Lord Umbarger
This is just another dumb question from your local Lord Umbarger. I realize that I might should have posted this as a poll but, I'm not doing a survey. I was just kind of curious.

Personally, I don't carry my side arm at all times, although I am legally allowed to do so. (I posess a Georgia issued CCW permit). I do carry pepper spray with me, even around the yard and on trips to the grocery store. During my stint as a detention officer I found out first hand just how effective a pepper spray weapon can be! (In Georgia, you have to be sprayed with O/C Pepper Spray as part of your certification).

As a matter of fact, I carry pepper spray rather I've got my side arm with me or not. It really is that good. Contact me for details as to what you should look for in the way of chemical personal protection.

I would like those who reply to cut and paste the following with their own answers. Feel free to add a comment at the end of the list of questions that follow.

Now, for the big questions:

1). Do you own any fire arms? Yes, a few.

2). If yes, what do you own? one single shot 12 gauge shot gun, one pump 12 gauge shot gun, one .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle, one lever action 30/30 rifle, one 22/45 mkIII semi-automatic ruger pistol, one .32 caliber revolver.
2b).My wife owns two pistols

3). Why that one/those?
The single shot 12 gauge was my grandfathers. He acquired it before my father was born.
The 12 gauge pump shot gun? O.K., I was a rube, I bought into that Y2K thing.
.22 caliber semi-automatic rifle? My Dad bought it for me when I was 8 years old.
30/30 lever action rifle? My Dad bought it for me when I was 9 years old.
22/45 mkIII pistol? Because I grew up with long guns and had never realy had a lot of practice with pistols. Deny a boy something and he'll become a fanatic.
.32 caliber revolver? My great aunt was married to a former peace officer. It is from a time when officers had to provide their own weapons. He kept it, she kept it, now it is mine. It is from around the turn of the century.

4). Do you carry a fire arm with you when you are out of the house? (I'm assuming that you are legally allowed to do so. If not, please contact your local government as to if/how you can do so leaglly). Hey, I don't want you to go to jail!!!
Sometimes. Not often. I know that many people are a little nervous around "guns".

5). If you do carry one, why/when?
If I'm wearing it, I don't take it off in the parking lot just to go into a store but, I don't put it on just because it's morning. I wear it like I'd wear my pepper spray or carry my pocket knife. I think of it the same way I think of a hankerchef adn pocket change. It's some that a person could find useful, from time to time.

6). Do you consider youself a hunter?
No. I don't too much hunt. I'm not against hunting or anything though. I'd personally rather set up a target, measure off a distance and then shoot. That way I have more of an idea of how accurate I am.

7). If you are against private firearms ownership, why? If you are in favor of private firearms ownership, why? (I might question your opinion but, I promise that I won't hammer you).

I would actually like to know why you feel the way that you do. Well, I guess that I've sort of given away how I feel about private fire arms ownership but, I'd still like to know what you think and why you feel that way.

I currently do not own any firearms but I will end up getting one someday. I will just get one gun...I don't know much about guns but I will just get a 9mm handgun and thats it. I will probably never carry it or even use it though.

I live in the city so it's better safe then sorry. Right now If I'm going into a dangerous neighborhood or am out late at night I may carry my handy dandy knife with me. But most of the time I don't carry any weapon and if the opportunity should arise that I would need to defend myself I do one of two things...find a big rock/brick or run really fast.

1. Yes i Have guns
2. I personally own right now only 4, I am inheriting maybe 30? I own a 45 and 50 cal muzzle loader, I own my grampas old iver and johnson single shot 12 guage, its a bear to shoot, and i own a WWII russian mosin nagant, model 44, very fun to shoot. I will be inheriting a M1 garand, 2 M1 carbines, one of which has a folding stock (paratrooper), a civilian model of a M14 (a fav of mine), a springfield from WW1, a bunch of shotguns, a bunch of pistols (44 mag, 9mm) and a couple of 22s

OK, I'll answer these. Just for Umbarger.

1). Do you own any fire arms? Yes.

2). If yes, what do you own? A pair of .22s, a St. Louis Hawken and an 1847 Colt revolver, both muzzleloaders (and so not actually legally firearms).

