I'm fairly new here,so I hope I'm posting in the right department.

Yesterday evening, around 6:00 PM, my 18 year old son was outside mowing the lawn. There were low, dark clouds overhead and the air was warm and humid. He came into the house and asked me if I had seen the big plane that had just gone over the house. He said he looked up, while mowing, and saw this HUGE plane coming across our field. He said it was extremely low, beneath the clouds, and moving very slowly towards the house. For some reason, he said it freaked him out.

His description of the plane was: it was a dark grey color, military-looking, no markings, very bulky, very old-looking, it had two propellors on the front of the wings, an anteana on the nose of the plane, two small windows on the side of the plane he could see, and the wings did not come straight out of the plane, but rather angled up, next to the body of the plane, then went out. As it became nearer, he said he started to feel uneasy. He wondered why a plane, moving that slowly, and low was not making any sound. He switched off the mower and to his amazement, the plane glided over, completely soundless. He could hear all of the usual outside noises, but the plane didn't make a sound.

He said he felt frozen until the plane eventually went out of sight behind a row of trees.

My husband was outside working on a vending trailer, but didn't hear anything. As he was inside the trailer, he didn't see anything either. I was in the kitchen preparing dinner and I had the windows open, as it was warm outside, and I never heard anything. Usually if a plane goes over our house that low, the windows will rattle, but I never heard anything.

He was so disturbed by what he saw, and didn't hear, that he came in the house and got on the internet and starting googling aircraft. He never found and picture of anything like he saw.

Maybe someone out there could give us some feedback on this. Why would the plane be completely soundless? And what kind of plane would it be?

Thanks.

It could be a military black project. It could be a ghost plane. Or, perhaps your son was just seeing things.

the military has a lot of equipment we don't know about...i know that they are able to us mufflers so that motorized equipment can be used with almost no noise at all...the plane could also have been gliding with the engines off (many planes are able to do this for short periods of time)...then again, who can tell for sure?...a lot of strange things happen in this old world...you may have seen one of them...tell your son to keep looking...

I saw once a fighter plane hovering, I didnt hear anything as i was traveling with car. It was hovering over a house at a very low altitude. I saw it little later again flying very slowly. And when it was picking up speed then i could hear the engine. This craft did not have any propellors but was old looking with dark grey color. I guess this craft didnt make much of a noice while hovering since it was doing it above a house.

Were the propellers rotating?

I've seen it too. But not that close. I saw a grey colored plane farther up in the sky that made no noise and left no smoke. I tried to get a picture of it but was to late (Of course)

We live in Winder, Georgia. None of the photos look like what he saw. But, thanks for the link, I'll check it out later. Glad to hear he wasn't the only one to experience something like this.

Interesting, but could be anything. Also, keep in mind that planes often appear to make little sound at all due to certain weather conditions. Thunderstorms in the area create wind streams and flows that can "pull" sound or funnel it in odd ways. So a plane far away can be noisy as heck, but in the other direction but same distance seem silent. I would keep googling aircraft, and have him look up whatever branch of the military has a base in that area. Odds are in Ga. there are few within a few hundred miles.
