Rural people in Tamilnadu offer various kinds of ritualistic practices
in front of rural deities particularly to goddesses called ammans.
That is shakthi worship is being practiced for fulfilling their demands.
Here I would like to post certain video clippings for your reference and discussion.

1. A devotee dressed like goddess blessing and dancing and walking on the other devotees back at Melmalaiyanur, Tamilnadu

Is the main devotee in a trance, or some kind of ecstatic state?

Is the purpose of walking over, or on the participants to basically remove their ignorance, karma (not just a jesture of blessing for financial, material gain), just like many religious (Hindu and Buddhist) statues which depict a certain god or goddess on top of a demon, etc.? Is there shakti-pat envolved with her feet?

Great videos! thumbsup.gif
My sister in law is from Tamilnadu. My brother was telling me that her mother is from a certain culture in the area that is more matriarchal in nature. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm hoping to go there sometime in the near future, it will be amazing I'm sure! My brother made me a dvd from his visit there, which had traditional music and religious rituals, it was fascinating and beautiful.

Palkudam at anumanthapuram( Part 1), Tamilnadu

linked-image

. palkudam (milk pot procession )taken by the devotees of MONDI MARIAMMAN temple at anumanthapuram . The milk will be poured on the deity’s idol finally.

Palkudam(milk pots) you can see in the picture are decorated and placed cocanut at the top are about to take out a proceesion by the commited devotees, dressed in yellow and garlanded. Before taking the milk pots the rural priests invite the deity's spirit by humming and drumming.
Here i want to pointed one thing iam just an onlooker reporting what i have seen and told. These views are not mine. ok.
Among the devotees certain people managed to establish link with the spirit(deity) energy and began to dance according to the rythem. Then the priests will ask them to take ALAKU (a metal made up of silver / copper like a trisul etc and insert the metal into the tongue of the spirited devotee along with lemon). People took the ALAKU are considered as GOD/deity like, and others will honour and worship them
