Well the way Wales have played so far that might not be to far fetched! And who knows, perhaps Ireland will slip up against Italy and the same with France when they play Scotland on saturday, maybe far fetched but still possible. I live in hope. rolleyes.gif

In previous years I would have said it was a dead cert that Ireland would win, they will run in a dozen tries against Italy and finish top. This year it is not so simple, Italy have been very good, beating Scotland and Wales. Whilst I suspect that Ireland will be victorious inRome I can not see them getting a huge number of points.

France are, as always, unpredictable. If the "good" France team turns up they will thrash Scotland and be 6 Nations champions once again. If the shambles that turned up last week play they run the risk of losing or only scrapping a win against Scotland.

Even though the current Wales team are poor in the extreme, my beloved England team are just not good enough yet to destroy them. Wales are just one defeat away from the wooded spoon and so, if there is any pride left in pulling on the red shirt, I expect them to fight to the bitter end. Don't be surprised to see a Welsh victory, they always find something extra when the opposition is England.

It is a very close call between France and Ireland. Ireland have, again, not quite achieved their full potential and I suspect we will see them just pipped to the post by France.

If England finish in third place on points difference I will be happy. Given how bad they have been since winning the World Cup I am convinced they are finally moving in the right direction. The worry is, does Brian Aston have enough time to undo all the haem caused by Andy Robinson before defending the Webb-Ellis Cup.

That would be the Irishman Shane Gerraghty, born in the great Irish city of Coventry and Irishman Toby Flood born in Morpeth in the Irish county of Northumberland would it? grin2.gif

Ireland have got enough great players of their own at the moment, don't try and nick the ones born in England too.

Ah yes but both born to 1st Generation 100% Irish parents ....Gerraghty played for Ireland up to under 16 level but then declared for England .....His dad needs a good kick up the jacksy yes.gif
Also i'd say the Eddie O'Sullivan is wondering how they left him get away hmm.gif

Stii i s'pose we'll just have to make do with O'Gara .....he's okay i guess wink2.gif

Seriously though i hope England do well tomorrow .....I hope that the Croke Park game has started a new era of friendship between to two countries

A few years ago didn't you qualify for Ireland if you owned an Irish Setter or had ever had a pint of Guinness? original.gif You wouldn't find England playing non-English born players. After all we are being captained by that fine Englishman Mike Catt (what do you mean Port Elizabeth is in South Africa??? w00t.gif ).

He's certainly not too shabby. Brian O'Driscoll can play a bit too.

Even though I voted for France (the poll was "Who'll win?" not "who do you want to win"). I hope that Ireland finish ahead of them (with England re-writing the record books, destroying Wales (sorry Granddad) and becoming unlikely 6 Nations Champions). I will then go on to win the lottery. original.gif

I would say that the fact that Rugby is being played in Croke Park game PROVES there is a new era of friendship between the countries.

There does not seem to have been any real friction between the English and Irish in Rugby (could this be because it is an All Ireland team containing players from Ulster too?)

One thing I can be sure of, with Redden on the bench for Ireland, Ibanez captaining France and Payne, Palmer, Haskell, Rees and Worsley all in the England pack, at least one Wasps player is going to be a 6 Nations winner come Saturday night.

Well WD you're talking about Rugby i s'pose but the name John Barnes comes to mind for the Football team wink2.gif
Theres another few also but i cant think of them now .....In fairness though England shouldnt need players with dual nationality as you've got the largest Rugby Playing population...in the world. yes.gif
As for there being no friction between the two countries in Rugby ...I hate to split hairs but there would never have been in football either save for the lunatic England Yobbos who reaked havoc wherever they went.....The Irish football fans are welcomed wherever they go in the World....They just like to party.

Anyway it's all irrelevant now we lost the championship in Croke Park agains France 4 points up with 2 miniutes to go and we blew it......The games should also have been played at the same time hmm.gif
Anyhoo....I'd say Ireland would be worth a few quid for the World Cup...They'll be a big price and will be out to prove a point.,......

My mention of Mike Catt should have shown you how tongue in cheek my comments were, but I am prepared to see your John Barnes and raise you a large portion of the Irish Cricket team. There's a lot of Aussie accents there.

I can't argue that.

Not entirely true. Sadly there has been a few problems when the Republic and Northern Ireland have played footie.

I was gutted for the Irish.

I understand what you are saying about all the games being played at the same time (on the last day at least) however the TV companies are never going to allow that situation to return. Now the game is professional the Unions need the money so they will go along with what TV wants.
