Religion is the most important thing in a person’s life. If electric trains are the most pervasive thing in one’s life, that is his religion. Anything can be a religion if it means a lot. If your present religion isn’t the most important thing in your life, then skip it. Find whatever impels you most and make that your religion.
Religions are easy to invent. Most traditional religions have little or nothing to do with reality, are dependent on obfuscation, interpretation, guilt, and unreasoning faith—some more than others. Since Satanism is essentially a religion of the self, it holds that the individual and his personal needs comes first. If that means playing with trains or spike-heeled shoes or singing in the bathtub, those are its sacraments and devotions. Taking inventory of old comic books is counting beads on a rosary, each book being a station of the cross.
Before I codified Satanism, thus enabling me to integrate everything of a personal meaning into a suitable forum, I first considered the religion of Dogism. The belief system made sense, but was too limiting. Dogism holds that if you can’t eat it, and you can’t **** it; piss on it. Much as I respect dogs and their gods, I could relate more to Catism, the principle religion of cats. The Five Commandments of Catism are:
(1) Don’t run, if you can walk.
(2) Don’t walk, if you can stand.
(3) Don’t stand, if you can sit.
(4) Don’t sit, if you can lie down, and
(5) Don’t stay awake, if you can take a nap.
Catism counsels: “He who sleeps the day away / lives to sleep another day,” or, “Respect the friend who brings your food, for he has been your choice / Or go and catch it for yourself, and have a louder voice,” and other such homilies.
Freud’s “pleasure principle” should be known to be the highest motivator for any religion. The significance of any fetish is a yardstick for its priority. When a fetish transcends all else, including survival needs, religious fanaticism is the result. When the audio equipment takes priority over the music, the way the music sounds is more important than the sound of the music. The act of falling in love can be more important than one’s choice of a mate. If the size of a screen is more important than what’s on it and the latest hardware and software eclipses the quality of the product entered—fetishism is the result.
All activity that consumes, therefore, should be recognized as being both religious and fetishistic. A Satanist whose hobby or fetish is Satanism per se, is no more of a Satanist than one who, realizing the indulgence advocated by Satanism, accepts the Name. The difference between the man or woman who’s a practicing Satanist, from an identity Satanist is that the practicing Satanist looks at the picture, while the identity Satanist studies the frame.

In reality and practice, by their consuming interest, they reveal their true religion to be—the Church of Satan. Otherwise, they would turn on their heel, walk away, and refuse to subject themselves to that which they need not. Clearly, they need us. We don’t need them.
Never underestimate the sexual corollaries to fetishism/religion. It’s too easy (and convenient) to dismiss covert arousal. Just as there have been foot fetishists who work in shoe stores, there are masturbationist writers and artists who have nothing to say and write nothing worth reading. Their output amounts to one stroke or rub per line of type, using their typewriters or computers as sex toys. This can lead to sexual dependency upon the computer. Far-fetched? Things have changed since monks illuminated manuscripts and suffered ecstasies.
Varieties of religious experience can be as interesting as varieties of fetishism. Though there may be many kinds, overall, each disciple has his or her rigid set of preferred and obligatory devotions. Each has personal words of power as a result of distillation. All roads lead to Rome for the serious practitioner. It is Spare’s principle of reduction, Pavlov’s bell. The devout Catholic crosses himself and murmurs “Saints preserve us.” The Pentecostal shouts “Hallelujah!” The Jew says “Mazeltov.” A more potent manifestation is possible, when one considers the true nature of religion. They might instead say: “I need a drink,” “My niece with the fine ass...,” “Is she a disciplinarian?” Every fetishist/religionist has sacred buzzwords: “tickle,” “Cherry ’65 Mustang,” “stinky socks,” and millions more. Sexual fetishes are probably the most epicurean preference of the human animal. The smallest detail is of great significance and there is little margin for error. In fact, there is less room for deviance in deviance, than in any other human endeavor.
If certain words and phrases keep reappearing, it’s because they're never tiresome, always fresh. Uncle Louies favorite musical composition may be the same old tune to others, but to Uncle Louie, it improves with age - which is more than can be said for Uncle Louie. It is his Ave Maria.
Satanism is the only religion which serves to encourage and enhance one’s individual preferences, so long as there is admission of those needs. Thus, one’s personal and indelible religion (the picture) is integrated into a perfect frame. It’s a celebration of individuality without hypocrisy, of solidarity without mindlessness, of objective subjectivity. There need be no deviation from these principles. They should summarily negate internecine strife and bickering. Any attempts at Satanic “reformation” should be seen for what they are: creating problems where none exist. There should be no place in any religion for reformers whose very religion is the fetish of reformation. There is even a place and title for compulsive dissidents, and if they can wear the mantle, they are welcome. They would delude themselves to be revolutionaries. In our camp, they are called “House Masochists.”

