Personally, I suffer from severe insomnia and night terrors/nightmares. The little sleep I do get is sometimes peaceful but last night... I got some sleep between I want to say 2am-5am. At first the dream seemed normal, from what I can remember, but near the end of the dream I remember looking down in my dream and there were a bunch of dogs at my feet. One in paticular looked like a hyena. They were kind of swarming me. It didn't seem scary but it physically woke me up out of a deep sleep, like dramatically. I woke up in a cold sweat and this first dream happened around 2:30am-3:30am. I tried going back to sleep but then the dog/hyena kept getting more ferocious. Waking me up almost like every half-hour from there on in the same way. The last dream around 5:30am really woke me up because it was mauling my right leg as I laid in my own bed, unlike the other dreams I was somewhere else. It really scared me because I seriously felt like something was really wrong so I checked the whole house, all the animals, later called all my family to see if they were all alright. Nobody, at least that I know, was harmed or in trouble... I live in Savannah, GA. One of the most haunted places in the US because of all the past slavery and what not...

FOCUS: Anybody have insight on this? Does it have any significance?

ADD: In the middle between the first dream and last, someone warned me about the number 3. When I woke up from that dream I looked over at my husband and he was holding 3 fingers out while he was sleeping. Not in a normal fashion either he was holding his index and thumb in, exposing middle, ring, and pinky finger.... O_o Very odd...

Hi,

The impression I get is that its a continuation of similar dreams that are disturbing for you. There does seem to be others in your dream. I get that from what you said about the number 3 and because you checked with your family later to see if they were ok.

I think the number 3 is normally an indicator a connection that is in harmony. In your case it refers to something else. Your husband was in the dream and the 3 is connected to him in some way. I would suggest you try and recall more detail from your next dream. You may even think back and get some insights from past dreams. Think of this as a project or a puzzle you want to solve.

I would also talk to your husband about his feelings after you have a similar dream. As you related about this past dream, it started out peaceful but then you ended up be frightenerd. If your husband has similar or different reactions it might give you some feelings about his role that would help.

In some cases dreams are a way of releasing tension by manifesting our fears in some way. That is the impression I get but its your point of view that would have greater insight. In our culture there are many things that create fearful concerns. So keep the number 3 in mind, talk to your husband, and think of this exercise as a fun like effort of discovery. I think that outlook will help.

Thanks John for your insight on this! grin2.gif I asked my husband, he said it's probably nothing, just another odd dream/nightmare. He says he normally doesn't dream or he can't remember them. Oh, and my husband wasn't in my dream, someone in my dream warned me about the number and when I woke up and looked over at my husband (who was sleeping) he was holding his hand the way I described. I thought that was an ood coincidence. Unfortunately, I didn't sleep last night... No sleep, no dreams... :sigh: Maybe next time, I'll keep ya updated! grin2.gif

Still no sleep, no dreams. But my family did call me early this morning asking if I was okay. Apparently the next day after I had this weird dream episode I called everyone to see if they were okay, it was later in the day after I called my family started experiencing strange things... Their cable had been out for a day or two and then the TV turns on by itself. Even if the cable had been turned back on, the TV wouldn't have turned on by itself because the TV is on a seperate control. From what my Dad told me it turned on by itself when he walked in the room. And then my parents told me that my Dad's alarm turned on without him setting it at 2:30am. Saturday, they came home to find broken glass from their new chandelier, but it was only one part of the chandelier and it was found pretty far from where it hangs. Like someone physically took off one of the ornaments walked a few feet away and dropped it...

have you tried going for a sleep study ?

night terrors are fairly common. I have them . they happen more so under stress. I even know why I have them but won't get into that except to say it is due to trama. ( which most night terrors are) I also have insomnia which I find can exasurebate night terrors.

the biggest problem in night terrors is your 'parayasis' mechinism isn't working properly. this happens for sleep walking as well.

me? I sit up , talk , scream ( if it's scary) , run , and have woken up in different parts of the house . Thankfully I don't have night terrors often and know the root more or less ( I know some of my triggers) sometimes I remember them , most times I don't.

Night Terrors Symptoms: Sudden awakening from sleep, persistent fear or terror that occurs at night, screaming, sweating, confusion, rapid heart rate, inability to explain what happened, usually no recall of "bad dreams" or nightmares, may have a vague sense of frightening images. Many people see spiders, snakes, animals or people in the room, are unable to fully awake, difficult to comfort, with no memory of the event on awakening the next day.

Night Terror or Nightmare?: Nightmares occur during the dream phase of sleep known as REM sleep. Most people enter the REM stage of sleep sometime after 90 minutes of sleep. The circumstances of the nightmare will frighten the sleeper, who usually will wake up with a vivid memory of a long movie-like dream. Night terrors, on the other hand, occur during a phase of deep non-REM sleep usually within an hour after the subject goes to bed. This is also known as stage 4. (A link to a sleep stages chart can be found on the navigation bar to the left) During a night terror, which may last anywhere from five to twenty minutes, the person is still asleep, although the sleepers eyes may be open. When the subject does wake up, they usually have no recollection of the episode other than a sense of fear. This, however, is not always the case. Quite a few people interviewed can remember portions of the night terror, and some remember the whole thing.

Mine usually contain spiders or someone in the room. once I screamed so loud at someone being in the room I woke up the neighbors (they called to make sure everything was alright)and woke myself up by falling out of the bed and hitting the floor. the last had a huge foot long mechanical spider swimming in the ceiling( I remember that spider). a friend stayed over said I got up , yelled , ran a few steps and fell ( the fall semi woke me) I remember turning on the light and looking for that damn spider and her trying to make me think about what I was looking for - a huge mechanical spider . aaahhh logic . lol. funny now but not so funny at the time.

Its my view that there is no such thing as a coincidence. Everything is some how connected. He knew about the number and another person warned you about it so I think there must be a connection. I have no idea what the 3 could mean or what the connection would be.

I didn't take a sleep study but I did go to my doctor for it. All they did was give me sleeping pills, unfortunately they only kept me asleep for half an hour at most or they wouldn't work at all some nights... I actually have a follow up exam pretty soon, so if they don't suggest it I'll ask about the sleep study. But yeah, I kept waking up sitting up already or half sitting up. I sleep with my eyes open every time I sleep, ever since I was young. My mom would always say, "Is she dead?" instead of "Is she sleeping?" A lot of people think its odd because it looks like I'm fully awake when I sleep. What bothered me about it was I never had a night terror/nightmare of an animal let alone a dog/hyena. The symbolism behind it made me think twice about it too... I usually have night terrors about zombies... tongue.gif

your dreams seem to carry the being attacked senerio. a sleep study wouldn't hurt.

also look up some ways of dealing with stress especially before sleep. meditation. journaling. exercise. anything to help lessen it. stress is more than what you feel having to finish before a dead line. we could be stressed and not realise it. not feel it if we arn't used to how our bodies feel without it.

Yeah, I did notice I had a lot more night terrors when I was in college (I took a year off to move and get everything settled here). But it's most likely the lack of sleep lately that caused this one... I've been less stressed but I can't get to sleep like I use to a few years ago... I still had trouble with sleeping but I never had this much trouble at least getting to sleep...

Join the club !!!! I can fall asleep but in 30 minutes I'm up. I can't stay asleep. really tired but can't. I get 2 or 3 hours a night ( between the hours of 6 am and 9) for about 3 or 4 days then I'll crash for a day where I'll sleep 9 hours. ( not straight through - nature calls). time for me to see the doc.
