Some other cool facts about the bible just in case you get bored

The great biological truth concerning the importance of blood in our body’s mechanism has been fully comprehended only in recent years. Up until 120 years ago, sick people were “bled,” and many died because of the practice. If you lose your blood, you lose your life. Yet Leviticus 17:11, written 3,000 years ago, declared that blood is the source of life: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood.”

Encyclopedia Britannica documents that in 1845, a young doctor in Vienna named Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis was horrified at the terrible death rate of women who gave birth in hospitals. As many as 30 percent died after giving birth. Semmelweis noted that doctors would examine the bodies of patients who died, then, without washing their hands, go straight to the next ward and examine expectant mothers. This was their normal practice, because the presence of microscopic diseases was unknown. Semmelweis insisted that doctors wash their hands before examinations, and the death rate immediately dropped to 2 percent. Look at the specific instructions God gave His people for when they encounter disease: “And when he that has an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean” (Leviticus 15:13). Until recent years, doctors washed their hands in a bowl of water, leaving invisible germs on their hands. However, the Bible says specifically to wash hands under “running water.”

All things were made by Him (see John 1:3), including dinosaurs. Why then did the dinosaur disappear? The answer may be in Job 40:15–24. In this passage, God speaks about a great creature called “behemoth.” Some commentators think this was a hippopotamus. However, the hippo’s tail isn’t like a large tree, but a small twig. Following are the characteristics of this huge animal: It was the largest of all the creatures God made; was plant-eating (herbivorous); had its strength in its hips and a tail like a large tree. It had very strong bones, lived among the trees, drank massive amounts of water, and was not disturbed by a raging river. He appears impervious to attack because his nose could pierce through snares, but Scripture says, “He that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.” In other words, God caused this, the largest of all the creatures He had made, to become extinct.

Luke 17:34–36 says the Second Coming of Jesus Christ will occur while some are asleep at night and others are working at daytime activities in the field. This is a clear indication of a revolving earth, with day and night at the same time

“During the devastating Black Death of the fourteenth century, patients who were sick or dead were kept in the same rooms as the rest of the family. People often wondered why the disease was affecting so many people at one time. They attributed these epidemics to ‘bad air’ or ‘evil spirits.’ However, careful attention to the medical commands of God as revealed in Leviticus would have saved untold millions of lives. Arturo Castiglione wrote about the overwhelming importance of this biblical medical law: ‘The laws against leprosy in Leviticus 13 may be regarded as the first model of sanitary legislation’ (A History of Medicine).” Grant R. Jeffery, The Signature of God.

Job 38:19 asks, “Where is the way where light dwells?” Modern man has only recently discovered that light (electromagnetic radiation) has a “way,” traveling at 186,000 miles per second

Medical science has only recently discovered that blood-clotting in a newborn reaches its peak on the eighth day, then drops. The Bible consistently says that a baby must be circumcised on the eighth day.
Science has discovered that stars emit radio waves, which are received on earth as a high pitch. God mentioned this in Job 38:7: “When the morning stars sang together...”

Hebrews 11:3 (written 2000 years ago): "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." <<sounds very similar to ATOMS which we cannot see with the naked eye tongue.gif

Psalm 8:8: "And the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passes through the paths of the seas."
What does the Bible mean by "paths" of the seas? The sea is just a huge mass of water, how then could it have "paths?" Man discovered the existence of ocean currents in the 1850's, but the Bible declared the science of oceanography 2,800 years ago. Matthew Maury (1806- 1873) is considered to be the father of oceanography. He was bedridden during a serious illness and asked his son to read a portion of the Bible to him. While listening, he noticed the expression "paths of the sea." Upon his recovery, Maury took God at His word and went looking for these paths. His book on oceanography is still considered a basic text on the subject and is still used in universities.

