searching on the web for a crazy story about einstein i heard form a friend yesterday i came across this websight about john titor http://www.johntitor.com/ now i remember reading about him years ago.. but now seven years later revisiting his posts and this sight,,some of the things he said never came to pass..for example 2 really big ones

1.Are the Olympics still being played in the future?
As a result of the many conflicts, no, there were no official Olympics after 2004. However, it appears they may be revived in 2040.

2.There is a civil war in the United States that starts in 2005. That conflict flares up and down for 10 years. In 2015, Russia launches a nuclear strike against the major cities in the United States (which is the "other side" of the civil war from my perspective), China and Europe. The United States counter attacks. The US cities are destroyed along with the AFE (American Federal Empire)...thus we (in the country) won. The European Union and China were also destroyed. Russia is now our largest trading partner and the Capitol of the US was moved to Omaha Nebraska.

he did make statments on MAD COW.
but mad cow was discoverd in the uk in 1985,but didnt show up in the states till 2003.predicting the disease travinlg to the u.s. isnt really a stretch and so far it hasnt become a huge epdemic for animals or humans

"The disease has virtually no pathway for transfer to humans, and strict government feed regulations will effectively prevent its spread to other cattle. Moreover, modern statistical analysis allows scientists to determine whether BSE is present in the herds without testing every animal. By testing hundreds of thousands of animals, as the U.S. will do this year, analysts can learn nearly as much as by testing every cow."
http://www.mad-cow-facts.com/about.htm

about his reason to be here in the past,,,

"John mentions that the 5100 had some sort of inbuilt ability to translate computer languages that was unknown or unpublished before 2036. The computer would then have been used back in his time to translate or fix broken computer systems.

Based on his explanation, it would appear there must have been an easier way to solve this problem in 2036. If you can travel in time, why go back for a piece of old technology that we find useless? This may seem logical until you realize that even today, NASA scours the Internet looking for old computer parts to keep their systems running."

evidence to support:

"9/14/04

IS THE NUMBER TWO ENGINEER ON THE IBM 5100 CONFIRMING JOHN'S MISSION?!

Secrets of the City
Time traveler most likely to be spotted in Rochester

According to Bob Dubke, the second engineer on IBM's 5100 team in Rochester (who now co-owns a locally-based company called eXport Ventures Corp. and also works for Edina Realty), that secret function was his contribution to the design of the computer. The function, which IBM suppressed because of worries about how their competition might use it, was an interface between the assembly code surrounding the computer's ROM exterior, and the 360 emulator hidden beneath it. (IBM declined to comment for this story.) The 5100's emulator gave programmers access to the functions of the monstrous, and much less portable machines, that IBM had produced during the 1960s. An imprint of a hook on the outside of the 5100 symbolized the ability of Dubke's interface to drop into what Titor called "legacy code," and scoop out any necessary operating instructions.

and reciently more statments about the z machine, freezing water at temps higher then boiling water and creating mini black holes in labs, resemble some of his predicitions..but once again arnt these just predistions a educated man could have made?

now im not saying he was real or not actually i find it extremly hard to believe, but 7 years later people are still talking about him and finding new info to support the fact that he was legit. my only problem is a beliver will find evidence to prove it wile ignoring evidence against it and a non beliver will do the same,,just like ufo, ghost, big foot what ever..so belive or not have you read anyhting about this man that made you stop and ponder?any new evidence?

(just a wondering thoughts of a man stuck at work on a saturday)

I think i've now posted this about 25 times on this website.

John Titor was infact the web admin of johntitor.com, who hoaxed the entire thing for merchandising. And made a pretty penny of the gulibility of internet folks too. He came out and admitted the whole thing in the same forum where he posted most of his predictions. Years ago.

Clever guy, seriously. He used deductive reasoning for his predictions, and got pretty close with some of them too.
CuteCandy
by my opinion, john titor is a hoax made by a new agers.

When I first heard him. I thought he was serious. That he was a time traveler. Then I got wise up & became believing he was fake. :/ What a weird-o. One serious bored dude.

haha thats awsome, you wouldnt happen to know where i could find that huh? i started looking up john again looking for his predictions and nothing came up about a hoax..

hey burnside by the way i work at BURNSIDE ANCHORAGE,and i drive down burnside blvd damn near everyday....not that this has anyhting to do with anything i just hought it funny

Of course it's a hoax but the beauty of it is that "he" is and knows very much
what a "real" time traveler would be and know. Much of it was pure genius but
they should have avoided "predictions" so close to the current time. Even those
which didn't come true are not so outlandish as some might think. If he suddenly
reappeared he could make a good case that his actions inadvertantly changed history.

Better predictions could be made but incorporating something so outlandish as time
travel forces one's hands a lot and changes the types of predictions which are plau-
sible.

Do you have a link to where he said that? I have heard that many times but never seen proof of it. I don't believe the story at all, but I'll admit he had me fooled for a while! laugh.gif

You'll find most of the information in this thread;

It was a good story but how can you be fooled by some idiot claiming to be a time traveller? Magic beans anyone?

By the same token Marty McFly invented rock n' roll. What are the odds that the idiots that believed in Titor ferociously lap up Nostradamus and all that crap.

I like to think about it this way. Acording to more than one credible theory, time travel is possible. We just don't have the knowledge or the technology to do it. Yet. If time travel is made possible someday, it will be used. So acording to theory, time travellers exist. In theory anyway. This does not mean I believe that John Titor was a time traveller. It is entirely possible he was just a really good snake oil salesman. I don't know for sure, I have never seen, or heard about him saying it was all a hoax. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

Good Journey.

