user posted image rA seismologist at Washington University in St. Louis has made the first 3-D model of seismic wave damping — diminishing — deep in the Earth's mantle and has revealed the existence of an underground water reservoir at least the volume of the Arctic Ocean. It is the first evidence for water existing in the Earth's deep mantle. Michael E. Wysession, Ph.D., Washington University professor of earth and planetary sciences in Arts & Sciences, working with former graduate student Jesse Lawrence (now at the University of California, San Diego), analyzed 80,000 shear waves from more than 600,000 seismograms and found a large area in Earth's lower mantle beneath eastern Asia where water is damping out, or attenuating, seismic waves from earthquakes. The traditional method seismologists use to image the Earth below us is to measure the speed of seismic waves. This will provide a sort of CAT scan of the Earth's core and mantle. Using wave speeds alone is a problem, however, because they cannot distinguish between temperature and composition variations. The research is described in a forthcoming monograph, Earth's Deep Water Cycle, which is in press to be published by the American Geophysical Union.

Genesis 7:11
In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.

Still seem completely impossible?

I've never heard of an ocean being refered to as springs.....and I also have to say.....that I don't believe this one ocean..."springing forth"....could cause the entire world to flood.

Well, apparently this one didn't "spring forth" since it's still there, but if there is one, then there may have been many and even larger ones.

i'm not trying to force anything on anyone, i just wanted to point out from a neutral stance that some things in the Bible aren't as loony as people try to make it seem.....stay open minded

remember the Bible is not a modern book, the writer wouldnt know that "its a sub-continental ocean sealed in by tectonic pressure" all he would know is that there is a crap load of water coming out of the earth and the closet thing comparable is a spring.
Since804

if it is possible for there to be sub-continental oceans then when one ruptures, the void it would leave could cave in a-la-sink hole...could these sinkholes be the homes of our oceans? the time it would take for the water to runoff into the sinkholes(oceans) accounts for the time Noah had to wait for dry land to appear better evaporation alone.

just an open minded thought....

Now thats there water under there theres probably subterannian life as well. Giant tectonic groundhogs or something.

so so wrong.....please don't come condemning people's religions based of off shallow observation, this conversation was not disruptive or disrespectful. and for your own good, don't judge something w/o researching for yourself. if you actually read the Bible, you'll see that its actually very far from closed minded.

Is it possible that there might be life under there...possibly life that we've never seen before?

mellow.gif I just dont know how any of you can compare this discovery to the bible in any way. The bible is a positive influence in some ways but to compare this to it is just shallow, far fetched, and plain stupid. Religion isnt the answer to everything people.

i would sure like to see where anyone claimed the Bible is the answer...did you not read the posts?? sleepy.gif
my first post clearly implied my asking if it still seemed completely impossible for there to have been a great flood of some kind given there are multiple accounts of one happening.

So it appears, the newest "shallow, and plain stupid" post belongs to you. yes.gif

That 3,000 years ago one guy and his family traveled from the Middle-East, down through India, across the Indonesian islands, across the Timor Sea, walked the continent of Australia through deserts and forests, all the way down to the island of Tasmania to find two Tasmanian Devils and back again? Of course! thumbsup.gif

Lol..."irrelevant & unrelated", yeah you got me there, my post is clearly off topic, thats why people are responding. the bright bunch must have moved on to a new site. I remember this site being a little more intelligent and less like a videogame forum with people posting immature and uncalled for insults. oh well...
