I can not wear a watch or any battery opperated device on my body, including cell phones. I kill them. I also have to replace lightbulbs alot, especially ones I am in close contact with. Has anyone heard of this? I also cannot wear gold jewelry. I can write on myself with it just like a marker. Tell me what you think.

I think it's due to your body's magnetic field.

This is something I'm interested in as I have some similar issues (all the gals in my family do) I have some theories about what might be happening. However, would you mind if I asked if you're male or female? I'm assuming you're female but I thought I'd check.
Also, out of curiousity, if you're female, do you suffer any kind of anemia?

I am female and I don't suffer from anemia, my female cousin and my daughter can also draw on themselves with gold, but not the electrical issues. My side of the couch has an end table with a lamp, if I touch it it freaks out dimming and getting brighter than normal....other end table with lamp is not affected. It's the same with bedside lights too, my husbands is fine. We even switched to make sure it wasn't the light itself. It was fine that night but the next night it was doing the same thing. My daughter calls me a slider. I don't even know what that is.

Hmmm, I wondered because my sister, mother and myself all zap watches with great regularity. We're also static electricity power plants (shockingly fabulous! hahaha). All three of us also have minor allergies to nickel. As far as I know, I have no problems with lights and light bulbs--other than my house is old and my electrical outlets probably need to be replaced.
The one thing the theree of us have in common besides our basic obvious genetics is that we're also iron deficient.
Metals can do some weird things with people... I think that this is largely due to diet. For example, I have no problems with sterling silver, but some people have a real problem with it tarnishing the moment it comes into contact with their skin. It's believed that this is caused by high acid body chemistry (which makes sense because I actually have a very basal chemical make up) Gold in and of itself doesn't tarnish and shouldn't readily react to skin oils, however, most gold is not pure, it's mixed with other metal alloys and that could be part of what's going on. Do you notice a difference between say 10K and 22K. (although that's going to be difficult to determine becuase you won't often know which alloy is used in the making of the metal)?
As far as my watch zapping, I actually corrected the problem in a rather expensive way. I found that if I wear a really good jewelry quality watch, typically Swiss, they don't seem to flake out on me. The only lower cost watch I have that seems to run for about 4 months at a time is an ESQ brand made by Movado, they run roughly $200. My much higher quality Baume & Mercier will run for about 6-8 months at a time before needing a battery change.
Also keep in mind when you buy a watch, the manufacture puts a 1/4 charged battery in it at the factory, so when it fails a few days or weeks after purchase, that's totally normal and it happens to everyone. It reduces the watcheries production costs. When I have my own batteries replaced, I have a long time watch repair gent do that swap, he uses only the highest quality batteries available that are as fresh as he can obtain (unlike most jewelry stores) and they definitely work better.
I find that I have some issues with cell phones as well. Razors are the worst, zappy, bye bye. I have a Samsung that's a little heaftier that I can keep charged for about 7 hours before it fails. It doesn't seem to matter if the battery is new or not.
I find it very interesting that these electrical and metal problems seem to be something that affects women almost exclusively. I don't think i've run into a man with these kinds of problems yet. It could very well be hormonal as well. There is the old phenomanon that women who live together will eventually start to cycle together as well. There has to be something going on there that's external, hormonal, or electrical.

I can also wear sterling silver just fine. I have written on myself with lots of peoples jewelry over the years. That's my favorite "hidden talent" I have also replaced my share of watch batteries most just lasting a day or two. As for my cell phone, I don't just run the battery down, I kill the phone and have to replace it. Now I try to keep it away from my body when I'm not on it, and I just gave up wearing a watch.

So, for all of you who are afflicted with SLI, try hypnosis, whether self-hypnosis, or the traditional method. In fact, anything that puts you in a relaxed trance will probably help, whether it's meditation, yoga, or even simply taking ten deep breaths when you get stressed out.
My mother teaches transendental meditation and has run a yoga studio and has for 40 years. This doesn't change the fact that she still zapps, and the frequency and regularity doesn't change. What does seem to work is using higher quality products with some heaft and better sheilding.
I REALLY REALLY think it's biological... it's not that I'm a skeptic (ok, I am a little bit)... I just can't believe it's any kind of psychic phenomenon.

I don't think it's any kind of psychic phenomenon either just curious if there were other people out there experiencing the same kinds of things and maybe what exactly the biological part is.

The cell phone thing isn't surprising.. I actually destroyed a Razor phone in the same way. Cell phones have all those small little circuit boards in them which a VERY sensitive to electricity and magnets. I work in the computer industry, it's death to a computer if I open it up and attempt to work on it without a grounding strap--if I'm using a ground strap it's never a problem. Give me 10 motherboards and I can screw up about 4 of them by just touching them. We tested this at work and sure enough DOA... it's not a good scientific test obviously, but we knew that all 10 worked before I touched em.. when we went back to see if any failed afterward, 4 of the 10 were dead.
I'm really good at killing certain watch brands... Seiko being my favorite. Those stay working for 2 days tops and they weren't necessarily cheap either. Guess and Fossil are another example: those might go for 3-4 days.
I don't know what causes it, but it might be interesting to know that while not all women I've come into contact with are iron deficient a good majority seem to be iron poor OR they've only suffered the problem when they were pregnant, which is also interesting. Almost all of us Shocking Gals also seem to have problems with one type of metal or another too. I've heard people say that they have issues with Gold too. Several right here on UM.