3). Why that one/those? .22s because they are light, perfect target shooters, perfect survival rifles. Black powder because they are fun.

4). Do you carry a fire arm with you when you are out of the house? never

5). If you do carry one, why/when? n/a

6). Do you consider youself a hunter? Was, once.

7). If you are against private firearms ownership, why? Not. I'm all for gun ownership.

1). Do you own any fire arms?Yes...

2). If yes, what do you own? MP5, Colt 45, AR-15, M4 carbine, Ak47

3). Why that one/those? Because they kill much faster, better for close quarter combat, higher rate of fire then the guy shooting back at you.

4). Do you carry a fire arm with you when you are out of the house? Yes, always on me. I drive with it in my glove compartment.

5). If you do carry one, why/when? Because I have been shot, on numerous occasions, Houston Texas has a high crime murder rate...can say that I have lost more than 15 friends due to murders. seen 2 of my friends shot in the head.. one in galveston during Mardi Gra at point blank range.

6). Do you consider youself a hunter? Yes, I also believe in respecting nature and taking only what is I want and not more. Sportsmanship is crucial, and the hunted game always deserves a fair chance. Hunt honorably.

7). If you are against private firearms ownership, why? No, I am not against private weapons. I believe that it is good to practice gun control, and good to be able to carry and gun if you have a license to. Reason being is that you are able to respond to people in danger. If I saw someone being robbed, I will intervene. If my life or anyone's life feels threatend, I have to right to shoot. If I warn someone not come within 25 feet of me or anyone else once they are life threatening or deadly force.... I will shoot. grin2.gif

my guns were stolen from me by the secret service...or US gestapo I like to call them...

In the UK we're not allowed guns or knives, however, lateley there have been quite a few reports of shootings, between gangs.

Trouble is most of these kids think they are gangsters and carry on as such, 15 year olds getting shot - waste of life and their lifestyle is a waste of time.

When I was about 17 I remember mentioning to my boyfriend about carrying a knife for protection when out late at night, his answer was "what are you going to do if they get the knife off you and use it against you", that frightened me and I never did carry any knife lol.
RougeRat
I don't have a gun but I plan to get one. Whats the saying...it's better to have a gun when you don't need it instead of not having a gun when you do need it. SOmething like that.

1). Do you own any fire arms? A 9mm Berreta fs-c (special Italian imported model for concealment), 30-06 with 4x scope, several 12 guage shotguns (Remington 870 auto)

3). Why that one/those? I chose the Berreta because of reliability, handling and small size for concealment. It holds 13+1 round in the chamber.

4). Do you carry a fire arm with you when you are out of the house? Not all the time, depends.

5). If you do carry one, why/when? When I'm working and in a tough neighborhood
6). Do you consider youself a hunter? Duck hunter, deer, wild boar, pheasant and quail

7). In favor of gun rights...and support training programs.

Last time I checked, the "bad guys" didn't apply for CCW's or even register there stolen weapons. Violent crime has skyrocket in the past few years, and one should never feel the police will be there for protection.

1). Do you own any fire arms? Sure do

2). If yes, what do you own? Sig Sauer 2022, Bersa .45, Mossberg 12 gauge, and am planning on buying a nice rifle in the near future.

3). Why that one/those? The Bersa is compact and makes a good backup, 12 gauge - well, best up close and personal original.gif

4). Do you carry a fire arm with you when you are out of the house? Sometimes. I have CCW but live in a fairly safe area.

5). If you do carry one, why/when? I usually keep mine in a lockbox either in the house, in my trunk, or the safe at work. I don't really feel the need to carry it, but like to have one nearby just in case of a large scale disaster or something similar that can cause widespread panic.

6). Do you consider youself a hunter? No, but I do know how to.

7). If you are against private firearms ownership, why? I think everyone who can legally own a gun should, and I believe that CCW should be national policy.

6). Do you consider youself a hunter? No - Although I know how to hunt/clean/cook well enough.

7). If you are in favor of private firearms ownership, why? Mostly for self defense nowadays but it's always nice to know the NRA-type-folks are out there with the likes of the Clintons in power.
