ok a little quick backround..i live in south louisiana im 32 and as a kid raised here,,the woods=playground.we spent all day running in and out of the woods, making camp sights, forts, playing hide an go seek in the dark in the woods.so im comfortable in the woods im comfortable hearing animals you cant see scampering off in the distance or barking at you for coming to close to their house.

reading a post on this sight about bigfoot screaming in the woods and scaring 2 hikers looking for bigfoot reminded me of something that happend to me and my little brother and childhood friend.

mom had just bought a brand new tent for the camping trip coming up, of course the first thing we did was set it up in the back yard and plan a camp out, right behind the house was 20 or 30 acres wide of woods and miles long. (it wasnt uncommon during hunting season for us not to play in the backyard so we wouldnt get shot at by mistake,,anyway).. we were camping out having fun like lil boys do and we were settled in our sleepingbags mom had just checked on us before she went to bed, telling us the door would be open if we needed something..right about the time the threee of us were getting tired and no one was talking just laying in the tent listening to all the noise ,the bugs and small animals playing back and forth then everyting went dead silent. now just from always playing in the woods you learn real fast that when everything is quiet something is wrong,or something has just moved into that area and the animals are paying attention to what ever it might be,,be it you or something passing threw,,my friend had said man it got quiet real fast i said yea i know, then we heard what sounded like breaking wood,,not a stick but more like a dead tree being pushed over or falling.but it was slow and we could hear the thump when it finally finished breaking and hit the fround,,we both sat up and were looking at each other still listening,,and another something was breaking again sounding like a tree falling over slowly cracking and breaking,,, then we heard this god awful scream, shreek roar,,i have no idea how to explain it..all i know is, all three of us sat up grabed our sleeping bags walked out the tent and ran to the house with out speaking a word..haha we did it so fast and quiet no one had to say anything we all knew we needed to be in the house and fast,,we sat up the rest of the night with a crack in the kitchen window that was facing the woods but not hearing anything.ive been in the wods a 1000 times since then and have never heard anything close to that noise.

im not saying what this was one way or another all i know,it scared 3 boys that spent all day in the woods and when we could get away with it as much of the night as we were allowed.we were use to screech owls, neutras hissing, squirrls barking all kinda stuff,,we even found moss growing on a tree that would glow in the dark.(ill be honest that kinda let our imagination run away with us as what would make moss grow in the dark, but its a natural happening thing),,,but that growl scream,,,that was nothing we couldnt explain,,we just new it wasnt something we wanted as a pet,or even to see.

anyone else have anything like this??

Great story Rudeboy. Thanks for sharing it.

unsure.gif That's really creepy. I don't know what to say.

Someone was obviously hiding in the woods that night looking for Bigfoot or trying to scare you. So they got a Bigfoot scream that was recorded on a tape and played it through megaphones.

Pretty obvious.

ha i dont know anyone that looks for bigfoot in south louisiana never even heard stories from people seeing something like a bigfoot down here..and as far as playing it threw a megaphone no way this was the real deal sound the only thing close to the full rich volume and pure presence of this noise,,maybe would be like a lion in the zoo when it lets loose a really good roar,,the roar you can hear threw out the enire zoo..but this was no lions roar..it was a higher pitch but just as deep liike a full out scream ..and we heard the breaking of thick thick wood,,the sound sounded like trees falling in the woods,,wich ive spent more then one day cutting down trees for firewood with uncles,so i know that sound..but it sounded like a dead tree does,,the snap of the wood isnt as crisp... so sorry its not obvios..and to let it be known i am a huge skeptic on almost everything..but i know what we heard that night..

and also if someone was playing a recording wouldnt he play it more then once?? and if it was a megaphone we would have heard it for miles if he did play it again,,it was friggen scary loud
DaTBoYFrOMTeXaS
Lol.

I was kidding, man.

But yeah, your story sounds really creepy.

Becuz most people describe Bigfoot's scream the way you described the sound your heard.
asc.rudeboy
hah aight you never know on this board people are so quick to drop a maybe answer and thats just that ya know...

i lived next to those woods for years after that, after we moved spent manydays back there at my grandmas that lived next door to us,and nothing like that ever happend again, and i never heard anyone even mention something similar,,,they have sinced cleard a huge section of those woods out for a new housing development,,so if whatever it was,was still around it had to find a new home

Did you check it out the next day? Any Foot prints? Did you find the trees that they were breaking? Did you find anything? How far away was this "growl"?

nope i was younger and didnt want anything to do with what was in the woods,,,matter a fact it was probably a couple weeks before we went back into the woods,,and not in the section behind my house, we never went in that section to much anyway they had tons and tons of thorn bushes blocking the way,, the cracking of the trees sounded close and the roar sounded like it was in my tent it was soo friggen loud,,,but no we didnt go check, after about a couple weeks we didnt even think about it.we never heard the noise again..i havent thought about it for years until i read the post on UM

Who collected up your tent and gear afterwards?

