Full Version: The Cleveland Torso Murders
Unexplained Mysteries Discussion Forums > News, Media & World Events > True Crime
The Question
Cleveland,Ohio,1934.Elliott Ness had put away Capone and moved to Cleveland as it's Safety Director. It was business as usual for the untouchable Ness. But
what isnt widely known is that there was one criminal, one sick & twisted individual whose action's were so licidious,so vile, that even the Ness himself, pulled out all the stops to catch him....and failed.it was the only crime, Ness couldnt solve.
It seems that while Whitechapel was still reeling from the events of Jack the Ripper 50 years earlier,an individual with the skill and gall to rival that of the Ripper himself, was loose on the streets of Cleveland.
The first body was washed up on the shores of Lake Erie, she was never identified. The second victim was found a year later in an area of Kingsbury Run known as Jackass hill, mutilated in a similar manner, and so on and so and so on.
The killer was right handed with a knowledge of the human anatomy to rival, once again, the Ripper.
It has remained ,to this day, unsolved.
Elliott Ness did have an idea, but whenever he got close to his suspect, the suspect would check himself in an asylum.Since the law of the time stated that you had commited a crime, but you then admitted yourself into psychiatric care, you couldnt be held accountable for the crime.
If anyone has any more information that would help me,I would be greatly appreciative.

geek.gif If you go to www.crimelibrary.com,they have a good overview of it.There are also several books on the subject at www.amazon.com and at Barnes and Nobles, one of which is called Torso which is all about the crimes.Don't know if the killer's identity has ever been released.Course he has to be dead by now.

I read that there was a theory that the Black Dahlia's killer might be linked to the Torso killings because of similarities. The crime library is an excellent resource on serial killers.
