MID, indeed it was a silly movie. While I admittedly found it entertaining, it certainly wasn't due to the sense of reality the movie Director injected, but rather the characters wink2.gif

Yes Bade, therein lies the point, me thinks!

Movies are entertaining. They're supposed to be. It seems to be the confusion between entertaining fiction and some connection to reality that is often the problem...

Watching Bruce Willis wielding a shotgun while chasing a guy for sleeping with his daughter all over the ship was absolutely priceless.

It was. And I kind of enjoyed his golfing, trying to chase the environmentalists close to his oil rig away tongue.gif

MID, exactly so. Movies are supposed to be entertaining, but one should be more than careful to take the message they convey as fact.

I'm quite sure there are a couple 9mm's on board. Pretty dangerous if you ask me as one puncture hole in the side of that craft will be the end of it.

How can you be "quite sure"?

What sort of "home invasion" would occur on a space shuttle mission? What sort of self defense could a gun be needed for on-orbit?
And why a 9 millimeter? Why not a .380 or a .45?

But...you're right...one puncture hole in the wall of that spacecraft and everyone goes bye-bye.

The whole issue has now morphed into the ridiculous, I think.

Why question me? (By your questions, you obviously have not been in the military).

You're the one who said you were quite sure they had a couple of 9 mils on-board.
I asked you why you were sure. Your post begged the question.

That's why I was questioning you.

LordBishop
No my post didn't "beg" the question. I just said that I was quite sure. Can't I have that opinion? Why do I have to go into details of explaining my opinion? Even if I had the proof and pictures, you're not going to believe me anyhow, so just let it go.

What on Earth would they ever need a couple of 9mm's (or anything else like that) for? As you also hint, whatever danger the Astronauts face, none could be solved with a 9mm. If one of the Astronauts went crazy, which I presume would be the only reason, I for one would certainly not put a weapon like that on board for that. Firing it would probably by far outweigh any danger the rogue crew member could ever dream of posing.

Yes you are allowed an opinion, just as others are allowed to question it. This is a discussion board after all.

Any worthwhile opinion is based on knowledge or evidence. people are simply asking what the knowledge or evidence is, especially as you are "quite sure" of your opinion. If you have no knowledge or evidence to back up this opinion then it is simply a guess and you really can't be sure at all.

if you had the proof you would be able to answer the question and would not have reacted in the way you did.
FTW
wouldnt shock me at all if there were a couple of M9's hidden onboard and I would rather they have them and not need them than need them and not have them.
