It's a good game. The "best" is opinion, I think FF 7 is the best from Square. But that's just me.

i've played ff4-10 except for the exception of ff6..playing that atm.
ffx was supreme..beat it twice and saving it for later

, had a huge epic story. i liked ff10 better than ff7. auron is cool, rikku is an obnoxious skank!

Final Fantasy 10 and 7 were definitley the best but i like'd them all. FF7 and 10 were great for leveling up so these were greatest for never stopping the game! (One of my FF10 files is more than 330 hours.)

*Sighs* FFX was......... mostly glow and no go. It was plenty pretty and had some nice cgi sequences, but it felt so shallow. Tidus just whined all of the time, and then right before the end they try to make him all mature by trying to figure out how to save Yuna. the problem was he just acted like an idiot for about 80 percent of the game and then by the time they tried to turn his dispostion around I didn't care about him anymore. I actually managed to predict the ending to an extent. (I wasn't spot on, I thought either Yuna or Tidus would be gone in the end.)
The battles weren't really improved in any way from the previous games. I suppose "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", but they didn't even try really. I do like Auron, but he's pretty much the same Vincent/Squall/Amarant character with different looks.
I really didn't like the "single-path world". Everything was basically one long hall. At least in XII they have a whole world with paths that go every which direction. Training suffered from the single-path approach, because you had to travel long distances to get where you wanted to train and then the areas (with a few exceptions) were fairly constrained in their size (i.e. they were small).
Sphere grid was interesting, but it was so ....circular. It was difficult to even know where you were going or where you would want to go. I know it is a small complaint, but my levels help me keep track of where I am and spending them throws me totally off track. The license board does effectively the same things, but it is easy to keep track of and is more efficient. Personally, I'd still rather have the job system from FFT, but the license board isn't bad.
My main thing is essentially this: I am a traditional RPG player. Underscore the traditional part three times. Although story is important, you are going to spend most of your time in battles and leveling and getting new weapons, etc. In order for me to really like an RPG, it has to have a battle/leveling system that is enjoyabe and addicting. FFX does not have that. The battle system is the same as in FFVIII with very minor improvements, and the ability system isn't innovative other than making you go around in circles desparately trying to get good abilities/stats that are in unknown directions. Now it may have been possible for me to play a cruddy system, if the story was great. FFX doesn't have a great story. It's alright I suppose, but the characters were flat for most of the game and then they tried to make them interesting at the end. One of the major rules of fiction is that you have to make readers care about your characters, so when things happen to them the reader becomes emtionally involved. I didn't care at the end what happened to Tidus, because they didn't bother to try to make me care about him until the very end and by that time I was just playing to get it finished.
Now, VII suffered from some of the same system problems, but it had tons of stuff to do and a brilliant story.
My vote for best goes to none of the games, because they are each very unique and I like different ones for different things. I liked the first three for their wide-openness snd difficulty. I like IX for all of the interesting battles and spot-on story. I like VIII for overall feel, and the story, despite the ability/magic system kinda sucking. I don't like X2 at all. XII has a great story (twisty and complex, FFT-style), fun battles, and huge landscapes.

FFVIII on the other hand... pwned.

It is the second best out of the numbered Final Fantasies...FF7 being number one.
Blitzball is still my favorite mini game from the Final Fantasy series...FF7's Chocobo Racing being number two...The card systems being number 3.
I loved the quicker pace of the battle system and the ability to swap characters out. Loved the Grid System. The story was pretty good(almost cried at he end) and loved how it was told kind of in flashback.
The only things I didn't like about FFX was that there was no world map, nobody ever said Tidus' name which led to weird dialogue(this is because you could change Tidus' name), and it spawned FFX-2.

Square wanted to keep the tradition of giving the chance to rename your characters. Since it was the first Final Fantasy to have the characters speak out loud, you couldn't change the characters names for that reason. But they never said Tidus name as to keep the tradition of renaming your character.

Which was annoying...more apparent in FFX-2 where all the characters would refer to Tidus as He, Him, etc. which would make odd and weird dialogue(reminded me of Harry Potter and He Who Must Not be Named).
The tradition shouldn't have bin kept in my opinion.

Have to agree with you for FFX-2. I would've thought that since you don't rename Tidus or use him as a character in FFX-2, someone would have said his name once. Maybe at the very end, but even then, Yuna says this:
Yuna: It all began when I saw this sphere...of you.

Tidus' name didn't even appear in the text conversations of NPC characters. The only time you ever saw the main character's name was above dialogue boxes and in the start menus.
You use to be able to name all of the playable characters...but they didn't keep that tradition so IDK why they kept the tradition of naming the main character.
I think one of the reasons behind naming the main characters in games is so you can pretend to be the characters by using your name...since way back when the main character didn't have much of a personality(Even Squall and Cloud). This is also Nintendo's reason behind being able to name Link and not giving him a voice. But Tidus had a distinctive personality.

