Does anyone know the name of the theory that states that somewhere in the world there is a twin for every person?

And what do all of you think about that?
thefirstman
They are dumb tales, thats my opinion.Sorry but i think the idea is proposterous.
Btw,welcome to the forum thumbsup.gif
Lady Sabrina
I dunno the name of the theory, but I do know when I was younger people were always mistaking me for a girl named Brenda... huh.gif So who know's... original.gif

what like a Doppleganger?
sarkypi
Are the doppelganger's evil? If so, why is there a race of evil beings around? What purpose would it serve.
Socol
No not a doppelganger, it's a different person but looks just like you; i forgot the name of the guy who created the theory.
sarkypi
disgust.gif You mean like a scientific explanation to dismiss Doppelganger?

Interbreeding, perhaps huh.gif

only 4 every1 that isn't a twin that is.

I don't think there's anybody out there who look like me....it would be too frightening. wacko.gif

I know there is a William Shatner lookalike out there (on the film Trekkies) which is so much like him that it's not funny. Tom Cruise has a lookalike who looked so much like him (and a lot taller, but much to Cruise' chagrin) that he has to dodge mistaken fans.

I think in some cases there will be a resemblance, but not an exact lookalike.

A couple of weeks ago I met a girl at my school who stopped me in the hallway and started talking to me as if she knew me. I asked her who she was and she was embarrassed that she had mistaken me for her sister's roommate. Apparently we could be twins. I haven't seen her again. She was probably just confused, though.
kreestar
That's something interesting to think about, but I don't know if it's true. Hopefully for their sake there is not some one who looks just like me. Wouldn' that mean that their parents would look similar?

4 those who r twins, r there actually really an evil twin between the 2?
Bright Eyes
There's a documentary on next week about a boy who was born with his twin growing inside him, unnoticed until he was seven!!!! How could that be?! Growing like a parasite. blink.gif

lol...it's an interesting theory, but somehow I don't think so...everything we inherit in our genetic makeup comes from our parents. In order for someone to be genetically identical to you, they would have to have recieved the exact same material from their parents...

So, unless whoever made this theory is proposing that your mother's egg, and your father's sperm just...flew across the length of the world and arranged to meet up in the uterus of some unknowing women then...nah huh.gif
DarkShade
There's only so many ways a face can look, even in the realm of the infinite, near copies have to happen every once and a while. Lowercase L's look like 1's and I's (in certain fonts anyway, but we still distinguish).
FireFrog
Some interesting theories here,
I especially liked the way you gave an example of your theory DarkShade (the whole L thing)...

Perhaps we all do have a twin, but suppose our twin will be created / lives in a different era to you... Perhaps for instance somebodies twin could suddenly be brought into the world many years after the "original" has passed on?

Of course its just another wild theory and I don't know what it proves but thought I might just come out and say it tongue.gif

dontgetit.gif I think the term may be time twins. I remember reading that one of the old Kings of England had an identical double who was born at the same time and died at the same time, but was born to different parents. Dont know if this was supposed to be true, but the phenomenon in this case was called time twins.
I think that throughout the course of history maybe some peoples genetic makeup may have been replicated at some point though... wacko.gif
Nxt2Hvn
I have been mistaken for several people and I am always being told ... "you look like - so and so"

I must have lots of twins out there!! LOL blink.gif

So I don't know... and I don't really have an opinion on the subject!

Oh Well! dontgetit.gif

Not quite true that if someone looks like you they inherit the same kind of genes. Physical appearances, particularly around the face area takes up such a very minute amount of genes from our entire genetic code.

I suppose there are people today who would look like people who had lived in the past. Given the trends of hairstyle, dress, and other factors, it is less obvious.

I think it is possible. Anyone heard about 2 girls who share the same names (both first and last names), have the same pet rabbit, and many other things that are quite the same.

I had seen this on TV, true story, i think it was on Ripley's Believe it or not.

Anyways, one girl told his grandfather that she would place a message in balloon, giving her name and i think her location, and let it drift in wind.

Later on, the second girl had found a balloon with a message in it. She opened the balloon and read the message, to her surprise the message had a name that was exactly the same as hers. How could this be if this girl hadn't written it in the first place. It was the name of the first girl who had written this message and sent it.
The second had either told her father or her grandfather, whichever he was, this person did not believe her that she had recieved a message from a person who had exactly the same name as her.

The video on this goes further into detail. I think this occured in Europe. If you had watched the show, I'm sure you'd believe me. Also, both girls parents had married in the same year (If my memory is correct).

Sounds like synchronicity to me. There's that quite famous story, I can't remember the details and it's probably a variation on a theme, about two friends who haven't seen each other for years. One stays in a foreign hotel room and leaves his watch behind by accident. His friend checks in the hotel the next day and finds it, purely by coincidence.

I spoke to this guy once as well, he was an American pilot based in Japan who hadn't been in contact with his son for 20 years. Anyway, they bumped into each other at the train station, I think the son recognised his dad. The son was in the Navy I think. Quite mind boggling really.

Back to the thread topic, no I don't think there is a twin for everyone. I look like a lot of people, but if we were side by side there would be a massive difference.
fulltimekiller
there maybe some just look like you but i dont thinks its a twin. twin born DNA are the same if you run into someone that just looks like you then its there physical apperance are the same but the DNA will be different. everyone has at least the least same characteristic to other people it just a coincident that you and the person you run into has nearly the same characteristic to you and the run into person

Ripleys is hosted by Craig Charles for G*ds sake, how can it be true if it's on Ripleys?
