I have often wondered about prehistoric markings in rocks, especially concentric circles. For what it's woth, I have my own little theory as to haw they came about. Distant ancesters may have witnessed their first thaw, and in the process they may have witnessed the 'strange' concentric circles forming as the rain hit their new available drinking source, (puddles). They may have deemed it fit to record this 'miracle' in stone. Just another theory folks, maybe it holds water or maybe not. What do you all think?.
If you think I'm just another eccentric english man, I would forgive you.

I always thought they were more like spirals than concentric circles...

Hi Pax. The ones you show are spiral, but there are many that are concentric all over europe. Interesting image you've found there. you don't say what it's thought to represent though. Bye the way, your the first who's written to me on this forum, so I should remember that to my diary.

I quite like the idea. Lots of people here tend to turn our ancestors into blithering idiots because of their lack of technological sophistication, and think they couldn't do much without supernatural or extraterrestrial powers.
I like this because it reflects the simplicity, beauty and imagination I think our ancestors held in a dignified way.
Bravo!

well, I could suggest the ancients were aware of spiral galaxy's, or the spirals represent gods fingerprints... unlikely though. perhaps the spiral represents the course of life... who can say?

this is neither a spiral nor a true concentric circle, being more like concentric arcs... I don't have a clue what they represent. grin2.gif

BTW, I already left a welcome on your profile page, but here’s another... welcome to UM. original.gif

Blue boy- Thanks Jaylemuph. Another thought. Barring starvation, and the constant need to hunt and forage, when content, the only distraction must have been the intensity of nature. We only need to think of our modern times and how the night sky goes practically unoticed because of light polution. The acestral nightime sky would have been one overwhelming 'movie' with admission free. Just another instance of nature on line.
