What came first? The chicken or the egg?

An age old question that has been lost in the realms of obscurity. Forgotten. Ridiculed. Unsolved.

Ever since the seed of logic was planted into our brains, the essence of this inquiry has grown into a beautiful, but twisted garden of beliefs and truth. Are we cursed to forever repeat history until we find an answer? We reset trends, music, and movies and through the books we create, we even rewrite history. We have come so far only to forget where we come from; a soldier on the battlefield trying to recall his mission.

“If one doesn’t learn from his mistakes, he is destined for tragedy.”

I do believe we are the jailers of our own imprisonment, holding the key to our future in our past. The answer lies within us. It lies within our minds, our DNA, and our souls. Bits and pieces scattered about through all of humanity.

So, I was wondering, what are some of your thoughts on where we come from, where we are headed and why?

That’s a long question, but the best answers are usually simple. Feel free to lay down your thoughts relentlessly.

Personally I agree with the theory of eternity and so see the chicken and egg as one and the same thing. Creation and creator pervade one another and ultimately there is no distinction, infact one cannot be without the other as this argument implies. The universe has always been existing in some way or form at all times. You can't go back to the moment of when it was first created because then it wouldn't be eternal. There was no beginning and there will be no end just changes to the way that it is.

IMO the chicken would be first for all the process it must go through.it is a very complex process everything must be perfect for the egg to produce a chicken. ex. it takes 21 days of rotation every little bit it must be moved it cannot lay still very long the egg must also maintain a tempture of 100 degress f ,if it loses any degree it will not survive.if the egg is not fertlized it will not produce a chicken.it takes male and female without both it no go..so with this in mind it would be the chicken came first to produce the egg.

there is nothing new under the sun everything seems to have a way of repeating itself.just in a different fashion .

agree with learning from our mistakes .if we repeat them it is a targedy.

its very hard to know it
its better for me to listen and see all result

Evolution

In the context of evolution, the egg would have come first. Today's species of chickens would have been conceived through a similar species. Whatever species of bird that gave rise to chickens would have started it all. Therefore, you would have to follow the evolutionary path of chickens, to realize that the egg would have come first.

I was going to say chicken but what scorpius said makes sense. Now im thinking egg.

chicken or the egg? well;

The egg, due to the fact that either two seperate birds not of the same type bred and gave birth to the chicken. OR that egg had a slight fault producing the chicken we know today.

i go with the egg woke up to its chicken self, there is only the moment of now, brave all that is, was, will be, wasn't, is, could, should, would is all happening right now.. ... now-here ......eternal infers static, sameness IMO, change is the only constant IMO.... Seems as if there should be something after eternal Brave...

I read this thread and then thought "hm done my brain in now, I need a cigarette" - I trotted off to the living room where the TV was on, in my mind I was thinking "chicken, egg, egg, chicken..." suddenly a woman on a drama programme was typing and the first line she said was "I must go and get my EGG salad sandwich!" - now that cracked me up (excuse the pun) lol
