Alien abductees and psychics often claim that street lights go on or off when they walk by. This happens to me all the time, but I'm an abductee so I would say that.
I want to know if people with no extraordinary claims have this happen to them as well. Is it a red herring issue? Is it just that we're on the lookout for anything strange and once we notice something like this, we see it happen all the time and figure it has to do with us?
I tend to think that's the case, but I'm putting it to you: Do you nonabductees/nonpsychics notice this? If not, when you're walking around at night, see if you do notice it and report back so we can at least put this one small issue to rest.

Go on or off? YOu mean like it changes to green when your car rolls up cause that would be awesome! Or do you mean like it actually just malnfunctioning and cutting it off? I've never noticed anything strage like that though, I havn't been looking.

This happens to me on almost every day. I've never been Abducted or a Psychic. As I approach the street light it dims and winks out. As I get a little way past it flicks back on again. Yet not always the same light. Sometimes days go past when nothing happens.
Once walking down the road with a friend, almost all the light went off as I walked past. They thought it was well freaky.
But by far the strangest was when I sneezed once, and the whole street I was walking down winked out. lol. But true.

I meant street lamps, like at night. Not stop lights--though that would be more interesting if those stopped working.

i always thought is was weird, but never tried to figure out why...
i was never abducted... and i don't believe i'm a psychic although i do sometimes see things before they happen...

Yeah.
A couple of weeks ago I was walking home alone across an open field at night time, which has three streelights placed along a footpath going through the middle. I was walking from the side, so I only walked below the middle light, but it turned off when I was just about 2 metres away from it, the other two stayed on. It also happened one other time at another place not long before that.
Does it mean I have any special 'powers' or have been abducted? No.

I always find it odd that security lights seem to go out when I approach them more times than not. You're a security light! Do your job!
Maybe they are on timers, these lights, so as to conserve the bulb?

Not sure about being abducted. Specially if all I got out of it was the ability to dim light bulbs! And my psychic powers are on the same level as say a house brick.

I have never had street lights go on or off when I walk by, but, I have experienced something with some traffic signals that I find odd. It happens only at night, and only, it seems when I am driving (I have never noticed it at any other time). The green or red lights of traffic signals ahead of me will seem to dissapear and be replaced by a sort of black dot that remains in the center of where the light was (there will be a "corona" of whatever color the light was around this black). I have had this happen to me many times over the years and so far, haven't found a resonable explanation for it. I have had my eyes checked, and while my vision is a little unusual, no problems were found.
Any ideas anyone?
Good Journey.

I'm sorry to be the skeptic for a change but if something like this was really happening so frequently, woulnd't someone have proven it. Let's say it is related to being an abductee/pshychic. Let's say the reason lights go out is because the aliens made your bodies EM field stronger to study it easier and being a psychic you just have a stronger EM field to begin with. If that's the case it would be very easy to prove. Not to mention, Why not prove it? It would certainly help abductees and psychics[I just realized I have no idea how to spell psychics, I hope I got that right] get a little bit of credibility. Now there are only a few things that can manipulate an electric field, and our subjects could be tested for all of them. But even if it turned out that he had none of them, you could still prove that there is an unknown phenomenon at work. Set up some lamps in a room in grid formation. Make it direct current make it alternating or whatever else they may have come up with. Make them weaker make them stronger but by doing this it would be easy to prove or disprove this phenomenon. Now the reason I went through all of that was just for the sake of proving that if this was a real thing, we would know about it. And Quetzocatle would return as is described in the book Return of Quetzocatle and we would enter an age of mysticism and pshychics.

Jeremiah:
That's why I started this thread--in an attempt to flesh out whether this is really an EM affect or just something street lights do. I agree--it's such a simple thing to figure out and yet to my knowledge no one has. I'm not about to pour research dollars into this so the message board will have to do.

Ok, well I know no one here can pour money into this. If you claim to be an abductee or pshychic and have had this happen to you. Go up to a random street light and go back and forth for a while. Videotape it if you have a camera and put it on this site.

I think that what you are experienceing is nothing more fantastical than streetlights being on a timer, or flourescent bulbs overheating and triping a safety switch that allows them to come back on once they have cooled. Most cities, in an effort to conserve energy, have their streetlights on timers which allows one light to go out as others are coming on. When this happens to occur as you are walking by it may seem like you have a magiacl effect on the light, but consider this, most steetlights are approx. 15 - 20 feet overhead. It would take some kind of intereference to make the light go out. If you are the cause of that streetlight to go out, you should be affecting alot more than just streelights you walk under, you would be making every electronic appliance go haywire in your home, school, and house you would walk by.
Streetlights turn on and off on a regular basis regardless of whether or not someone is walking under them, it just goes unoticed for the most part until it happens as you are walking by making it a coincidence not physcic ability, afteraffects of an abduction, or having high EMF radiating from your body.

It's happened to me.. as well when i'm driving.. the lights will go out as I approach or go under.. I've read that it's just the light reflecting back up to the light-post's sensor making it go off because the sensor is designed to stay off while it is daylight. So this reflection of light fools the sensor into thinking it's daytime. Happens to a lot of people i'm sure.

I once was talking to a voice in my head, " i said, can you give me a proof that you're existing?"
"The Voice said" raise your hand and point to the light, i did it and the light turn on, but my wife
is the one that flicked the switch at the right exact time i pointed it.

The street light thing happens to every one nothing strange about it. When they get hot they shut off then they cool down and come back on. It is the nature of those types of gas lights.

Obsidian is spot on. That settles it. Also, if ur EM field had been modified then it would definately affect more than streetlights. What about everyday objects ? A lamp, your TV,your toaster. Your credit card shpuld have conked out by now. Thats certainly gonna have a more telling effect than a atreetlight !

1.when i turned 18 2 years ago i was hangin with my friends and someone threw a beer bottle out their car window and broke at our feet i turned and i started yelling but as soon as the sound came out of my voice the street lamp exploded into sparks, it was very strange
second incident happened 2 weeks ago, i was playing some Soccer with my dad and i saw the girl i have been in love with since Sophomore year drive by and i went to say hi and the lamp post that lights up my dads driveway Exploded into glass and sparks and we went to see what hit it but we couldn't find anything

Sometimes street lamps will go off when I go by them or some that were already off will turn on. I would associate many things to the remembering unusual occurences or to selective memory, but there's one street lamp I go by almost every night and it will do this. Before I noticed this particular street lamp, all the other ones were random and I attributed this phenomena to selective memory.
One thing to do is try to remember what you were thinking or how you were feeling right before the noticing the occurence. You might start to pick up a pattern and may no longer consider this a random event.

out of curiosity have you checked to see if you might have an implant? there was a report by a doctor who removed them that noted the implant was producing a em signal before it was removed. i know it might sound nuts ,but who knows? its an idea.