Your a slider then. I'm not around alot of street lights so I haven't noticed that, but my outside security light acted so weird I just disabled it.

I saw this thread and some others like it before I registered, and I wanted to say I've had so many of these same problems. Is there a reason why this happens? I don't think I've been bitten by any radioactive electric eels.

This happens to me too much for it to be coincidence. Street lights go out when I look at them or as soon as I pass under them while walking. It happens with all different kinds of lights APART from the orange sodium ones which apparently "cycle" (i.e go off and on intermittently for a periods of minutes) when they get old. I have never witnessed this.
Tonight I left my flat for a walk. A few minutes into the journey I think about going back to get my jacket so I turn around. But i decide it's warm enough, so I turn back and the first streetlight in front of me goes off - as soon as I turn around. I walk 50 yards or so down the street and turn to see it has come back on again. 10-15 minutes later on my way back to my flat I look to the same streetlight and lo and behold, it turns off when I'm directly beneath it. I also notice this particular streetlight, although identical to all the other lights, had a blue aura, as opposed to the orange aura (i'm not talking about the actual colour of the light - just the colour around the bulb)of all the others (dunno if that is significant, but it struck me as odd).
However, this is not an unusual occurence for me. Over the last few months it has happened pretty much every night that I am out walking. The times it happens is when I am not consciously thinking about the streetlights. I am thinking about something else and suddenly the streetlight above me will go out or my distracted gaze will fall upon a streetlight and it just burns out, before I have time to think about it.
I have a feeling it is something paranormal, some force or entity that is trying to tell me something. Maybe to wake up and stop daydreaming. Or maybe it's a way to let me know there's more out there. Or something to do with karma or synchronicity. It's all guesses. Maybe I'm delusional and my life is so void of excitement that I pay way too much attention to streetlights. In any case, it happens too frequently to be mere coincidence, and no matter what the cause it always makes me happy.
I definitely don't support the physiological hypothesis that it is "electrical interference". It doesn't make sense. Especially considering the relative infrequency of the "interference". If it was biological, surely it would happen to all streetlights the "slider" passed by. And often streetlights that are over 50 meters away will go off but the one I am right next to doesn't even flicker.

my wife turns off street lights also...sometimes they will go dim also...she fries me a lot especially in cold weather...her body temp seems much warmer than others around and she has incredible hot flashes...like a burst of internal energy...she complains sometimes that food and drinks taste like metal...does any of this sound familiar?...i was not able to wear a wrist watch for many years until i got one that was anti static and anti magnetic...

That's a really anoying problem. I know, I had one simmilar. Although in my case I know what caused it. The symptoms weren't as extreme as the ones you described, but I couldn't wear anything made of any kind of metal on the left side of my body. My stainless steel watch after a few days of wearing it would leave a quater sized "burn" on my wrist. The same with a large silver ring I had. These "burns" looked like the type you would get if you were exposed to some caustic chemical. I even tried to wash my stuff and it didn't work. I later found out that people who get electricuted or exposed to high voltage fields in some way, sometimes have this happen. Your body can become re-polarized so to speak. Or maybe "charged or ionized" is more accurate. A few days before this started I was working on restoring an old Transverter generator. A transverter is nothing more than a high voltage DC generator that's powered by a 120 volt AC motor. I had the power off to the field windings so I could spool up the armature which would allow me to clean the commutator. I was using some emery cloth applied to a long peice of wood to polish off the tarnish on the commutator. I am not sure how it happened, but I was blasted off my feet by a two foot bolt of electricity, that seemed to emerge from the area around the rotating armature. That really hurt. Anyway, I had to wear a leather watch band if I wanted to wear a watch. This effect lasted for a few years, before it stopped. Electricity can do some strange things.
Good Journey.

I also can't wear metals, my skin bubbles. I can't eat with silver utensils, the food tastes metallicy (is that a word) and I almost get a shock from them. Lights go out when I walk down a street, cannot wear watches, do not hold the remotes, otherwise I will be changing batteries constantly. I even bought windup watch, and it would stop. After I took it off and left it on the counter, it would start up again. I have a cordless mouse that I change the batteries almost every week. It's rather frustrating. My mother had the same thing, but she now can wear a watch without killing it since she went through the change of life. So, it is possible it is hormonal. I have no idea what it is, just friggin' frustrating.

I know this isn't the same thing but the theme is right, It seemed to be a hormonal woman issue. When I was young adult especially first married, around my menses mostly, I broke alot of glass just by touching it. They would fall apart. My grandmother had simular issues around the menses time but I can't remember what, I just know it was mentioned back then. It seemed after having my kids it all balanced out, no more breaking of the glass. My friend has the problem with watches and stuff like that, they die on her fast or go screwy, she can't wear them. She doesn't seem to have a problem with her cell phone though.
