Hi Transform:

Interesting question. I believe that shamans are knowledgeable about high level magick, and also either by the use of hallucinogense or not, I believe they are able to enter other realms and can communicate with deceased people. I feel they have developed heightened psychic abilities. I don't believe they can summon Jesus back because there is noone that controls Jesus.

I read in a paper a few years ago information about Shamanism, and there are some people who believe that alien encounters are a type of shamanic initiation and and even yogi's in India believe that in some of these encounters, they are experiencing "Samadhi" which is Cosmic consciousness, of which there is said to be various levels. It is a state of true yoga where the meditator and object of meditation are one. It is said that samadhi brings a complete transformation of consciousness.

I really would like to read more books about Shamanism.

Shamanism is similar to Druidism in the fact that they both revolve highly around nature.

Necromancy is a "dark art" that could be compaired to satanism except where Satanism is more of a religion, Necromancy is more of just a mystic practice.

The myths of Shamans and Necromancers being able to ressurrect the dead came from word of mouth because in both arts communication with the dead is common as well as "possession" by the deceased.

So to answer your question, no, they couldn't because ressurrection is just a myth (a myth now because of scientific advances in medicine that dispprove "zombies" or comming back fromt he dead)

This is interesting. For years I was under the impression that necromancy wasn't bringing spirits of the dead back, but rather "opening gates" and "releasing spirits" that have never walked this earth in human form. (Many refer to these as demons.) It's interesting to know that I was misinformed all these years.

You are right, the only reason Necromancy is now associated with bringing the dead back to life is because of the computer game Diablo II, and maybe a few more before then, not sure.
But again, it's all myth and "mind over matter" if they have gotten a "demon" through any gates of anykind.
A person's mind can make them believe anything if they wanted it to and let it.

Shamans are real. From what I've heard, they're used to heal sickness. Back in they where "popular" among Native American tribes. That's what I heard. ^^;

As for them to bring back the dead. I'm not sure really.

And I have no clue what necromacy is.

I have always thought Necromancy to be a childish fantasy for D&D geeks. (I could be wrong. whistling2.gif)

The term "shaman" IIRC refers to the "clergy" of animistic religions of Siberia, though it has become a catch-all phrase for many practitioners of animistic beliefs. The title is very much real, but the alleged powers are exaggerated. Shaman are said to travel between our world and the realm of the spirits via altered states of consciousness (we don't really need to go into too much detail on what that entails wink2.gif ).

Since we don't have random encounters with walking corpses, I'd say that Necromancy is a crock.
Sublime
I've had plenty of out of body experiences, and some but not as many lucid dreams as well as experimented with astral travel. While I can assure you all that it is possible to do these things, I don't know if they are connected to spirits or anything (or whether it's all in your head).

I believe that death brings us into another state of consciousness where we create a "heaven" or "hell" based on our life experiences.

Maybe these activities, and other ones practiced by shamans, are really a glimpse into the afterlife.
I have yet to find anyone that I know who will try interacting in the "astral realm" but if it's possible to share dreams, maybe that is how you see dead loved ones in the afterlife...

Necromancy is not bringing the dead back to life, it is communicating with the dead to gain information or insight. and do Shaman really exist? Yes, shamans are spiritual healers in some religions and parts of the world.