Jonah 2:6 (written 2,800 years ago): "I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet have you brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God."
When Jonah was in the depths of the ocean, he spoke of going down to the "bottoms of the mountains." Only in recent years has man discovered that there are mountains on the ocean floor. The greatest ocean depth has been sounded in the Challenger Deep of the Mariana's Trench, a distance of 35,798 feet below sea level. Mount Everest is 29,035 feet high

Job 38:12, 14, (written 3500 years ago) God Himself says: "Have you commanded the morning since your days; and caused the dayspring to know his place; that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? It [the earth] is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment."
Modern science has come to understand that the earth's rotation on its axis is responsible for the sun's rising and setting. The picture here is of a vessel of clay being turned or rotated upon the potter's wheel -- an accurate analogy of the earth's rotation.

Psalm 19:4-6: "In them has He set a tabernacle for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoices as a strong man to run a race. His [the sun's] going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof."
Bible critics have scoffed at these verses, saying that they teach that the sun revolves around the earth. Science told them that the sun was stationary. Then they discovered that the sun is in fact moving through space at approximately 600,000 miles per hour. It is traveling through the heavens and has a "circuit" just as the Bible says. It is estimated that its circuit is so large, it would take 200 million years to complete one orbit.

Job 38:22 (written 3,500 years ago). God says: "Have you entered into the treasures of the snow?"
It wasn't until the advent of the microscope that man discovered that each and every single snowflake is uniquely a symmetrical "treasure."

Genesis 2:1 (after creation): "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them."
The Hebrew word used here is the past definite tense for the verb "finished," indicating an action completed in the past, never again to occur. The creation was "finished" -- once and for all. That is what the First Law of Thermodynamics says. It states that neither matter nor energy can be either created or destroyed. There is no "creation" ongoing today. It is "finished" exactly as the Bible states.

Genesis 17:12: "And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed."
Why was circumcision to be carried out on the eighth day? Medical science has discovered that the eighth day is the only day in the entire life of the newborn that the blood clotting element prothrombin is above 100%.

Genesis 3:15: "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel."
This verse reveals that a female possesses the "seed of life." This was not the common knowledge until a few centuries ago. It was widely believed that the male only possessed the "seed of life" and that the woman was nothing more than a glorified incubator.

Job 26:7 (written 3500 years ago): "He stretches out the north over the empty place . . ."

Less than 200 years ago, through the advent of massive telescopes, science learned about the great empty space in the north.

Isaiah 40:22 (written 2,800 years ago): "It is He that . . . stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in."
Scientists are beginning to understand that the universe is expanding, or stretching out. At least seven times in Scripture we are clearly told that God stretches out the heavens like a curtain.

I just boil every time I see that hideous family.

Then I calm myself by thinking that they want me to feel angry and hate them. It gets them off.

i think i'll take you up on that... show me the scripture...

and since you're so familiar with the Bible... how did you miss this...

"Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker, and he who is glad at calamity shall not be held innocent or go unpunished." Proverbs 17:5

"Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him." Proverbs 24:17-18

what part of that says it's ok for those people to do what they are doing? that seems to be the exact opposite of what you just says the Bible teaches...

im gona agree with you on this one, Christianity was not built on hate, it was sopposed to be about Peace and love humans because there a brother or a sister even if they believe in another religion , you know the "Turn the other cheek" all these people in this "HAte" religion in WV are not true followers of Christianity because Jesus never preached that any one should judge any one he preached about helping others,

I watched the full Louis Theroux documentary on Telewest/Virgin in the UK (it's on repeat for a few more days), these people are just vile. What really was annoying is how the leader of this cult, when interviewed by Louis, would not answer any of his legitimate questions and just threw a load of insults at him instead.

I love Louis documentaries, he's really disarming and can get people to open up, but I was annoyed with myself for watching these people and giving them the attention they crave - they can't surely BELIEVE what they're preaching? It's beyond me, they had placards at a soldiers funeral saying "Thank God for 9/11" - evil and horrible people. I was pleased when he went on pickets with them that he'd say, "I'm going to stand away from you because I don't want people to think I'm one of you".