Actually as far as I remember at the very start of FFX, there is someone who you can talk to in Zanarkand who will say something like: Good luck with the match tonight Tidus.
The producers probably thought it would be good to have the name in written dialogue at least once and see his name re-named if you re-name Tidus.

Personally i think FF10 was not the best ever by Square Soft. The best FF in my opinion was 7, then 8, then 9 and then 10. I have played the other ones and are great but i don't rate them in my top three nor five of FF. 10 was a great game graphical wise, storyline wise, but for me it lacked the overall quality to take the role of the best square soft game ever, that for me falls with 7 as its got cult status, wereas 10 never will. If you ask most FF gamers many would say taht 10 was the worst in the series thus far, many would also say the series got worse as it went along and are looking at FF12 to set the record straight. And for 12 does not let down, as 12 reminds me of FF9 in a lot of ways so far, not a hjuge fan of the new battle system but i suppose once one gets used to it, it will be better.
10 is a good game, but it does need to be said that it is not the best of all squares games, maybe graphical pre12, but as for storyline, funness to play that all goes to FF7 then 8. For me.

12's battle system takes a moment to get used to, but once you do it's almost painful going back to the old static, turn-based battles. Getting licenses and levelling up can get addicting, and the same goes for getting all of the hunts and filling up the bestiary. Glad you liked 9, most people (i.e. newer FF fans) didn't like it because of the art style.

Personally FF is the only reason i own a PS2, if not for it i wouldn't have one. FF9 for me though some think of it as a poor game for me it had a decent storyline and good graphics for its time. But i have to admit the FF12 system is growing on me, its just a shame they haven't gone back to the old style levels or even that of a similar system to Star Wars KOTOR 1 and 2 were you can pick what abilities you wish to strength and what skills to learn. Still FF12 is the best 'square-enix' game, the best 'square sof' game is FF7.
I'd like to point out there was two companies one called 'square soft' the other 'Enix' they merged and since the games have not been the same for some reason. So fans of FF10,9,8,7..etc were all square soft games. Anything since 10 in the series was made after the merger. And personally 10-2 was horrible, and 11 was well average and 12 has got to a good standard.

I'm not a huge fan of FF12's battle system because you didn't actually have to DO anything because of the Gambit system. In Non-Boss battles I can just put the controller down and watch the battle unfold. I like FFX's battle system because it was fast and fluid and still gave you control.
I prefer the grid system over the License system because you can adjust stats...unlike FF12 where every character was basically the same. Also in FF12 you get more LPs then you actually need so there isn't much of a strategy to placing them.
Out of the core numbered Final Fantasy games(not Tactics, Crystal Chronicals, or even FF11) these are my favorites in order:
1.FF7
2.FF10
3.FF12
4.FF9
5.FF8
6.FF3(The DS version, not the FF3 we got on the nes)
I haven't got around to playing FF5or 6 yet though.

In a way i'm prefering the 12 battle system due to it being kind of like the Star Wars KOTOR style. For me its a big improvement., as for FF10 as it was still command system i much prefered FF8 or 7's style. But still i feel 12 has improved the gameplay, because you got two options really if your changing he battle system;
1 - Current FF12
2 - Jade Empire/Kingdom Hearts were you do the fighting by pressing buttons.
OR stay command system but on a whole if its going more interactive then theres the current system which i more prefer or the JE or KH style.

You
can just let the gambits do their thing, but (1) they're not to terribly smart and (2) you'd look like such a toolbox. You need the gambits to control the characters easier, but you also have the option of controlling all of them directly. As fars as the still battle systems goe, ten isn't really improved over the previous games at all. I did like the fact that you could change characters mid-battle, but you can do that plenty in twelve as well.
In the grid system, any character can have anything on the grid (with enough work) and that's pretty much with same with the license board. Yes, ultimately you can get more license points then you need, but at least that allows you to get any and all of the things that you want, whereas in ten they almost
enjoy starving you of spheres and draining away your levels. Also there is strategy in what you get on the license board, because you still ahve to work for points. Unless you happen to get thousands of points at the beginning of the game, you have to carefully choose which licenses will benfit you most until you rack up more points.

I decided for the fun that I would use him outside. And just for him getting good experinece. (As he gets very little cause Botta and Jassu are good defenders) I still put him back in goal, even though his catch stops and something like 39 or 45. Either way, Tidus Jecht Shot 2 is always best to use but nearly takes a minute of the game time. At least 20+ times that I was about to score before a goalie would use the grip gloves technique and super goalie, wasting time and the game stops for the ending or second-half. Still a great shot to use!

Not many people were into IX as much as the other Playstation releases. I still thought IX was brill as well. But I wouldn't decide it as my favourite. People might have enjoyed the change of FF VII and VIII but IX went back to a more traditional form for example, the black mages like Vivi.