Kind of reminds me of the night a bunch of our friends and I decided to camp out near the Missouri River back in the early 70's north of Kansas City.
We set up camp right by the river and right next to an inlet from another creek that joined the river. Right around 2 or 3 in the morning, we were
all still up and talking, when right behind us we heard KAAAAWHOOOSH.. a huge splash from something that jumped into the creek right near
the mouth going out into the big river.. Now this was not a fish unless a whale was in the river.. The splash was as if a cow dove into the river.
Whatever it was, it had to have had that huge of a body from the huge deep sounding splash it made when it hit the water. We immediately
turned around and hit the area with flashlights.. There was nothing there. Had it been a cow, it would have surfaced and we would have seen
it.. Whatever it was, it did not surface.. We could not figure out what that was and it spooked us quite a bit. We ended up going to bed at dawn
as we didn't want to see if whatever it was decided to come back out of the water. All I know is that it was huge and it jumped into the water
or slipped and fell. Not certain what it was, but I still remember it well.

thats crazy, here we probably would have blamed that on aliigators slapping their tail,,they can make a huge splash with those things....

doing some research i found a few people not many at all,,but a few people claim to have seen a bigfoot, skunkape typ creature in louisiana...ive been living here for 25 years and this was the first time ever hearing about it...i never thought it to be a bigfoot or skunkape,if i would have known we had reported stories of that kinda thinkg in LA. we shure would have went and tried to find the broken trees and look for footprints......but atleast i got a creepy campfire story to tell my little girl when we go camping,,,

Man...if I was there I would have crapped my pants. I still get scared of the dark in my own home sad.gif

very funny. I heard a scream in the woods of an unknown animal when I was camping once, it was very loud. I did not investigate, just finished doing my business and scurried back to my tent. I live in Michigan.

man, that reminds me of a few things that have happened to me. once i was at a friends house, and we were filming a five lined skink that we caught earlier that day. right after my friend cut, we heard this high pitched scream from outside, it sounded like a girl screaming, but it was too non-human to be a little girl. the window was cracked, so we could here it pretty well. my friend has 30 some acres of woods. well anyway, when we heard that scream, we all ran outside and listened. but we heard nothing. i think this scream coincides with other things we have experienced in those woods. once we found a mutilated deer leg laying near a fence in the woods. my guess is that it was a mountain lion, because there had been reports of mountain lions around back then.

your story also reminds me of something my dad once explained to me. he was standing on the back porch one night when he saw a silouhette in the line of evergreen trees we have in my backyard. he said that it was bigger than a regular coyote, but smaller than a human or bear. i don't know what he saw. i don't remember if he said if it was standing or on all fours.

Aaaaaah unsure.gif that must have been real scarey, its funny to think that they also say, its not the pictures in a film that make it scarey, its the sounds that go with them.

That story reminds me of an experience i had on a farm i once lived on a few years ago. I'm known for going on adventures and hikes day or night, whatever. One night me and nugget (my dog) decided to go out on one of our little walks. It was time to visit the little stream ust down the hill and it was quite a dark night, i think the moon must have waned to a slither. There was quite a-lot of mist about too which intensifies the atmousphere. So we climbed over the fence and the antcient fallen oak that come befoe the field. There were lots of cows in it, which are actually quite creepy at night, they seem less willing to leave you alone even when you clap at them. We contimued to wonder down the side of the stream which went through the field and came to the usual place i like to stop and play. I had just finished wading and had got my socks and shoes back on. We were sitting staring at the mist and what we could see of the moon when all of a sudden, these aggressive snorting noises started ranting right next to us from inside a bush, together with loud russtles. The shock froze me to the spot. Now i'm not saying this was anything sub-normal or supernatural, but it was SO sudden, and the noise was not from a small or even a pig sized creature, this is not an area where there are wild pigs or bores. The snort was far deeper than a pig aswell. The snort sounded progrssively more agitated and it was llike about a foot away from us. I was sitting frozen in shock unsure what to do. My instinct was to stay still but my thought was, i'm not playing chicken with this thing to see who leaves first, but my fear froze me. After a minute or so of these thoughts i decided to count to 10 and run, so i did. Thats all. I totally can relate to how scarey it must have been hearing it and having no idea what it was he he.

NICE ONE! thumbsup.gif

ha its cray how the human mind works when your scard, theres a thousand and one thoughts that happen at one time all in somekind of crazy frenzy,,,you can narrow down in a nano second what the noise isnt then the giant list of things that it might be gets checked off and reviewed...then the decesion to just leave lights up and screams in your head hahaha,,,then when you know the right answer you still almost have to convence yourself thats its the right answer to leave,,,
