Full Version: Is christianity the refuge of the hypocrite &

I know someone that assaults Atheists every chance they get. Somehow, something about not believing as they do scares the life out of them and so they assault with ad homonyms in conversations, posts in forums, and hypocrisy all the while is their profile for all to see. But no one seems to notice it. Instead this hypocrite that mocks the catholic faith, retains their position as arrogant, ignorant and hateful to the core. Why? They use bible verses to affirm they're in the right. They imagine they have a lofty position to say everyone that doesn't think as they do are wrong and worthy of mockery and derision that they can call up from anyone else they find, so they may gain an allie in assaulting people that don't think as they do. It must be very lonely to be them. No wonder they're an alcoholic. And it shows.

So what is it that makes someone cloth themselves in christianity, just to example themselves as a believer and from there promote hate, intolerance and disrespect for everyone else?! Is separatism the death of dreams? Is hate the refuge of the small minded!? Can faith become what ever the faithful imagine it to be, as they mold themselves to be the hate they feel inside, for everyone and everything else and excuse their contempt as a god given ordinance against all others they fear?

Take for instance the worst examples of christian faith. Jim Jones was a charismatic minister that enjoyed wealth and privilege and the trust of hundreds of christian faithful. He moved his ministry to Guyana, claiming he and his flock were being oppressed by unbelievers in the States. And there, when what he was running from in the United States , caught up to him and he murdered every single one of his flock, with poisoned Kool Aid, then shot himself in the head. His victims that day were suppose to take comfort in the knowledge he imparted to them, as many were forced to drink at gunpoint, because they were watching their loved ones suffer excruciating pain around them after having already consumed the arsenic in their Kool Aid, that they would be reunited in heaven. No one knows if they were, but the world saw the images of what happened to their Earthly bodies after they were led to believe on November 18, 1978. 914 died: 638 adults and 276 children. Praise the lord?

Marshal Applewhite and his wife led the Heavens Gate Cult to follow christ and look for a UFO secreted in the tail of the Hale Bop comet. The males castrated themselves, in the name of faith. 39 people committed suicide, in hopes of being reunited in that UFO that was actually found by the Vatican Observatory days after their demise.

Stupid people! Some may say. But what compels reason to take a hike and that intense faith take hold?! What makes people of faith hate others not like themselves so much so that they taunt and harass , deride and condemn!? If christ brings light to the heart, what then spews from the mouth and the fingers, on-line, so as to announce for everyone to read, this is what my faith makes of me and I'm proud!

I knew someone who attacked anyone who did not share his belief system. He was a Christian by his own definition, but not any kind of Christian by my definition. He (and the members of his church group) shaped whatever passage of the Bible closely resembled their argument, and made a mockery of most of what is contained in that book by means of manipulation, deliberate misinterpretation, and the incorrect application of its teachings to their lives. They were not Christians who Christ (if he existed) would have applauded for their faith. They said one thing and did quite the opposite. To me, it's no surprise that people who call themselves Christians can behave in such an unChristian manner. That group delighted in making non-believers feel small. They behaved like members of some select club... they expected respect and adulation, because they had risen from the depths of non-believing dispair and had been elevated to some superior level of existence by means of their faith.

In reality they were not posessed of the faith they brandished. When the smallest thing went wrong they accused God of abandoning them. Their God was supposed to make their lives easy, because they went to Church for him, threw themselves about and spoke in tongues for him, and devoted every moment of their lives to him. In effect they thought they were in some reward scheme (like collecting loyalty points) whereby two weeks of prayer bought you a month of happiness and no unexpected bills. rolleyes.gif

That's why they can call themselves Christian and be hateful and disrespectful... their definition of Christianity is not even closely related to an accurate understanding of what it is supposed to mean to be a Christian. I could call myself a saint, but I'm no closer to being one. no.gif

Imagine you're ignorant and uneducated (I know it's hard laugh.gif ). Imagine you have little going for you. You've always wanted to be something, but nature didn't bless you with a quick mind, good looks, money... whatever. Now join a church and be told that you're on the path to salvation. You've got a ticket into heaven. You can repeat arguments you hear in your church group that your non-believing friends can't counter. People might think you're smart because you've taken a Bible studies exam and can quote chapter and verse. You belong, you have knowledge, you're saved... you're superior. Everyone else is beneath you. That about covers every member of the group I described above. None of them had anything going for them, and yet they looked down their noses at everyone. Their religion was a weapon, and they enjoyed wielding it... they really enjoyed it.

knowing you're right, superior, chosen, whatever, can make a person extremely arrogant, intolerant, offensive, etc.

This is begining to become annoying, GW. I mean, I don't like christianity..I mean I *really* don't like christianity. I'm the guy who wants to tear down the churches. But why must you continue to post threads like this? The news stories = fine. Love reading those. But after the first 50, topics like *this* get repetative.
