playing drums for many years".Then they start tapping out beats on a table or something...and the beats aren't in any type of rhythm. wacko.gif
