i am an athiest indeed and if i ever tell that to my friends they make fun of me and call me "devil worshiper" and "Satan" etc. Athiests dont live in a Satanic lifestyle its just that they dont believe in God. I think that people who have beliefs dislike me and others because 9/10 of the world actually has a religion they believe in.

They probably feel you take them out of their safe world, they hit out at you and try to make you feel inferior.

If you live your life how you wish without hurting others, who the hell are they to judge you. Religious and paranormal subjects are not for everyone, unfortunately there are those that seem intent on converting you (they have some notion they are saving you in a round about way) many of them are so fanatical about their own beliefs they forget everyone is not the same lol.

The thing I have found about these people is that rather than make me turn towards them they push me further away because I take one look at them and think "good grief, there is no way I want to be like that" - it is enough, sometimes to make you want to turn to crime!!

thank you lol

Athiests don't worship Satan? Jeez... where've I been the past 3500 years...

How old are you? Your friends seem pretty immature. I noticed that when I was an athiest most of my friends either didn't care or were also athiest. The ones who were religious didn't call me devil worshipper or anything, so... I dunno. And Lotus, I couldn't agree more! I think people get so wrapped up in their own righteousness that they forget their purpose.

I don't believe you need cleave to a god philosophy in order to be a good person, have a healthy sense of morality, self-respect, personal integrity or honor. Hold to what feels right inside yourself because you have no one to answer to, but that, first. Friends, sincere friends, love who you are. Be it Atheist or Theist. Those that judge you, make fun, etc... are actually making fun of you and your life, through the judgments levied from their own perspective that your living as an Atheist is somehow not approved, or is laughable. True friends don't do that. At the end of the day, we all have to live with who we really are.

In response tell them that devil worshipping is only in the minds of those who concocted the idea of a devil and those who wish to blame their own trangressions on someone other than himself, and that you fit neither of those molds. Then tell them to get a grip on reality.

Because most atheists talk to believers like their stupid for having faith in a higher being, Or calling religion mass brainwashing which is a huge load o bull, And as for you not believing in god i guess you'll find out if there is one when you die just like the rest of us.

Well...Atheist tend to talk to religious people like they are dumb because religious people are constantly telling them that they better believe in some giant guy in the sky or they are going to burn in hell and suffer eternal pain.

It's a vicious cycle.

Consider that knowledge, understanding, acceptance and alligiance to a 'higher' being, cause or creator can and does exist without allegiance to any religion.

You can believe in a creator and not be a part of any religion - I do. I am no longer critical of the atheist mind as I was when I was religious. Now that I am 'free' of religion I can see this life in an objective way. I am now intrigued by the arguments atheist put forward in support of their 'beliefs'. And almost evey atheist argument I'vei heard has the ironic effect of further enhancing my understanding that there is in fact a creative designer of what we know and are.

When someone disrespects you like that, you'd be better off not hanging around them. That just shows their ignorance, and unintelligence. It also supports my idea of religious brain washing. They can't even accept someone of a different belief, because they're constantly being told that Christianity is the "truth", and that every other philosopy/belief is "wrong" or "evil". It's sad really.

Exactly my point! i try telling my friends that but they are all christians and shrug it off.

laugh.gif, nice one. Its true though. grin2.gif ^I say that that is the best idea^

Ive never really met some one who has said something against me because im atheist. Most of my friends are atheist though. I suppose the only time really is when i said that i was atheist and my teacher gave a bit of a look but that may just be me.
ND-DAVE
Your friends are showing personal ignorance not Christian ignorance. Could they perhaps be Mormon? Seems like more of an attitude I've gotten from them and hey, I'm Christian too! As I've said time and time again, Hypocrocy knows no bounds. And that goes out to both groups.

If you are going to have friends that are Christians then you all have to agree to disagree and if they do not then you find new friends. But I noticed in another thread you mentioned you like to challenge your pastor with questions. Do you attend church still being an atheist?

It is a vicious cycle, I'm not a religious person but i do believe in a higher being, And i would never tell somebody that their going to hell just because they don't believe in god because personally i think he's a little more forgiving than that , But having said that atheist's don't have the right to criticize religious people that go to church regularly by saying the bible is all lies or theirs no truth to any of it, Or that it's Just a good read but there's no substance to any of it

It would irritate me when I was a christian if people made fun of my religion to my face. It's not like I forced it upon everyone or even talked to people about it. It's really no ones business what I believe unless I choose to share that information and I don't care what otheres believe. Unless I am in a specific debate, making a point about something or something just seems really really "off" to me, then I leave religion a lone because it's rude to criticize people about it-especially if they said nothing to deserve such rude treatment. I definitely have my opinions about different religions(or namely people...fundies) and I talk about them openly on this forum much more than I would in real life. The thing is, this forum has a bunch of diversity to it where most put there beliefs out there almost expecting to have a comment about it. I still keep my mouth shut unless it's a debate though and I like when others have the same curtosy original.gif I feel others are free to criticize religion, however it's rude to directly tell a christian (for example) that their beliefs are fake when they are not asking to hear your opinion. Thats just my 2 cents tongue.gif

yeah i have to go to church, my parents make me for some stupid confirmation class

Exactly., It's fine if somebody has strong faith and goes to church all the time, But like i said i' not a very religious person and that's my choice, And even if i were i wouldn't sit back and say If you don't agree with my faith you're going to burn in hell!! Which is so stupid it's not even funny. The only gripe i have with atheists is lke i said before is that they critcize the whole christian religion as a lie or saying that the bibles fictional or just a god read which i find to be very offensive, But i've noticed alot of people on here are very narrow minded about alot of topics cryptzoologically speaking and they have this
attitude that if i haven't seen it or experienced it it doesn't exist and they expect science to explain everything and if it can't there fore it doesn't exist which isn't true, There are things in this world that surpass the laws of science or at the least push the boundaries, And the same thing goes for god they expect science to explain religion and you can't subject faith to science

Too true. There are things that I do find to be outright ridiculous, but I keep my mouth shut. I have had my share of what I would call "supernatural" experiences..or just things I cannot explain, so even though I am leaning more towards the possibility that God does not exist, I do, also realize that it is entirely possible for him to.
