dont expect much response, but many of u have been subjected to this on threads where it really didnt belong....
this is the only solution.
if ur not familiar with the topic rolleyes.gif have a look about, wont take long untill u come across it.
if have been bothered enough to read through the points raised and bypass the abuse that has ranged both sides, youre gonna come down one way or the other by now. so its crunch time.
i got involved in the debate at a late stage, and read thru the arguments...and decided that
dragons, whilst an important feature of many myths and cultures, do not and never really existed. One creature responsible for the many varied representations across the world often controlling whole civilizations and tribal peoples. real tangible creatures, that still roam the earth and skies today- oh and the oceans.
the argument became polarised, and had few participents, so id love to know what everybody thinks.
Id like this to be a 'no holds barred' thread with 'no punches pulled' Im open to scruitiny and criticism; and a measure of abuse...as much as the moderators will allow, and i ask them to be lenient.
i wont be visitin as often as i have, coz im exhausted by the subject and have other commitments, but ill try to engage any questions/requests when i do....
thanks in advance. grin2.gif ps. hope ive set this up right.....

I believed they existed. It's my choice. People might say something else. But that's them. :3 So I voted "yes" in the poll.

Personally I don't believe there were dragons. There have been a lot of fossils that may have looked like dragons, but the standard issue dragon that has been talked about in the recent threads are mythology in my opinion.

It's possible. There are dragons or dragon-like creatures in just about every culture so I can't rule it out completely.

Grem, let me explain why dragons appear in so many different threads dealing with spirituality and religion. It is because there is an aspect of dragons if virtually every religion there ever was. But there are some very unknowledgable people who seem to think they are not a part of Judao Christian beliefs because their Sunday School teachers didn't tell them about it, and this is apparently their level of Biblical knowledge. So if the subject of "Seraphim" is discussed in the contexts of mythic spirit-daemons stolen by Christians from Greek mythology, it is a service to the readers to explain the real origin of the Seraphim, as their very name implies, from the throne guarding, Sumerian Mushushu dragons of the beliefs that formed the very basis of the Judao-Christian religions. The problem is that some people do not like their naive sunday school notions challenged by irrefutable facts.

I will be the first to say that if there is no God/supernatural creator entity/etc. of any sort, and that if life on earth is merely the accidental mixture of chemicals, tempterature, and atmosphere, then yes, "dragons" like the Gods they serve (or the Gods themselves) in virtually every human religion and belief, probably do not exist either. But if there is a supernatural creator entity, as the vast majority of humans believe, then is is highly probable, amost mandatory even, that there are dragons as well, for they have a major presence in virtually every human religion, and particularly so in all of the oldest ones in which we have records, and in every corner of the habitable world.

And while some people believe it is foolish to believe in a creator God, there are many brilliant scientists that do, far more brilliant than anyone who spends time on this forum trying to discredit human beliefs.

So yes, if a creator God is "real", then the dragons that serve this God, or even are this God, eerily similar around the world, must also be real. But being supernatural entities, they are not easily caught, but apparently still ocassionally seen as many of the cryptid threads on UM illustrate. And they have been commonly reported in countless tales, by even the greatest scientists of past ages. But it is pretty clear that the myths of humans actually killing one are just so much wishful thinking and tall tales.

This is exactly why every ancient culture believed they were real, yet no physical remains of them have ever been found in a post Cretaceous context. So yes, if any God is real, there are undoubtedly dragons related to that God, like virtually every God. And in fact, there is far more evidence of the world-wide belief in the universal dragon, than any individual God. Dragons, in fact, are the universal link and a proof in the compatibility and oneness in all of the world's great religions.

Personally I think that dragons still do exist. Maybe on other planets or other dimensions. Everything is as real as you believe it to be. grin2.gif
