FYI - there is no hidden agenda...I'm just curious. Answer honestly please

When I was "saved" I read the bible. Revelation to Leviticus. Yes, in that order. My pastor told me I should read revelations first because we are in the revelation period

. Then I read a few parts here and there throughout the bible.
Edit: Just wanted to add, Exodus is my favourite book

I read the bible when smaller and when I went through a 'saved' period in my early teens but I never did it with much commitment and I certainly cannot quote chapter and verse at all. I think the minute I regained control of my mind I left the bible behind and I'm not sorry for it.
It does contain some wisdom but no more than any other good book I've read plus the way people react to being believers makes me see the bible as more evil than good.

Ah same here. I read it when I was 19 when I first started reading up on Christianity. I read page to page...can't remember why, I was very strange in those days. Can barely remember a damn thing though

Funny you should ask sweetie....

I always assumed I was a good Christian girl until I joined this forum.....
Within a few minutes of posting on a thread about Christians, it became
evidently clear that I didn't know what the neck I was on about......
A couple of lovely Christian boys set me straight and quizzed me on my knowledge of Christianity....
Well of course I had to admit that I've never read the Bible..

On occasion, I have picked it up, flicked through and saw no pictures and put it down again.....
What I know of Christianity is from attending church (rarely I might add), school scripture (what I remember) and the annual Hollywood xmas movies about Jesus' last days......
What it boils down to is people care enough to educate themselves about Christianity.... And I thought studying the Bible wasn't necessary.....

I've read it many times though just not recently in it's entire form. Being raised roman catholic kind of forces you to read it though.

I've read it through twice (once in order, which really bogged me down round-abouts Numbers or Deuteronomy, and once in a different order). Additionally, I've read individual bits and pieces at various times to probably equal another couple of readings through. In short (and my vote) - Yes, I have read the Bible.

Like PA, I've read through the Bible more than once, and also found myself bogged down in several Old Testament Books. I read/study passages on an almost daily basis, and my study has taken on more importance since joining UM (nothing like having to explain proper context on an almost regular basis to make you pay attention to what you're reading)
I love reading Ecclesiastes, Esther, Ruth, Proverbs, John, Acts, Ephesians, Hebrews and Revelation.

So yeah... I've read the bible.

I have to agree with all the above... around Leviticus you sort of want to stop if you read in order...
Personally, I'm a fan of Revelation, Isaiah, Daniel, Jude, Jeremiah, Peter, Romans, and Proverbs...
Now that i'm familiar with the Bible, I can find what i ndeed whenever i need it, so i just skim through it... i teach Bible study, so i have to stay reading and researching... i've found so much information there almost every time i read the same verse, i find something totally new...
speaking of that... i haven't worked on Revelation 2 for Bible study on sunday... i been on this site all week... i guess i better get started....

A long time ago. It shares a three way tie with The Hobbit and Analects for the most boring book I ever read. *shrug*

I've got this thing about reading certain books because I believe every person SHOULD read them - because what they contain are important for general knowledge. I started on the Bible when I was about 15 for this reason. I quickly got bored, but I do want to read it in its entirety at least once in my life.
The Christian Bible, whether you believe in it or not, is admittedly the book that has affected history more than any other book out there. I think everyone should read it just because of that.

I've read it completely through about 5 or 6 times in my life (only because of research).
I rank it as one of the most boring, convoluted books I've ever read.

It's not necessary MUM...if you feel you are a good chrsitian, don't let others in the forum, make you feel less about that...its just a few opinions...I for one wouldn't loose sleep over it!!
I have had to read it..my family used to make us take turns reading passage after passage...had it preached to me too.............I feel im better off without it...just my own opinion though...if it don't make sense to me and I don't feel it explains a whole lot, I drop it like a hot pototoe LOL

Read it a couple of times. Was incredibly boring.
I find the Koran is written in a much more readable style.
Though the concepts are interesting the book itself always seemed to primitive for the modern age to I

I was thinking the same thing last night when I was reading the Qur'an. So far from what I have read, it has the same stories as in the bibe. Like when Moses free'd the slaves from the Pharoah, parting of the sea, worshipping the golden calf, but much easier to read than the bible's take on it.

Being brought up in a very strict christian household, I have read the bible , and been required to memorize scripture from a very early age. I have read the Protestant version through 4 times, and the catholic version twice.

it's only boring if you are trying to read it like a novel... which doesn't work... the Bible makes perfect sense...
believe it or not... it actually works like one of those "FIND IT" books...
it seems written like that on purpose so that even if you lose a few pages... you still have the story....
if you took out all of Genesis... you could still find all of the stories spread throughout the Bible...

When I was a teen I read bits of it, but then realised I already had morals and knew how to behave, so I didn't need a book or a religion to tell me how to live my life, so I read other books instead.
To quote a comedian (I can't remember which one) "Clockwork Orange is a book, feel free to base your life on that one"