"I'm going to stand away from you because I don't want people to think I'm one of you".
Guilt by association. Yes indeed. And these people, give an impression that this is what christianity is. Guilt by association. There are counter protesters involved in the coverage of these events, but the squeaky wheel gets the media attention. And in this case, people that are so blatantly contrary to christian morality, especially at funerals before the church doors, often enough, make the most noise so as to get the camera's to turn their way. Thereby demonstrating they're proud to call themselves children of the god they believe, hates gays and the America they live in. Tax exempt as a first amendment protected religious organization that spouts hate.

I'd like to see an activist group petition the IRS to revoke their tax exempt status. Then when old Fred baits someone to strike him, (Or any one of the other of the congregation, of which the Phelps spawn make up 90%) , so they can sue and get more money for their psycho road trips, they have to pay taxes for the pleasure of being a bold a*** in public.

Westover Baptist church, if you ain't psycho you ain't there.

I Emailed the church two reminders, that I doubt they know exist in their kind of bible:

I John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

I John 4:20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.

Maybe I'll start a trend. laugh.gif Now if only an Attorney would decide to pursue that other part, what a headline that would be! "Westover Baptist Church stripped of religious tax exempt status!" Then years later a new headline: "Entire Phelps congregation imprisoned for tax evasion. Prisoners elated at chance to welcome the new arrivals, while State Attorney General gifts Clan with copies of Dante's Inferno" laugh.gif

Why didnt you just say POPES??

because i was pointing out that it was not the action of a whole religion, but a few men associated with that religion. there were also other catholics that condoned it... and a lot who DID NOT condone what went on... but it was by the Pope's order...

QUOTE
But see catholic do post here too...dont you think that if you call them EVIL...someone is going to be offended??

i didn't call them evil... because i don't think ALL catholics are evil... just like i don't think ALL Christians are good...

QUOTE
For all you know the very owner of this site could be catholic...ever think of that??

why does it matter? i didn't insult the Catholic faith... i referred to a historical event...

QUOTE
If popes have dont this...then they where so wrong...but like the jewish people hitler gassed them one of the resons was for condemming chrsit...meaning the jews around the time of chrsit...hence the modern jews of hitlers time had to pay the price

well, a few Popes did kill people for reading the Bible and wanting to follow what it said and not the laws and traditions sanctioned by the Church... as far as Hitler and the Jews... the problem with that school of thought that you presented is that the first Christians were Jewish... and not ALL of the Jews wanted Him dead... it was mostly the doing of religius leaders, Phrasees and Sadusees...

i don't think any group of people should be judged on the actions of a few...

QUOTE
I once saw priests interferring with lilboys as SICK...when i said it was SICK...I made apoint in saying...what they did was sick...and its unfair that the catholic church gets the blame when its not in their faith to do this...just because a few priests did sick twisted acts....

and you are correct in feeling the way you do about that... the whole Church shouldn't get the blame for the actions of a few...

QUOTE
I come from a catholic family was raised one...where I come from catholics are shot in the head for just being catholics...any wonder I take a stand??

it is one thing to take a stand... but another to get over defensive when someone is talking about a major part of world history... again... i never insulted the whole religion... i just said that the actions of a few men were indeed evil...

Well, I doubt very much that it's a load of pillars. blink.gif

But to be honest... all this stuff about pillars and foundations... does it have to be literal? A Christian is going to have to correct me here, because I am going to suggest something that might be in contradiction to Christian beliefs... but isn't the whole pillars and foundations thing perhaps not meant literally? I mean, I sometimes say "I was shaken to the core", but I'm not the earth or an apple. If you were, in the capacity of one attempting to write a statement that demontrated an effect, trying to explain that God shook the world, is it that far fetched to suggest that the earth was shaken to its very foundations? It doesn't mean anyone dug out a hole, put in foundations, and then built the world on top.

I'm not a Christian, but I am a bit on the creative side... and I'd play with the words to cause the desired effect. yes.gif

Or do Christians read it literally?

you could be ABSOLUTELY right... it was probably a figure of speech in their time... just like you pointed out... "i was shaken to the core" or "you broke my heart"... we know hearts don't break

because there is a verse in Isaiah 26:7 that says that the earth isn't resting on anything...

so it does make sense that it's more of a figure of speech than a literal observations...
