early march 2007 west Miami Florida, I was sleeping alone (we all do at the end) when I suddenly found myself in a half-awake state, I could see the room around me but was totally unable to move, I felt absolute terror as I felt some sort of "energy" or presence settle on my chest and press down tightly and firmly. I could only groan and slightly move my head from side to side. As I tried to fight whatever it was, it seemed to get stronger and I actually felt pain. So I decided just to let it be and stopped struggling, moments later it was suddenly gone. I felt exhausted and fell into a semi-sleep, I could not open my eyes as I thought I heard heavy footfalls in the room. Finally I thankfully fell asleep. Later I asked my wife (she had been sleeping with one of her ill daughters) if she had come into the room around 0400a, she said no.

Is not the first time I experience this.

Sleep paralysis occurs under high stress/ anxiety. Sounds as if you were under stress at the time. Here is some info. on the subject.. cool.gif

Well, most say you halucinate when you have sleep paralysis. But how are we to determine what was just a dream and what was real? How do we know that our brains aren't more sensitive to experiencing more "spiritual" things?

Either way, I hope I never experience that. I once had an odd dream of being abducted by aliens. In the "dream", I was looking up at the alien and my eyes were wide open, but when I "woke up", my eyes were STILL open. It's as if I didn't have to open them, like they were already open. It seemed like I appeared in my room. Anyway, right after I appeared in my room, I was paralyzed but was awake. It was freaky as hell....

yeah right, because if you're asleep, which are you more likely to do 1) dream or 2) see ghosts?

I used to get a lot of Sleep Paralysis encounters in my early teens. I would get one every other day. It was too scary to me as I wasn't aware they were normal and scientifically explained. I thought they were some sort of convulsions/epilepsy. I must say at the time, I was - like many young teenageers - pretty confused/unsettled. I rarely experience that these days.

I think they need to get people more aware of that phenomenon as it seems many become really confused by it, especially the younger ones.

wether thers a scientific or spirital explination-it still pretty damn creepy!..

Waking up and feeling paralyzed with something holding you down is also a very common feeling when people have reported feeling a demonic presence

Full on. Same happened to me not to long ago. I was dreaming and I knew it but i couldnt move to wake myself up.The dream I had was very close to home, frightening and confusing. Paralized.

The Little Boy Trapped In His House.
Tom and I went to a house, I dont know where or why we were there.
We couldnt get out once we where in. I unfortunately was taken over by two women Ghosts. Tom knew something was wrong for I was praying. I was trying to pray, my mouth would not move. I couldn’t say the words. I could only decipher the first few lines of the holy Mary and the Our Father, and The Lords Prayer.
Another couple who seemed to be near by in a house, some how we where there at some stage. They told us of the story of what went on there.
We fought to get out of the main bed room of which was just like ours. We had at one stage made it to the front door. We went out side but really we werent outside at all. We had walked straight back into our room again. Roslyn was sleeping on Toms side of the bed. I tried to pick her up but she was heavy. She was laughing and it scared me. Convulsions set in. Tom couldn’t believe his eyes. Still he though what was going on was in my head.
I knew Thomas was in another room, but couldnt get to him. When all of a sudden he started to dart in and out and around the rooms in the house.

We could see the women taunting us. One woman was trying to help the other just wanted us to stay there in this house. The Holden Torana started up. We wanted to run we knew the car had no motor at all. It sounded so real. Toms eyes popped out of his head at the though she ( old faithful red) was going.
Finally we thought we could leave.

We ended up back in the room.
The walls where peeling and the noise reminded me of the quakes in 1988.

Id couldnt move from the bed once Tom had laid me down to calm.
Ill I wanted to do was pray. They or something wouldnt let the words come out.
I tried so hard. Tom was really scared by now, We werent being harmed just drawn to where they wanted to take us.

I finally got the kids together, we all ran to the front door. I opened It and pushed Roslyn and Tom out, I new Thomas was out the door to, I seen him run out myself,. Then all of a sudden, a little boy with a back pack went to run out as well, he couldn’t move. He look into my eyes sadly and said, Mummy What about me can I come to
I was so damn f#*king scared by then. I couldnt believe my eyes, or anything I had just seen.

That boy poor little boy trapped for ever.
Gary was waiting outside, he could here all that went on,
Oh GDay guys you here to look at the house to?. Im looking to by it so I can put all my snakes inside.

Tom and I looked at each other, and then we looked at Gary No you are not buying or going in that house ever we will not let you. Oh I told you about the ghost story didnt I? Then I woke up.
I lay in my bed for fifteen minutes just to see whether or not I could move at all. Waiting to see if it was real, waiting to see if I could ever pray again.

Thats exactly how I felt. When I finaly peeled myself from my bed I turned on every light in the house. Then I checked on the kids, pored a straight borboun lit a smoke. At four am I rang my man who was out of town. He totaly spun out. he knew how I felt. For he to had a BAD dream once, his was so much worse than mine. Long Story.

Something similar happend to me too i could see but i couldn't move and breath. It was the first time i had this and i think it was pretty cool grin2.gif becouse thats something new and unexplaind in my life.
Lotus Flower
It is pure terror. I remember staying in a hotel abroad on holiday once. Now this particular room was okay in the day, but during the night it sort of changed, I awoke to feel something on my chest and found it very, very hard to breathe. I wanted to call out to my (then) boyfriend, but I was too scared. I managed to move my arm and turn on the bedside lamp, after which the feeling dissipated and I was able to move.

