i have been thinking alot about this lately. we are so devided on politics and religion, but when you get down to it we are all in the same ballgame. is there anything that we in this forum, the believers and non-believers agree on when it comes to religion. i agree with the non-believers that there are alot of things about religion that doesnt make sense. that the ot was a violent time and that god had alot of people killed. why i dont know. i agree that some christains try to cram it down you throat and act holier than thou. ever to other christains. i was just wondering. thanks

There are lots of things we all agree on. For instance we all agree that:
1. It's good to have a sense of humor.
2. People can do horrible things to each other and it makes the world a messed up place (the cause becomes a point of contention).
3. It doesn't have to be this way(how to make it better usually becomes a point of contention).
4. That I should be made supreme ruler of the world.

Ok maybe not that last one.

The only way others will agree with others is when their opinion on the matter discussed is similar or the same. But since everyone is different and unique, everyone will have their own opinion even if it is similar to anothers. What would be the point of debate if everyone debating agreed with one another?

i see nothing wrong with that last one. maybe you can put it all together for us.

There is like I stated but we still have that personal touch and ideal that makes it different. If the idea is even taught we as individuals still have our own insite on idea or lesson. Even with the similarities Rev. R pointed out, everyone still has their own ideas and thoughts or even rules on how such should be. Yes everyone likes jokes for example but some like dirty jokes and others not and some like knock knock jokes and some do not. Everyone likes humor and jokes but not all the same types or even the same joke or humor. And then there are still some who dont like humor. One may agree with another to an extent but when lines are crossed and similarities change, agreement changes to disagreement.

we have to not only agree to disagree , but realise no one has the total truth. herein lies the problem. people really don't care what you believe so long as they ( insert religion or political leaning here) can feel that they and only they are right and the rest 'just don't get it'. This is why people preach . this is why people fight. I'm right and your wrong, no your wrong and I'm right. both are wrong and both are right .

are people who believe in Jesus wrong? no. if one needs a messiah/saviour in order to help thier faith / get to heaven why should that be a bad thing?

are people who don't believe in Jesus wrong ? no . they don't feel the need for 3rd party to get to heaven.

is one wrong and one right exclusively? no. will they claim they are ? of course. and that is the problem , because as many times as you claim you are the only and right way does not make it so. no book or saying or vision makes it so.

No one knows the truth of it all. no one ever has and no one ever will. Once we die and do know all this is irrelevant. It may be to some surprise that the christian extreamist republican finds themselves in 'heaven' next to an Islamic extreamist both having realized the absurdity of the arguement .

It is one thing to express a personal opinion and present it for discussion, to explain your own belief system and state that it is right for you. But to insist that it is the right way for everyone else... indeed, the only way... well how on earth could any of us know that?

What does it get you to insist that your beliefs are right... not right for you, but just plain right? That's arrogance, intolerance and vanity at work.

Jesus has no place in my life... but I accept that he does in the lives of so many other people, and that it brings comfort and joy to those people. I would never want to influence a Christian to turn from Christ, if that relationship brought them happiness. I do not want atheists to find God. Why would I?
