"We bought thong underwear at two Victoria's Secret stores, and at Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomindale's... Every store took back our thongs without the tags, never asking if they'd been worn. Next our hidden camera caught the sales clerk at a Victoria's Secret attaching a new price tag on our returned thong, hanging it up and then putting it back on the floor for sale... Microbiologist Dr. Lori Daane says dangerous bacteria like yeast and E. coli can survive for weeks on lingerie and can be easily transferred. 'Given the fact that you can get these organisms on this clothing, especially thong underwear, it's pretty likely you're going to get some fecal contamination.'"

I found this article and thought I would share!!!

I'm not shopping at Victoria's Secret anymore!!! scared.gif

ewwww!!!
That's gross. Doesn't suprise me tho. I bought a bathing suit from Sportmart, and the store said, even if I did not pull the tag off I could not return it. my friend bought trunks at the same store and they let her return the ones she did not want. I guess it depends who you are, and who you get.

All I have to say, is, there loads of sick perverted men out there, that would probably buy these used underwear, so they don’t have to put them back on the shelve, lol, just joking… but there probably are! tongue.gif

Of course, this doesn’t in anyway represent my sexual perversities? huh.gif

Ah, while we have you ladies here, I have a question for you, why are the men kicked out of Ann Summer parties? whistling2.gif

I think this is totally unfair to single out Victoria's Secret in this! TONS - practically every retailer has to return merchandise like this. They are not damaged so why put them in that department?

First, of all you all would be raising hell if you had your reciept and wanted to return panties and they wouldn't take them back! Trust me I work at the service desk. I know how the public is! Some people would be offended if you asked if they were worn and if they had washed them before returning them! "Well of course I didn't wear them how dare you assume..."

Second, if you don't have enough brains about you to wash them before you wear them or try them on on top of your existing underwear then you probally shouldn't be purchasing them at all.

Third, I don't blame them a bit for putting them back on the shelf (I am not saying it isn't disgusting). Just because a company has a policy in order to please a customer does not mean that they don't loose money on it!

And may I add that these items are the most disgusting thing to handle - but we are not allowed to have gloves considering that we can't prove they have been worn!

That is disgusting, but it doesn't shock me either. I wash all clothing before I will wear it after purchasing. You just never know who took it to the dressing room before you got it. blink.gif lol

Anirbas
oh my gosh it's another Sabrina! nice to meet you!....we embarass the customer - we take a pencil and usually hold it far out from our body and touch it as little as possible!
Lady Sabrina

In the latest act of sanitizing New York's mean streets, lawmakers want to rid the city of a scourge most people are not even aware of -- previously worn lingerie being sold as new merchandise.

Council members are mulling the proposed legislation after watching a local television news broadcast which claimed leading department stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy's, had tried to resell returned undergarments.

Under current law, stores do not have to state whether undergarments on sale, including women's panties and thongs, have been bought and returned, although certain stores have developed their own policies.

"This is a major consumer and health issue in that the amount of bacteria that can be transported from one person to another in just one wearing can be a health hazard," said council member Tony Avella.

"When you talk about it people start to giggle as it is a tough subject to discuss."

Spokeswoman Elina Kazan said Macy's does not sell worn undergarments and posts signs in changing rooms that intimate apparel should not be tried on for size on top of bare skin.

"We train our associates to inspect the merchandise upon return and if in salable condition, return it to the sales floor," she said. "Any items that are soiled ... are not returned to the floor."

The council plans further discussions to decide if the bill should exclude brassieres, undershirts, socks and bathing suits, before being put to a council vote later this year.

Saks did not return calls for comment.

Donald Halperin of the New York Metropolitan Retailers Association said the issue was mainly about women's undergarments because women care more about such issues more than men.

The actions of ONE store do not represent the whole company.

At one McDonalds, a spotty little teen brat may drop the burger, pick it up, dust it off and stick it on the bun. This doesn't mean that ALL McDonalds restaurants have the same spotty little brat doing the same thing.

I bet TONS of stores do this.
Janiel
the mcdonals in my town doesnt wipe their floors, there is also a ice cream place here, and when they drop their ice cream they pick it up and put in om their ice cream sandwaches... crying.gif
BurnSide
Yeah, pretty much the same here, there's several cause it's a city of course, but the worst one in the west end is so terrible they're getting rats and sh**.

This happens at The Gap as well when I was in the US recently. I bought some knickers from there got home and I found a rip in one pair. Took it back and they did not even ask if I had worn them, I hadn't but I was really suprised they did that.

My friend used to work at Pier 1, and people would return dishes...that they didn't clean.
And she had to take them back cause it was store policy.
