Full Version: Painting a perfect picture of good chrsitian

Please note, when I say SOME I only mean a few odd people...this does NOT mean ALL

It amazes me when i see some people paint a wonderful picture of them being such a great chrsitian, yet when I read what SOME (meaning NOT ALL)..of what these people have to say about their faith and about their bible. I read a lot of these posts, and then I read other posts from these same folks elsewhere, and thats when I see a totally different side to them...admitting to doing such acts that they would jump on to a non christian and claim that those same acts are SO WRONG, and believe they have a right to preach to others about what sin really is..and yet they do it themselves ..A LOT

I now find it hard to believe that these same people are true chrsitians...however they want us to see them that way..painting the picture is so easy...but then so is being a hypocrite

How many of you would preach about their loving bible..and get at some people for ie - having sex outside of a marriage.......then admit somewhere else you have sex all the time with different people.....then you logg back into this board, and claim its so WRONG, making others feel off for doing it too

Some would think it's ok to mock another faith, as long as no one mocks theirs, all is good with the world

If you want people to believe you are a true chrsitian, through and hrough.........then don't be the hypocrite, throwing stones at glass houses, when you are in one yourself

What's the point in following a bible, preaching it to others..if you don't follow what that bible says about sin yourself?? Whats the point??

However I do know there are a few here that do follow it the best way they know how, and they dont paint a pic of a hypocrite ...that to me is a real christian

What you see of me is what you get, I wont sit painting perfect pictures of myself as perfect....I don't see the point in it

USING THE GOOD NAME OF JESUS TO CLEAR YOU how wrong it is..taking him for granted!!!

Do you think that if you commit sins from the bible..if you keep saying sorry to Jesus, and ask for forgiveness....do you think thats it, it's ok now..and off you go again committing the same sins...what makes you think that Jesus can't see through this?? Using his name to clear you each time you commit what is sinful..surely he can see right through it all and say - TOUGH ON YOU...you use my good name to clear your sins...thats disrespectful of you

It's unfair to use Jesus's name each time you know fine well you are going to sin again and again and again.........I may not believe in Jesus..but I don't like it when SOME use the mans name as an escape goat..1 ....2....3 ...IM FREE WHEEEEEEEEE...*next day at it with the sins again* don't worry Jesus will forgive me innocent.gif I shinned my halo up real propper this time ...see??

Good post Luv, it's kinda like in the military... we had the saying - "Do as I say, not as I do"...that only worked once and after that the recruits did as they pleased. yes.gif

Thanks Mako....I know it seems like a whole ..do as I say, but go to hell if you do what I do

Coming from the Catholic faith...I recall how preists used to banter on about what is SIN..they hit hard on gays...and how people if they do not follow Jesus..will go to hell

then a news report come on..and presto a few preists have interfered with lil boys WTF?? I might respect the church but i hold NO respect for preists that do this sort of thing, and im glad they where caught out...sick mofo's blink.gif

good thread Sis....I agree being a christian doesn't seem to guarentee great behaviors, I have seen scriptures be used to suit ones adgenda.....I have great questions as to how its benefical to one to think of themselves as sinful and flawed and worthless, then to spen a lifetime tryingot be 'good' as if its not natural to the human .... As a mother the last way that i would teach is that my child is flawed or encourage him to think of himself as sinful just because someone has said this book says so....I can't help but wonder if my parents for instance have so many problems because of this teaching..To the point its dibilitating to them...My dad actually introduces himself to people as a sinner , my mom is an insecure wreck.....I feel alot of emphathy for them and focus on accentuating their positive, even the kids try to build up their self esteems...... I really wonder if religon isn't more damaging then good??? I often just hug my parents jsut to let them know its all gonna be okay..they have such fears....Really sad...

I couldn't agree with you more.

Hypocrite for some people is the word, they throw the first stone even though they have done something similar to the person they are throwing the stone at. They are quick to judge and just as quick to ask for forgiveness.

I did say in another thread that God probably has unlimited patience, but I don't think it's passport to taking the mickey.

laugh.gif laugh.gif I'm seriously laughing so hard I can't type LMAO!!

