My roommate and her friend have a debate going on.

Here is the question.

Would you care if there were no more purely animated feature films being released in the theaters?

This includes anime, stop motion...any form of animation.
This assumes that if they are not being shown in theaters, they will not be released on dvd.

If this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it original.gif

So long as they're good movies, I wouldn't care if they were done in non-animation.
Shakezulah
Well, there are some really good and entertaining animated movies out there. It wouldn't make sense to discontinue all of them all together. It will also never happen. But to answer your question, yes, I would care.
Cadetak
I don't watch them but they are needed.

Indeed they are. They are an essential part of anyone's childhood! Ah, i remember the days of Musical Disney films; The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Aladdin. THOSE were reaaaaaal animated films.
I doubt, if i had children, they would want to sit through all three Godfather movies etc.

Animation does a lot of things that real life actors just can't. Look at things like Spirited Away and The Nightmare Before Christmas (not a movie I particularly like, but have a lot of respect for). There are some truely terrible things like all the Disney sequals. I really wish Disney would just stop with those! There are now 3 Cinderellas somehow. ohmy.gif

I'm truly not a fan of Disney at ALL. But as wild as it seems coming from a 40 year old woman, some of the Anime feature lengths are really good. Spirited Away is a great example. And I can't deny that I loved both Shrek movies.

I don't care ... I rarely watch animated films.

I dont care all iknow is that "hand drawn/Cartoon" like the lion king and and snow white are out
CGI Is in animation out

Prince of persia was originally going to be "hand drawn cartoon" but will be live action

Its estimated that it costs the same amount for one person sitting at a computer doing a whole movie vs 50 origianl animators doing hand drawn scene

I voted 'no' because I don't care about much anyway.
Celumnaz
voted yes, I care a little... I like them and enjoy them and don't mind supporting the talent, creativity, and hard work that goes into it

Heavy Metal was a great movie
MoonPrincess
I'm not going to vote. Since I really don't care. And animated films didn't even bother me at all.

I would have to execcute someone, the Simpson's movie is coming out this summer, and no one will keep me from it.

This will never happen....

Computers have made animation cheap and within recent years better then traditionally hand drawn and coloured cartoons. Most cartoons even ones that look traditional are done on the computers with programs like Flash and Adobe or 3D programs like Maya and 3DMax etc.