What if John Titor came from a different timeline, where the events he talked about did come to pass, but Time Travel does not actually allow you to go back in time to your timeline's time, but an alternate timeline where these things may -- or may not -- come to pass but not exactly the dates predicted?!

Z498
O my gosh...it's so clear it's a hoax, people should've know it was a hoax when there was a winter olympics AND when a civil war didn't start in 2005.
bluelight
lol as fake as this guy goes, his prediction are really up close. I guess he's been studying the social lives and news to make this work.
Lord Umbarger
I think most every body either knows it's a hoax or will figure it out in short order. Nonetheless, it was fun for a while. If nothing else, it was at least well done.

The really funny part about it is that when he did that people claimed that there was a conspiracy to cover up the fact that John Titor was real. Then someone else came, claimed he was John's friend, and that it really was a hoaxe.. and so it went on and on, and the tin foil hats were many. rofl.gif

Meh. Doctor Who is still the best time travel adventurer for your money.

Though if Titor was only talking about the Summer Olympics as many people do when they talk about the Olympics, then those predictions may still come to pass.

There's actually an article about John Titor on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Titor.

It gives evidence of hoaxing.

Evidence of hoaxing

A cursory examination of the claims suggests several problems with the story, leading some to question Titor's claims and label him a fraud or a hoaxer.

For instance, he describes a future in which money is largely dispensed with in favor of communal bartering, but in other cases claims that money is widely used and they still have credit cards. These claims appear to be opposed, it does not seem obvious how one could operate a credit system with widespread barter because of the smaller number of cash transactions this would imply. In another post he speculated that today's money would be usable in his time, but this would be after the collapse of the federal government according to his own history, which would make the money worthless.[3]

Of particular interest is the fact that the device is implied to be a Tipler Cylinder, but one well known "side effect" of this device is that it can only be used to travel to times in which the device already existed – Titor could travel into the past with one, but only to 2034, which is when he claimed it was first built.[4] It has been suggested that the description of the system has been copied with almost no modification from a particular work, the general science book Hyperspace written by Dr. Michio Kaku.[5]

The images posted by Titor are likewise problematic. The image of the laser pointer's beam being "bent" has the obvious problem that objects around the beam are not bent. For instance, the framing of the window visible in the background shows no distortion, which would not be the case if there was a large gravity gradient in the area. Some have speculated the "beam" is a fiber optic.[6]

Titor claimed that he was sent back to obtain an IBM 5100 because it could emulate mainframes. Supporters have implied that this capability was a "secret" that was not known in 2000/1 when the posts were being made. However, this capability was actually widely known in the industry, and commented on in depth in numerous publications, both about the 5100 and APL in general.[7] References to this fact were also available on the internet as early as 1999. This is a fairly obscure bit of trivia, however, which suggests whoever was making the posts was familiar with the machine, or had an interest in retrocomputing.[8]

Other predictions have simply proven not to be true. For instance, he stated that the Olympics Games would end with the 2004 Summer Olympics, but this proved contrary to subsequent real-world events as the 2006 Winter Olympics were successfully held, though some people argue that he was only talking about the Summer Games (and, of course, the next Summer Games aren't due until 2008).

In light of such predictive failings supporters have speculated, ex post facto, that the history relayed by Titor could have referred to one possible course for the future, suggesting that humans may have since created an alternate future by going about things differently. On the other hand, any statement can be supported by this idea; therefore this is precisely the sort of unfalsifiable claim that Karl Popper noted when he developed his thoughts on falsifiability; when faced with evidence that contradicts a claim, that claim is simply modified or removed outright to fix the problem. There is no limit to the modifications that could be carried out, thereby rendering it impossible to state that the facts disagree with the claims. For instance, if every one of the original claims turns out to be wrong, it could simply be stated that "Titor did his job". This is, as Popper pointed out, a key indication of a pseudoscience. In May 2007, Seattle-based dentist and time travel expert Dr. Bruce Goldberg, on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, brought up that Titor never tipped the world off regarding September, 11 2001.

But he also has his believers.....

Supporters' claims

Some who advocate Titor's predictions have various justifications for the apparent failings in them:

According to IBM engineer Bob Dubke, Titor's statements regarding the IBM 5100's little-known ability to emulate and debug mainframe systems were correct. [9] It has been stated that this information was not publicly available when Titor made his declaration.[10]

The 2004 Summer Olympics, held in Athens, Greece, will be the last held according to Titor, who predicted that there would be "no official Olympics after 2004"[11]. All others will be cancelled due to rising global tensions. If correct, this means that the projected 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China and the 2012 Summer Olympics planned for London, England, will not take place, and would mean that John Titor was referring only to the Summer Olympics, since the 2006 Winter Olympics were successfully held in Turin, Italy. Titor never specified whether he meant the Summer Olympics or the Winter Olympics, or both, using only the word Olympics, however, the Olympics starting and finishing in Athens by chance would probably be sufficiently serendipitous for many to quote this about the games, casually ignoring the Winter Olympics.

Some have stated that Titor has been proved a hoax[12] due to the fact that a Second American Civil War never broke out in 2004–2005. Titor claimed that these years would see the rise of great civil unrest (whether this has occurred is debatable in itself), and that actual civil war would not break out until 2008. Titor also claimed that "Waco"-like events (referring to the Waco Siege in 1993) would become commonplace[13].

An alternative theory for the failure of the predictions could be that they are from his 'worldline', not ours

...or it could just be that it was a hoax. As someone has already admitted.