But, I do have to agree with you. There are many "Christians" that I have gone to church with that are the same way. Great topic...I can't wait to see where this one goes! thumbsup.gif

good post Becky... (i know that's not your name... lol)

i agree with a lot of what you said... not all...

i personally try to avoid falling into the category of what you just said... that's why i tend to only stick my nose into debates on interpretation and context of the bible... maybe a little science and history...

as you already know from a few PMs... i have a few weaknesses... women... being one... so i tend to try to not tell people that they are going to hell for certain actions... because from what i recall from the Bible...

there are only 2 unforgivable sins...

other than that... God pretty much forgives everything... as long as you sincerely repent... and not just do it because it makes you feel good... and then you turn around and do it again... like you stated already...

good post... thumbup.gif

BM, I agree with a lot of what you're saying. People who do things like that are hypocrites. Now having said that I would like to remind you that Christians do not believe they are perfect, in fact, they admit they are not and expect to continue to commit sins for the rest of their lives; although they should be allowing the Holy Spirit to work in their hearts so they will not continue to fall into the same sins.

Christians also believe that although God does see into our hearts and also sees what we do, He expects us to confess our sins, this is more for us to realize that we are sinning, and to repent of them and not commit them again. But He also knows as humans we will continue to sin and we will continue to fall for the same temptations, that is why when we accept Christ He forgives ALL of our sins--all the ones we have committed to that point and all the ones we will commit.

My mum had a Catholic friend who used to do all manner of naughty stuff and then go and confess... it was like she had a "get out of jail" card for everything. But I don't think she actually understood that she was actually supposed to be sorry, not just say she was... that she was supposed to try to do better.

The most debauched group of people I ever met were "born again Christians"... not that I'm assuming that all born again Christians are debauched, just this lot were. I'm sure that, unlike my mum's friend, they did know what they were doing was not right according to their faith, but they went ahead all the same... then condemned me for having sex whilst unmarried. I married the man I was sleeping with, have been with him since that time... they've all gone through numerous partners... married, separated, slept with each other's brothers and sisters, had children left right and centre. Thy are the very personification of a lot of what is condemned in the Bible... but you should see them at a church meeting, singing about their love for Jesus. rolleyes.gif

Personally, I'm dyin to know which "some" you're referring to! tongue.gif The part about saying something somewhere else, then logging back onto these forums, is the little tease part that got my attention first off. Psst, PM if you're naughty! I'll never tell, but I'd love to know. Just sayin. laugh.gif

I mentioned before somewhere else, that I have a friend that loves christ but isn't by the book christian in any way. They say if one thinks to aspire to be like unto jesus, or looks up to jesus, they haven't gotten the whole message of what it means to be one with christ consciousness. Be the love. Don't speak the love, as it were. And in that regard, I think that's why hypocrite is possible. It's one thing to say, I believe in jesus. It's another to be what jesus said was intimately personal and unique to each one of us, as those that were already like jesus, when he said the kingdom of heaven is within. Jesus didn't come to start a religion. He came to destroy religion. So when those hypocrites you speak of show their colors, I think of my friend that said there's a difference between calling ones self a christian and living the spirit that makes christian more than a name.

lord this really upsets me. mainly because it gives christains a bad name, which as far as i can gather on here they already have. but what really gets me is that there are people out there that dont really know which way to go and kinda follow what the christains are saying and what happens. they see this happen and they say well i dont want that if that is what i will become. there are alot of them out there but please dont think that is what being a christain is all about because its not. i had this happen to me just last night on this site. someone who i thought was a christain and found out he was doing something that i think the lord would not be happy with. it really bothered me. but i have to remember that i cant see in his heart and that it is my op as to what he sees as wrong. people like that will get theirs if they are only playing religion.

Of all the Christians I've met, the most truly Christian of them is a gentleman (in every sense of the word) who was an army chaplain in the second world war. He is humble, kind, respectful, honest, decent, lawful, courageous, generous, tolerant, and just downright wonderful. He is truly filled with love for God and for his fellow man, and it shines from him. He doesn't speak about religion very much, and he says very little when he does. He doesn't need to tell people what faith he is, he doesn't need to label himself and shout about it to convince people that he has faith. He simply is a Christian. Unfortunately, I have never met another man like him.

nothing is unforgiveable to God. otherwise it wouldn't be God , but a man made idea.

