He had his moments, but yeah, I haven't watched the Report for ages now.
I've only seen one episode of Little Mosque, and it was okay I think, but I couldn't get over the fact that it felt like a ripoff of Corner Gas, which is the best comedy, Canadian or otherwise, in a long time IMO. I've been criticized for saying this, but in a way it just felt like CBC saw what CTV was getting out of Corner Gas and asked themselves 1) How can we do our own Corner Gas and 2) What's the hot topic right now? So they smashed together Corner Gas and Islam and hoped for the best.
Yup, I'm with you on the whole Corner Gas/Little Mosque debate, angrycrustacean... Little Mosque started out as kind of funny in a "I don't know if I should be laughing at this" kind of way, but I'd say all the shine is gone now. Corner Gas has better writing, a better cast, and isn't dependent on 'shocking' people into watching.
As for Rick Mercer, well... you can't trust a man that can talk the PM into stupid bits that consist of him pretending to read a bedtime story to Mercer (
not to mention, skinny dipping with Bob Ray.... *shudder!*)... I'd say the funniest he ever was, was with 22 Minutes, although I think Mary Walsh kind of owned that show. It's been so long since I watched it, I can't remember - was it Walsh that used to dress up like Xena and bombard the politicians on Parliament Hill?

Now THAT was funny!
I WAS really impressed with The Hour - for a couple of months. Then it started to look like a cleverly (
or not-so-cleverly, depending on which side of the debate you're on) disguised platform for various government types to air their greivances or 'achievements'. That Belinda Stronach interview almost made me throw something at the tv...

Of course, in my opinion, the CBC has almost never done anything good, with the obvious exception of Hockey Night...
