I found
THIS VIDEO while doing a search on youtube. Normally I don't really care for this sort of thing, except that it happens to be somewhat close to where I live, which makes me a little more interested. Many of the replies on youtube seem to say it's a chewbacca costume, and the first time you see the face, I seem to get that impression. But on replay, especially the slow-motion review, I'm not so sure it is. I happen to be a bit of a Star Wars buff, and it doesn't really look like chewbacca at all. If it is Chewwy, it's a very bad costume version of him.
What are your thoughts on this video?

Their reaction is just too bland for it to be real imo

I think the reaction of the people was far too composed and unnatural. Maybe they are not easily scared...However, if I was walking around in the dark and saw a huge hairy beast lurking behind a tree I would scream or swear or both.

Chewbacca. OR perhaps an oversized Ewok.

Whatever it is, it sure is one ugly thing. All... hairy... and stuff.
Their reaction seems fake. It's like they knew it was there. The whole thing reeks of a pretty bad attempt at fooling a few gullible souls.
"What's that?"

I just think it's strange so many different culture's have the same story about a hairy creature, I don't give much thought to the video's on youtube myself....

That had to be stage. If I saw a Wookie in front of me, I would have drop the camera and run like hell.

That camera would have been a weapon. That camera, and my loud screams of terror.

You make some interesting points, specifically about the blandness of their reply (and yes - "What was that" is such a cliche response for videos like this). Though because they are so cliche, does that automatically mean it is fake? I'm not saying this is real. Probably isn't. But just because they weren't screaming in terror doesn't mean that their reactions weren't genuine. Put it this way, if they did scream and cry "OH GOD, WHAT WAS THAT THING?", we'd all be saying it was overacted.
I stand by my original comment though - if that is Chewbacca, it's a very badly done costume of him

The video in question was produced by Marco Nero, the celebrity graphic artist living in Sydney, Australia who worked the scenery matte paintings for Star Wars III and whose most recent project was as conceptual designer for the animated film, "Happy Feet." He announced this video clip on a laser enthusiasts discussion forum board and sent out hundreds of copies upon request before another laser enthusiast posted the video clip on YouTube.
I am the Squatchdetective investigator who initiated correspondence with Marco Nero about this video clip.
Marco Nero provided us with an original copy of the video clip along with the following marked map showing the weekend house location he rented with his wife and her friends in Katoomba, New South Wales. His testimony is that the video clip in question was produced on June 24, 2006 while he was taking pictures of how his green laser light looked at night being shot over a nearby ravine. The green arrows in Mr. Nero's map indicate the direction he was aiming the green laser.

I doubt he would have chased it around the tree if it was real lol.

I think that the Yowie shown on this tape went to the Bug's Bunny school of evading a person- run around the tree until you are on the other side and he can't see you, thus giving up the chase. Repeat as necessary.
It does annoy me a bit to see things like this because every hoax makes it that much harder for real investigators to be taken seriously. On that note, its still funny
