whats your guys favorite comic book, character, movie that deals with a comic, etc.
Captain Rachael
I would have to say the most lame is Antman. The ability to shrink in size and battle ants? I THINK NOT!

I am not an avid comic book reader, but i have i like The Ultimates and comics that run canon to my favourite Movies/Tv Shows. Ie; Star Wars. It kinda expands the said Movie's universe and makes it more real for me. yes.gif

Most comics are horrible these days...you know you hit rock bottom when Spider-man literally turn into a giant spider, becomes pregnant, finds out he got his powers from a spider totem god, developes a new power that allows him to shoot spikes out of his arm, revealed that his first girlfriend slept with his arch nemesis out of pity, and becomes Iron Man's side kick. I'd rather read the Clone Saga again.

The only comics that I have read that I can say that are good are Runaways, Young Avengers, Astonishing X-Men, The Ultimates, and Ultimate Spider-man.

I hear Planet Hulk is good but I haven't read it.

I don't read any of DC's comics but I read Batman: Hush and that was awesome...I was going to read Infinite Crisis until someone told me that Super-boy Prime punches a whole in time which basically resets everything.

I don't buy comics I just read my friend's.

I thought sin city was kick ass

I agree, today's comics suck. Nothing will ever top the Avengers. They'd better make a movie!!!

An Avenger's movie would be cool, but as far as I know their isn't one in the works yet. Justice League is a possiblity, but it could be several years off. They have reintroduced Superman and Batman and in the next 2-3 years they are planning Flash (I think Ryan Reynolds is the frontrunner for this one), Green Latern, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman (If they can get a writer and director to stay. Joss Whedon was the last to dump this project). The the idea has been passed around that if the Justice League movie does get slated, then they could use the stars of the individual projects to comprise the combined epic.

On the Marvel side, I know Iron Man is coming out soon, a Wolverine solo movie is supposed to be released late next year, Punisher 2, a Hulk 2, as well as countless X-men spin offs, and Marvel is hoping that they can recapture the Blade success with a bunch of other lesser know heroes like Iron Fist, and Black Panther.

For those in the indie circuit Sin City 2 and the upcoming Watchmen movie should be great. Don't forget 300 that comes out next week also!

As far as the comics, right now (and this changes every so often), I personally think that DC has the best writers. JLA, JSA, Teen Titans, Green Lantern, and the Batman comics are all pretty good right now. There are others, but these are my personal favs.

Marvel is in a bit of a slump right now, but Planet Hulk is one of the few really good storylines that they have going (look for World War Hulk this summer as the next big crossover event). X-men were always my favorites, but all of their storys have gotten either convoluted or just plan dull, except for Astonishing X-men which has stayed pretty good.

Just my 2 cents.

One of the best comic series I'm diggin right now is the Marvel civil war in which Captain America is squaring off again'st Iron Man. Essentially what happen is Bush enacts the super hero registry in which all heros have to reveal their identity to the government. Iron Man fully supports this but Captain America sees it as a violation of civil rights. The heroes then divide themselves into opposing camps and fight for either the law or their civil rights to keep their identities secret.

A couple of my favorites:

The Punisher. über violent, über dark and amazing storylines from Garth Ennis
Hellblazer: Constantine. Much better than the film
Preacher. A work of pure genius
Sandman
Spiderman. Can't beat him and i LOVE the new change
Cyanide and Happiness. Well, sure it's a webcomic

You betcha, I think it's an innovative change.

When you think about it, characters need to evolve to maintain a degree of plausibility. I prefer Spidey changing radically than him staying mundane and boring like Captain America did before someone (thankfully) got rid of him with a bullet to the head. I thought the new costume was beautifully designed and the new change has shown a massive evolution in the character

I've never been a comic book reader, but I do read the cartoons in the paper. Dilbert is still a favorite, and I like another one called Mother Goose and Grimm.

As far as Web comics/cartoons go, I love Foamy the Squirrel. That little dude just slays me.

Dilbert makes me chuckle too grin2.gif

As for webcomic, you can't beat Cyanide and Happiness

A lot of the changes they made go against the character....like Civil War, I never understood why he revealed his identity or was even on Iron Man's side to begin with. Sins Past/Remembered destroyed the character of Gwen Stacy and The Other destroyed the Spider-man mythos.

I don't care about new costumes or new powers...its the reason why he has a new costume and new powers.

I'm all about evolving the character of Peter Parker but he is acting out of character. With Marvel's current management they won't allow his character to really grow...he's pushing thirty years old but Marvel still writes his character like he is twenty.

Marvel needs to let the character grow and not just change.

Yeah but in the Marvel world, the only character i've actually seen age accurately is the Punisher, being that he's now 50-60 odd years old in the MAX imprint. None of the other characters have aged properly

They do for the most part. In the Marvel Universe a little over ten years have passed since the events of Fantastic Four #1...somebody who worked at Marvel said this awhile ago so more time has probably already passed. A lot of the characters have aged accuretly for the most part, Shadowcat was 13 when she joined the X-Men and is now into her twenties, The Richard's kids have aged, The original X-men are either 30 or pushing thirty and they started out as teens, etc. The characters may not age 100% accurately depending on who we are looking at(The Young Avenger kids seemed to grow up faster then the Richard kids). Spider-man seemed to age at the same rate as the other major players in the Marvel U though.

Now the characters current ages are rarely ever said out side their origin issue but there are easy clues to pick up to tell their age. Spider-man started his web slinging career at the age of sixteen and ten to fifteen years have passed since then in the Marvel Universe. Since Spider-man has never had anything happened to him that would effect his age he should be in his late twenties or older. Characters like Nick Fury, Captain America, Magneto, Wolverine, and Iron-man have had things happened to them that kept them young and/or effected their age...Spider-man has not. Looking at other characters that have not have their age effected through retcon or cloning we can see that Spidey should at least be in his late twenties...if he was any younger it wouldn't make sense.
