Jesus said, The kingdom is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep. One of them, the largest, went astray. He left the ninety-nine and looked for the one until he found it. After he had toiled, he said to the sheep, 'I love you more than the ninety-nine.'

doesnt this sound a bit like a lucifer metaphor?

ok i checked wikipedia and found my own answer.

This is the parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15: 3-7 NIV

3Then Jesus told them this parable: 4"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' 7I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."

This is the parable of the lost sheep in Thomas 107 SV

107. Jesus said, "The kingdom is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep. One of them, the largest, went astray. He left the ninety-nine and looked for the one until he found it. After he had toiled, he said to the sheep, I love you more than the ninety-nine."

Yes honey, just as Jesus said about that one sheep so does God feel about that lost angel his once favorite, Satan. Same goes for other fallen angels, God wants his flock back, He is afterall their Father (Benai Elohim which means 'Sons of God' is a term for angels).

As the Gospel of Thomas is a Gnostic Gospel, it is important to understand the Gnostic view on "Satan".

In the Pistis Sophia we see the Feminine Principle of Divinity desirous to emanate without the consent of her Consort (the beginning of the spiritual wickedness in high places which permeates the material universe). The product her desire is described as ugly, blind and arrogant. He is depicted in Gnostic writings as taking the "stuff" which had been emanated by the Source (aka First Consciousness) and molded it together into worlds, and then claiming all glory for himself, "I am god and there is no other." As the Spirit of human beings were properly emanated by the Syzygy represented by Father-Mother and Christ-Sophia.

Hence, the entity which mainstream Christianity calls "Devil" and "Satan" is my blind, arrogant, half-brother. He is the personification of Darkness because of his blind arrogance, but he will also be enlightened and join the Fullness. The Fullness (Pleroma) would be neither balanced nor full without him. Eventually all human beings will transcend this material universe and see the Demiurge as a flawed maker who produces a flawed universe.

One interesting point in the Gnostic view of Genesis is that the Serpent is overshadowed or possessed of the Holy Mother Sophia, and it enlightened the first humans as the reality of the fool's paradise they had been cast into. It is the Demiurge who curses the Serpent and then Adam and Eve.

What is the Demiurge's purpose in the scheme of things? Well, as long as he can keep us distracted from the truth of our condition we will continue to be ignorantly reincarnated until we figure it out and practice transcendence. That's when we are free to return to the Fullness first while still in the body, and then after leaving the body.

Peace.

The Gospel of Thomas was also written in the late 2nd Century, at least half a century later than then latest of the canonical gospels (John) . And that is going by the most liberal dating available (more conservative dating would push Thomas closer to a century later than John).

I think it is just as valid as the other gospels.

The Gnostics would say that the OT deity Yaweh is a composite of both the Demiurge and the Father of the Universe, that's why there are conflicting passages regarding him in the OT. All those passages dealing with revenge and blood sacrifice are believed to refer to the Demiurge, while those about wisdom, light and love are about the Father of the Universe. We have a saying that Yahweh/Jehovah is a just god...on a good day, and he doesn't have many of them. disgust.gif

In the Gnostic Gospels Jesus is presented as a revealer of mysteries, the savior who helps us in our journey back home to the Fullness, rather than a sacrificial offering. He is considered the embodiment of the Logos, the Word, the Christ, a deific being at once the Father and the Son (Jesus did say that he and the father were one...).

I hope this helps.
