I've heard of the Satanic Bible but never read it. What is it about, who wrote it,and where can I purchase a copy?

Google it.
But really, you've started a bunch of threads about Statanism... can I ask what your fascination is about since you've been given a lot of information already?
I thought I'd ask since I've never asked before.

written by anton levey founder of the church of satan. there is somewhere a downloadable copy, but i think you might be disappointed. it is more of a humanist religion, and teaches things like being nice to those who are nice to you, harming children is forbidden, and their idea of human sacrafice is- if you curse someone and it works, and they die as a result, then they have been "sacraficed". their is no actual devil, or god according to this book, man is his own god.

What Odd Christian said. It goes on to basically say the exact opposite of a lot of what the other big religeons say. It lists a set of "commandments" and a chapter or two that were, (Ahem), inspired by Satan. After that is a long, rambling, disertation about why humans believe that we are made in G-ds image and that since nobody has seen him he could just as easily look like a rabbit or a deer.
Bascially, it's a bunch of nonsence but, it did make him a lot of money. You can save yourself the time and/or money right now by refering to it as the "Satanic Babble".

Fair enough! I read the book and just thought the whole book and concept was pretty silly (I read it at a time when I had no religious beliefs). It was like the analogy I gave in your other thread... LaVey's system was like me going out and buying a bunch of rocking chairs for my house, then wasting a bunch of time and effort sawing off the rockers because I hate rocking chairs--I should have just bought chairs in the first place. That's really what Satanists do. They're Athiests, but they're sawing off the legs of Catholism (specifically--they practice a Black Mass that's a mockery of the Catholic Mass) when they could have Atheism alone with a lot less effort and the same end result and a lot less criticism. *shrug* They've got a schoolyard "neener neener neener" thing going on that's pretty childish.

Anton LaVey was no fool...long-winded maybe...but he realized that if you truly want to fight what you preceive as propaganda, you create your own propaganda and those who naturally oppose what you oppose will catch on and be interested in learning more.......kinda like the OP is. To bad the literature itself has little real substance.

It's the best book ever written!
My bible, man, and it has done nothing but good stuff for me. Christians can sit there and yammer on about it being evil, but they are viewing Satan under their own light and bias. The Satan that this book is refering to is an archetype, a sort of individualist creature as found in Milton's Paradise Lost. It isn't evil, we are most emphatically not devil worshipers, and you are not evil in being interested.
And by the way, a Black Mass is used rarely and is just a release or ridicule to anything that we find rediculous, as you would know if you had read it closely.
And you may purchase a copy at any reasonably sized bookstore. I personally prefer Barnes and Nobles, since they don't seem to have too much of a bias. Some college libraries will have it too.
I would also recommend the Satanic Rituals, the Satanic witch, Devils Notebook and Satan Speaks!
Also, if you look, there is the 2.0 Info pack online from the Church of Satan itself. Very good, very informative and it has all the basics. Just go to Google and Seach "satanism 2.0." It's a PDF, so you can take it with you.
And above all, question everything. Don;t take someone's opinion and run, look at it all objectively.

And Atheism is all well and good, but humans need a dogmatic release. We were built with the love of the unknown and powerful, so that is why we add our magic and such.
Why do I know that you have a love for the unknown? You're on this message board.
Thank you in advance for shutting up.

Funny, I'm a logical Christian and belong to an organized officially recognized denomination 300 years old that believes in zero creeds or dogma... I also believe and love the unknown... I don't quite fit your description. Atheists theoretically shouldn't have any use for dogma either. Huh.

Yep, I've read them all... long before I chose to be a person of faith. They just didn't impress me all that much. It's my personal opinion, they just didn't have much intellectual interest for me or said anything that was new or unique. My opinioin, take it or leave it. I rather think you'll leave it though, I'm hip on that. haha

I am a Satanist, but not yet a member of the Church of Satan, due to age requirements. Three months from now, that'll be a different story.
And by the way, I was a Christian for 15 years, until I really thought about it. I have read the Christian Bible front to back 8 times, and have read various peices and parts many more times than that. I know more about Christianity than probably about 90% of "Christians." And please, do you know what your religion actually entails? I disagree with a religion who found the murder of their god wonderful. Read Leviticus and Duteronomy and see how much you believe in. Are you ever greedy, envious? I have goaded you into angry responses by merely stating my religious preference, so I know that you can be angered. Ever heard of the 7 deadly sins?

Nope, I'm not angry nor will I give you an angry response. I have no problem with Atheists, for all I know they are right. *shrug* My only problem with Satanism is that it seems kind of silly, it's not evil, it's not even misguided really, it's Atheism... Unfortunately, it's Atheism with dogma and doctrine; what's the point? If you're going to be an Atheist, be one. If you want to worship yourself, fine, have at it, but why the dogma? Unless of course you are a non-believer that requires dogma, then I think that's rather weak. It's silly. It's not evil, it's just goofy I think.
If you'd like to educate me on why an Atheist needs doctrine and dogma, please, enlighten me, I really am all ears. (honestly, I am baiting you a little bit, there is a right answer to this question--one that won't make you mad. I'm just wondering if you can arrive at the answer in a clear way... and no, the answer does not include humans needing dogma or doctrine)

I have read a poorly copied .txt version of the Satanic Bible. I think it's good, but not much more worth paying for than The Gospel of the FSM (which I actually DID pay full price for, sadly!)
The "Dogma" in the Satanic Bible actually sounds more like common sense, which is needed to be a true representation of the religion anyway.
The "Magical" parts of the book, I'd rather not touch on right now. But they can NOT be considered "Dogma".

That is the best way I have ever heard it put...I was trying to think of a way to explain how I felt about "The Satanic Bible" when I read it years ago, but you put it best. BRAVO!
