Yeah. I just purchased the 9-disc DVD boxset, and I really enjoyed the first two. I intend to watch the rest of the movies today. What are your opinions on them? Do you own the ALIEN series?

The Alien series was always one of my favourites. I watched Aliens when i was about 5 and loved it ever since. I've probably watched that movie well over 200 times by now over the last 18 years or so.
For my 20th birthday i was privaledged enough to be taken to see Alien in theatres, remastered, it was quite an awesome spectacle! Probably my favourite theatre experience.

I'm afraid you will be disappointed with 3 and 4, they suck. 3 can become average the more times you watch it, like an aquired taste but 4 is awful; even Cameron who made 1 and 2 says he wishes he never gave away the rights to Alien to the people who made the others

They have their own entertainment value, but certainly do not stack up to the first two.
Apparently Alien3 was an absolute horror in itself to make, the director had really great things planned for the project, but the studio limited all his creative ideas and input and ended up giving him extremely little space to work. The director ended up hating the project all the way through. We should have gotten a very different Alien3, but alas.

Aliens is definitely the best of the lot, and like Burnside I have watched it on numerous occasions. In fact i am watching it now on Sky Cinema 1.

Michael Biehn was a very under appreciated actor in my opinion. He has a magnificent career spanning everything from The Terminator and Aliens to all sorts of minor TV and movie roles, voices for all sorts of video games, etc, but he really should have done more. A lot more. He's a terrific actor and i'm always so suprised after seeing his performances in said movies that he didn't really do more than minor TV roles here and there after the 80's. Fortunately that seems to be about to change with three relatively large movies coming out this year, including Tarentinos 'Grindhouse' which i'm rather excited for.
I always felt he should have had more of a Bill Paxton-esque career. Also a terrific actor of course. And, as a point of reference, the only person having been killed by an Alien, a Predator, and the Terminator respectively. You could also count Jenette Goldstein in that if you overlook the fact that technically, Gorman killed Vasquez in Aliens, she wasn't killed by an Alien. And well, i guess wasn't technically killed by the Predator either, just taken out of action.
hrmm sorry, i tend to ramble in these types of topics lol.

Alien 3 and 4 may have been a little below the first two, but they weren't totally useless, and was a helluva lot better than AVP (though AvP also had its own certain charm, but I found the location more tense than the actual battles, truly - rooms changing around, for example).
ANywho, Aliens is great. I haven't got the Quadrilogy, only an original release of the movie box-set. I want to see the Special Edition of Alien in particular. I'm thinking it would be just great.
Interesting points about Michael Biehn, Burnside. Thanks. Trivia night, here I come, lol. I agree that Biehn never received the acolades he deserved (The Abyss, and The Rock are two other great movies that he was involved with, to name just two). He seems to be the perennial Support Actor. Never playing the major role, but always playing a major part.

I just watched the last two last night, and I must say... they seemed to lack the intensity that the first two had. The first two had alot more tension in different scenes, which made them alot more enjoyable. Alien vs. Predator = quite the decent film, as well. I rather enjoyed that. Also, is there any word on an ALIEN 5 being released?

I thoroughly enjoy the Alien series. I will agree, Alien and Aliens are far more spectacular than 3 and 4. I owned the series when it was just the 3 movies, before Resurrection came out and I had them on VHS! Still good to watch though.

Man, i thought AVP was a seriously horrible movie. Utterly dreadful.
I don't think there will ever be an Alien5. The next movie we'll see, unfortunately, is AVP2.

AVP could have been good, but they tried to give it a story. No one cared about the humans in that movie, they just wantd to see aliens and preds pounding the crap out of each other. they wasted more than half the movie building up to just that.

The main fault was that they made it a friggin PG movie or whatever. I don't think i remember seeing a shade of red in the whole movie. You can't take two ultimate gory human-killing machines and turn it into a friggin kids movie!