I have had numerous experiences of sleep paralysis since and it is enough to send one to drinki!!!

Best thing to do with SP is to remind yourself that it will pass and that in a few moments you will wake up properly and be able to move. Don't try and fight it, instead just relax your body and concentrate on moving just a finger or toe.... I always get out of bed afterwards and have something to eat before going back to sleep as I get reoccurring episodes if I don't.
Toxic Flood
I hate sleep paralysis. I've had it twice and it sucks, for those that never want to experience it, try to always sleep on your stomach. Both times I had it happened to be the only times I slept on my back.

Oh, and the way I got it to stop was by making groaning noises (all I could do) and I guess the noises woke me up.

I have had similar experiences. I have experienced sleep paralysis a few times throughout my life but it has gotten considerably more frequest within the last year and a half(since I have moved to NYC, new apartment, etc). These experiences are usually very scary and troubling for me. Usually it starts with me laying bed trying to sleep and all of the sudden there will be a very noticable shift of energy in the room - a pressure and instantly I feel like something is in the room almost always my fears are directed to a certain corner of the bedroom. This is not a good shift of energy either, there is a malavolency about it that scares me. Sometimes it starts to happen with sounds. I will hear sounds like a chainsaw or loud banging and frequently I will hear voices. I will be laying there peacefully and out of nowhere a voice will shout HEY! or say my name or say something totally random. A lot of the times when these things happen I cannot move or talk and the feeling of dread just becomes stronger and stronger. Eventually my limbs will start to loosen and I will be able to utter sounds trying to call to my husband. Also sometimes while this is happening I will have - visions, for lack of a better term. I will see our living room - the other night I saw the living room and a man sitting on our coach. Another time I saw the living room and watched as two white figures walked into our bedroom. I really don't know what to make of these experiences. I don't know if I am just in a half-dream, half-wake state and this is how my anxiety and stress is manifesting itself or if this truly is something paranormal. Sometimes when this all occurs I feel like I am wide awake and sometimes I am not paralyzed - my eyes are open I am looking around - typically looking over my shoulder a thousand times to see if anything is there. This is when I go fetch my husband and make him lay with me until I fall asleep.
Does anybody else have anything similar happen to them or anyone have any ideas or input as to what I could be experiencing here?
Thanks for reading my post!

YEESS!!!! i totally understand. i have had such trouble with this, whenever i was lying on my back in bed it would happen... the energy would also move around on me. i could open my mouth but not make a sound and i could slightly move my head!!! this experience is unbelievibly terrifying, it used to happen often and i now can never sleep on my back. it was sooo terrible that i told my mum that i thought a ghost was visiting me and raping me. i didnt understand it as i felt completely awake and thought that it was just my terror that paralysed me.

if u havnt experienced it i urge u to avoid it at all costs.... it disturbs u for weeks..... wooooo im glad i can talk about it.

You are all very right, the terror of the experience drains your energy and (at least in my case) I am totally exhausted after the experience. The last experience I had, (mentioned at the start of this thread) I actually felt "pain" as I tried to fight back, but eventually I just gave up and that seemed to release its hold. I have spoken to numerous persons about this and some have suggested praying during the experience, I dont know. Most of the time I actually feel some type of presence. I have been experiencing (suffering?) this for many years now and on some occasions while struggling I have managed to turn my head and seen myself in a totally different "room", with nobody around. One memorable experience I was in my parent's house and while in bed I felt suddenly paralyzed and "oppresed" by some sort of energy, now I think I suffered some type of hallucination as the door to the room (which led to the outside patio) was suddenly thrust open and a tall blond woman wearing a white robe and holding a torch! (flame and all) stood there, I could only manage a few groans then I think a fell asleep. Later as I thought about the episode I realized that the woman resembled an acquaintance which I have not seen now in years (but maybe whatever it was made itself look like her?) I dont know but it was not a pleasant experience!
Inner Space
I have been experiencing this since age 4. After educating myself on the phenomenon, I no longer fear the experience, but rather allow it to unfold. If you become the observer, much like watching a movie, you may be amazed where it will lead you. w00t.gif You will then find the experience exhilarating, rather then draining. If you want to avoid it all together, I suggest sleeping on your side, not your back. I have never had SP while sleeping on my side. I hope this helps, as I can totally understand how frightening it can be.

Here is a webpage that might shed more light on the subject for you. http://www.arts.uwaterloo.ca/~acheyne/S_P.html

Inner Space, I am going to give it a try (go with the flow) I think I know what your saying, only if I can get over the fear...

thanks

Sleep Paralysis can be a portal to a lucid dream. I have had many SP episodes and recently I have turned them into actual dreams I can control. The trick is to not freak out when it happens. Instead recognize the fact that it is happening, close your eyes and imagine something, anything really. These dreams are conscious dreams, meaning you know you're dreaming. Every lucid dream I have had I remember very well. Usually they are in real time, so you will probably wake up after the dream is over and the SP episode fades away. It is a true adventure, if you can handle your fears.
