1. If I were going to an unknown planet I would wonder what I had done to deserve that sort of Gulag treatment.

2. I would take several guns with me but not for the reason you think.
A shotgun would make a most excellent propulsion system if the gravity were just right. So, I would bring a lot of different guns. Maybe I only need to jump a few dozen feet-so I shoot the wee little .380...I'm out.

Guns? If you are on an unknown planet you would have bigger problems than guns. That planet does not even have to resemble earth in any way. Imagine that life there is sulfur based instead of carbon based (happens right here on earth).. then it would be impossible for you to feed of it. So the best gun is of no use. The predators on that planet probably could not care less about you if you leave them alone. So the gun is additional dead weight. That leaves the unlikely event that you find intelligent life that recognizes what you are. And sorry, for that small possibility I rather carry two pounds more of food instead of a gun.
