Alienated Being
You don't necessarily need a "pendulum", however.. you should have some object suspended from a string in the air, while holding it from your finger tips. Basically, you say "Show me yes.." and the pendulum will sway left or right by itself. You then say "Show me no.." and it'll sway in the opposite direction of the "Yes" answer. It's kind of cool.. and I don't know whether it's a tool of the subconscious mind, or if it's really spirits using it to give you answers... either way, you should try it, and see what you get!! If you have, please tell me about what kind of crazy answers you got from it, or any experiences related to it.

Sorry, never heard of it. Try searching pendelum, pendulum, (people spell it a bunch of different ways) I found there was a few things out there.

Ahh... I've done it once or twice for fun. Old wive's tale says that it will determine the gender of your unborn child - straight line for a boy, circle for girl.

I think its all subconcious. You try to hold the thing as still as possible and think boy-boy-boy, it automatically goes in a straight line. Start thinking girl-girl-girl and it swings into a circle. Probably work the same way for the yes/no thing.

It's your hand responding to the expectations your mind has.

Explain this, then. I attached it to a chair, and waited until the object was suspended on a string... and waited until it was still. I then proceeded to ask questions, and it began swaying in different directions, which represented "Yes" or "No".

I have heard of this before, never done it myself though. It is impossible to keep your hand still while holding the pendulum so it will always waiver. I do not suggest trying to make any decisions off of the whims of a slightly shaking hand, not any major ones anyway laugh.gif . If I am not mistaken wigi boards work along the same principle. I would highly doubt that spirits in any form would be involved.

If you where near it when you spoke your breath could easily have upset it, that or a random draft. Try and place the pendulum in an enclosed envirnment away from any drafts (a glass tube would work well).

I doubt it - I was about two - three feet away from it, looking down upon it.

When exposed to a new phenomenon it is generally wise to apply Occam's razor to it. What is the simplest explanation for a pendulum swinging unassisted? An errant air current is blowing it around. Where does this wind come from? Your own mouth, an open widow or a near by vent are all possible. If you conduct an experiment which removes the air currents from the environment (conducting the experiment within a vacuum or simply a small area of dead air), and you still find the pendulum still swinging then you must consider the next likely cause. If wind is indeed not the cause then I would assume vibrations running through the ground from movement (a truck going by outside, someone in the house walking heavily perhaps) would run up the chair and cause the string to vibrate. To remove this you would have to conduct an experiment using sock absorbing material, and of course the same vacuum or area of dead air as before.

I assume you do not feel like going through all this effort though, so instead of being empirical let us use philosophy. Why would spirits toy with your pendulum? If spirits do exist (I am forced to give the existence of spirits some merit due to my own experiences) why would they spend the time and energy to move a piece of string around? I express doubt that they would amuse themselves in this way. Psychic ability might also be a cause, but once again doubtful, unless you have been experiencing psychic phenomena through out your life. In general, if you have not seen paranormal happenings occur in different areas of your life it is safe to assume that paranormal activity is not moving your string.

My parents don't own any rocking chairs, nobody walks THAT heavily in the house, and not only that... there wasn't an noticeable air current at the time. And I have had some forms of both psychic AND paranormal phenomena occur in my lifetime, to add.

well considering how small a pendulum would be it wouldn't take much air flow to disturb it, once again you may want to enclose it in a vacuum or a closed space with no air flow and see how it reacts. Make sure there are no vibrations aswell and then report back, you can't make something definitive with only one experiment, you have to try it over and over again and reach a logical conclusion.

I don't necessarily use a PENDULUM, I just attach a random object to a string, and it will move by itself. I once used the top of a magnifying glass and a bead necklace for it... and it moved by itself, hanging from a chair.

i have done it once
the idea is when i want to spin it to left or right it spins as I want to
hehe maybe it works in connection with thoughts

It's definitely your subconcious. The movement of the pendulum is due to very small autonomic movements within your hand. It's a technique that's been used by hypnotists and psychologists for years to communicate with the subconcious.