and as for priests. chaplins ect ..... I adore my grandmothers priest that comes to the house every first friday of the month.

he is an excellent man , caring , warm and thoughtful.

we believe differently , but we both accept each other. He doesn't push Jesus on me , I don't goad him with Unitarian/Universalists ideals like God accepts all into 'heaven' Jesus or no Jesus.

his fellow priest however can't say the same - would miss 2 months in a row and say he called twice and someone told him she was sent to a home ( I'm the only one who answers the phone since gran is basically deaf - ) once he tried to say he called but no one answered. I have an answering machine that picks up on the 3rd ring. and yes he repeated the number and has the right one ( of course I gave him my two cents about him not showing up. it's sad to see my gran get all dressed up , wait looking out the window for 2 hours and he not show up.)
Then - my grandmother gives 200. a month to the church. (ugh!) she would give this money to him ( I've seen her and remarked to him myself it was church donation) . now quarterly the church paper lists donations given yet hers were never on there. he never recorded them. ( to an old woman , having your name in the paper means alot.) he just claimed he didn't know. saying he handed them the money and told them who it was from. He is Mr. Excuse - anybody but him is to blame.
he is the 'pop' star priest - young , good looking. heading 500.$ a plate dinners and roasts which were covered by the media. he loves the limelight ( no longer does he care for his flock so to speak. he doesn't do house to house for the infirm anymore. he can't be bothered , it may bite into his weekly radio hour.) so much for being a servant of God. can you tell I don't like this man?

That is sad, very sad. To know someone is waiting for your visit with so much anticipation. A career Christian... my sister met one like that when she went to the church for guidance for the first time after moving to a new town... never met the man before and he was so cold, had so little time, and made no effort to help her. All she wanted was reassurance and comfort after our grandfather passed away. He just didn't have the time for her. He had a nice dress though... very clean and smart... and polished shoes and a perfectly coiffed head of hair. And he always made sure the church silver was polished to death by his team of ladies... his obedient harem. There wasn't a spot of dust in his church... always fresh flowers there. His priorities could have done with a bit of a tweaking.

I agree with you IAMS..... yes.gif ....I just hate to see some people USE the name of Jesus..as an escape goat, to excuse them for all their wrong doings...I may not follow Jesus myself..but I do understand that he is seen as a God to you all...and I know I MUST respect that...just like the bible, I dont care for it..but I sure would NOT throw it in the trash or burn it..I feel If I did that, what goes around, comes around..if you get my drift

And YES IAMS lol I most well aware that not all chrsitians are like that..that is WHY, I made a clear statement at the top of the thread to say so...

It's just a shame that SOME would do this...painting the wrong picture...and jumping all over those, who are non chrsitian for what they call sin....then turn around and think it's OK to do it themselves

No one is perfect...but it dont give people the right to look down at others, just because they stick a lable on themselves calling themselves chrsitians..coming on line throwing out bible verses all over the joint..then you see them else where, bragging about some sinful doings that they have done.........

I say, if you know you are a sinner, and you know it's hard to stop...then dont preach to others what sin is, telling them, they will go to hell....that to me don't sound right, because if there is a place called hell...then you too will be joining the one you look down on...for using the good name of Jesus to justify your actions...so not right

But you must note that I DID make a clear point in saying...there are some good chrsitians on the boards ect...pity the others wouldnt take a leaf out of their book....

I'm glad you noticed this IAMS yourself..now you can see where I am coming from...and how some people will just USE the chrsitian name and USE the name of your Jesus..to let them off the hook, every time they sin..................If Jesus is real..he is watching them...and most likely thinking..tough on you...I am not here for your amusement no.gif Cuz it's very much disrespectful towards your religious faith and your saviour

TY IAMS

Another thing that gets my gaot up...is when one chrsitian comes on saying he/she is a true chrsitan..and tells a few other chrsitians they arent true chrsitians..WTF??

As far as I am concerned..if you follow Jesus the best way you see fit and you are proud of it..........then you are a true chrsitian...through and through...

IAMS I have seen people use the chrsitian belief..use it, pretending to be a chrsitian to take a stab at the other side.........so disrespectful towards the faith...but thankfully they are gone now

I dont think it's right to USE a religious faith as some kind of weapon..shame on anyone that does this...

Ok im done now unsure.gif
