Err, why exactly have I got -1 New Messages

Admit it, you've been time travelling again haven't you? If you will read tomorrows messages before they arrive then it is going to confuse the system.

p.s. I've just travelled into the future and SaRuMaN is going to blame it on probable a bug in the Invision Board software.

This is a known bug in the new patch, Invision are looking in to it.

NOt saying Saruman is up to this but on a board I visited before it turned out that the admin was reading people's Private Messages and we all started getting this showing up.

I have no idea if someone can hack into your PMs but just thought I'd put the heads up out there.

For the record I am not suggesting the Saruman would do this.

This is solely an issue with the 2.2.2 patch implemented yesterday, nobody is hacking people's private messages.

There are currently discussions going on in the Invision support boards about this problem, so far nobody has managed to devise a fix for it, however I will be implementing one here as soon as it becomes available.

It appears that a lot of Invision board forums are experiencing the problem.

I've implemented a temporary fix by resetting everyone's new PM count to 0 if it was a negative number, i'm not sure if that will fix the root of the problem but it should have resolved the issue for the moment.

Now mine is -1.

I suspect that Mars has answered that point.

The abovementioned fix has now been incorporated directly in to the private message system source code, anyone still getting negative numbers of private messages ?

Saruman, should I wait before I implement this newer version on my forum? Or, is this patch updated already with the fix?

I don't think this is fixed in the patch, so it's possible that if you update now you will experience this problem. As far as I know this is (ironically) a bug fix release and there shouldn't be any security risks involved in keeping the older version for the time being.

If you do update, there is a way to resolve this issue that requires running an SQL query and changing one of the script source files, if you need the method let me know.

Thanks boss, I'll let you know after I talk to Joc about it. I really don't see much of a point to update yet, seeing as my traffic is down. lol, That's only because I've been so busy. So, in the near future, we will resolve this problem. Thanks again.

Mine has gone back to 0. Thanks Saru.

Mine went from -8 to -14 in one day! And when I got new messages the number went down to 0 eventually.

I even PM'ed Lottie about it.

They're ok now, though.

That bug has been there for a long time, still waiting for Invision to fix that one.

I noticed today that when I got a PM, the counter that was previously showing negative numbers for everyone else remained at 0. The little pop-up box didn't appear either when I signed in. Anyone else having this problem?

My memory's not the greatest but I think I wasn't having this problem before Saru fixed the negative messages bug.

This site use firefox?