Try googling for autonomic pendulum subconscious for further information.

Yes that is correct.

I use a quartz crystal on a small chain. I can make it swing in a circle or just go back and forth. The mind sends out thought vibrations that the crystal will respond to. I also know others who use an approach like this to evaluate how balanced a person would be. I think they hold it in front of the heart and if it moves you are out of balance in some way. Everyone has a unique vibration and crystals are sensitive to this energy.

I have tried pendulum work before and found it to be usefull. If you don't take every answer you get as 100% fact.
As far as I know, this is how it's supposed to work. Acording to theory anyway. Pendulum's work much like a dowsing rod. A persons nervious system consists of many thousands of miles of nerves. These nerves can act like a large and very sensitive antenna array. All elements in the universe resonate at specific frequencies (on the molecular level) and the human nerveous system is supposedly capable of detecting these resonant frequecies. The subconcious mind does the rest of the work, interpreting what is being recieved and comparing that, with what is needed (what the operator of the dowsing rod or pendulum is seeking) and then outputs the answer through action. Your hand moves the rod or pendulum to indicate a direction or an answer.

That's how it's supposed to work, if the theory is correct that is. All I know, is that kind of stuff can be very fun. If you don't take it too seriously.

Good Journey

I've heard of using a crystal pendulum for dowsing. The difference is that the with dowsing rods both ley lines and water is picked up. The crystal pendulum picks up the ley lines and disrupted energy better, but not so much water. I know for a fact that dowsing is not just your hands moving unconsciously. The way my grandparents found the well for their cabin up north is they hired a proffesional dowser.

There is a place I visited in Virginia (I forget the name of it off hand) that the women uses kinesiology to get no/yes answers. For those that don't know, kinesiology is the testing of muscle strength. She would squeeze her fingers of one hand and use resistance to resist the squeeze. If there was movement, it would be a no as the resistance was not enough to resist the squeeze, if the muscles of the hand being squeezed successfully resisted the squeeze and there was no movement, it would mean a yes. I tried it on myself and got nothing (didn't notice any differences), but she has been doing it for years.

Anyway, here's the cool part, she planted all of these plants around her house by asking no/yes questions about what types of plants, what time of year, water schedules, where to plant ect. ect. and has had amazing results. Ideas that don't make sense to a gardner but she would do due to the questions she asked Nature and using kinesiology for answers would yield very good and often very surprising results. She now makes herbal medicines and other plant products the same way. This site should do an article about her if they haven't already. I will try to find out the name again. It was a very unique place.

I use the yes/no thing to find out what to use also. Inside the house the walls will pound to tell me, 1 is yes, 2 no and 3 is indifferent. It really helps in finding out the correct things to use as an offering.

Yes it is nearly impossible to keep a still hand, that is why this method is less effective than psychic readings. I highly doubt that it would work underneath a glass tube,( Unless you have studied TK). In order to make the pedelum work, you have to be touching it. This reason being, because the energy/electricity needs to flow into it. Even if I'm not asking Q&A it is still fun to move it with my mind! w00t.gif

The name of the place I was referring to three posts above is called Perelanda, here is a link to their website for those that might be interested. I guess it could be viewed as the American version of Findhorn in Scotland.

I have read your forum letters on Pendulum and dowsing. I have been able dowse for water, metal and gem stones. My mother is also a dowser and we are both quite successful at it. Recently, for the past year, I have started using a crystal pendulem. I have used this with great success. The pendulum moves in circles for a positive response, sways side to side for a maybe and hangs straight for a negative response. I do my pendulum dowsing in a closed room (no windows or doors open) and I make sure that I am not breathing on or near the pendulum. Have no distractions to disturb your concentration and focus on one question at a time. I have no idea how this works but it does. I never use this for any sort of gain and only for my personal use and guidance in life. I have also heard of people dowsing for spirits. I have never done this and don't believe in upsetting any spirits, good or bad. I have also heard of people dowsing for gold and I will like to try this one day for the experience. Don't close yourself of to the wonderful things in this world.