I find this bit interesting. I've read the whole lot a few times over though... for some reason it went in one eye and out of the other at first.
From my reading Anton L. was quite a character. And I think he had the ego the size of Gibraltar, given he started a religion based on hedonistic philosophy, ensconced in the demagoguery of the fabled antithesis of the moral majority of this country. And timely! Given the age when the Church of Satan was incorporated as a church, he was right in with the social revolution against all things held sacred in the conservatives paradigm.
With respect to his take on satanism and fetishism, per that quote. I think the quote may be taken in context if one reads what he may be referring to when he speaks of, fetish.

But that they remain fixated, in deriving some sort of pleasure or satisfaction in denigrating an organization that continues unabated by that, is similar to the very peccadillo's that the church and AL's satanic philosophy exploited.

Yes... I think it was the word "fetish" that was throwing me off there... I conjured up images of men dressed as babies and ladies in leather boots.
I have often wondered what is to be gained by the obsessive belittling of another's beliefs. I have wanted to ask "what do you get from this? Why do you use your time to do this?". To question a person's beliefs is one thing, to dig around and explore another's religion (or lack of it) is one thing, but some do seem to derive some pleasure from making another look small because of their belief system (or anything else for that matter).

I think with respect to AL and the CoS, he instigated the attention and the criticisms, because it would at least appear as if he believed that old Hollywood adage about such things, wherein it is said, don't worry that they talk about you, worry when they stop. As many detractors as he garnered during his lifetime as the black pope, he thrived on the very attention he thought to illicit. It made him rich, though rumor has it he died far from.
What's interesting about the denigration aspect, is his own daughter turned against his legacy, after his passing in 1999. She didn't become christian, rather she forwarded her own brand of satanic thought while outing her dead father as a charlatan, a poor father and even at the extreme, an accomplice in pedophilia with one Michael Aquino, the high priest of the Temple of Set, and at one time an AL disciple.
So, while one may wonder if the satanic philosophy is pure self-gratification, why then didn't the daughter assault her father while he was living? Bring the fire to the fire, in public while one has a living adversary with which to do a battle? In that respect perhaps Anton had the foresight to know he'd be undone in the end, when it no longer mattered, and so he sought to effect his own brand of wizardry, by saying satanism feeds on the energy of adversity, while consuming it's enemies for their own expenditure of attentions, that actually enable the beast to thrive in it's own domain. While draining his detractors for the effort they make against a man that sought to illicit such stuff, to his own amusement and profit.
Nothing sells books faster than claiming aloud the author writes of evil stuff. Everyone wants to buy a copy and read to see what that is. It's like Prohibition. Never in it's history has it succeeded in evoking anything more intent than the antithesis; the criminal black market. So rather than strict conservatism, it enables moral compromise.

I took a look at the Satanic Bible, I wanted to see where Anton was coming from, and I wanted his address.
He had worked in a Carnival, Polishing Spittoons, (I would hate everyone also) He saw some of the same men at the Saturday night girly shows, that he saw at the Sunday Morning revival tent. And got his view of religion.
I wrote him about God, He never answered. Hopefully he read the letter, or someone there did.

Actually, that's an urban legend. His death certificate reads he died October 29, 1997 in St. Mary's Hospital, San Francisco of pulmonary edema. . This is part of the outing I mentioned by one of his daughters. I think I got it wrong myself, when I mentioned 1999, as the year he died.

If a satanist worships the antithesis, does one actually believe they never heard of god?
AL claimed to have been raised catholic. Yes, I think he knew of god. Then he decided to turn away and glory in his first born angel son, satan. And I have no doubt it brings you a great deal of satisfaction to imagine Anton now pays in your ideal of an afterlife, for living his life, contrary to your approval, while subject to your discriminations. But that doesn't mean it is so. It just means you enjoy holding faith that it is.
And if there is a broken down gate of some heaven, wherein attitude adjustment begins across the threshold, I'd wonder where Yahweh and all the other gods with attitude are, in line to enter?! So to clarify your understanding in this matter, are you speaking from a christian perspective? I don't believe I've ever heard a christian say all sin and judgment ended at Golgotha. Meaning all one need do is believe in jesus and their righteous and free of judgment and sin. Is that what you're saying? What After life? We do not die then live again, We just relocate. Jesus tasted death for us all. And He did not care for the taste of it at all.
Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies concerning Him:
Luke 18:31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
So one of them is Daniel’s prophecies for the 70 weeks, But Daniel also had a Vision of the Evening and Morning which were for many days, in this case the day as 70 weeks, as all had to be fulfilled.
Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
As this concerns Jesus, Jesus has to make an end of sins (He did, Past and present sins ended “With His stripes we are healed) Then Jesus takes Future sins to Golgotha (While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us)

The Verse has a SEAL, a Seal which kept the Disciples and Paul from seeing sin ended as accountable unto man. And Even Jesus had the Father sealed, Or Jesus did not see sin ended, But God’s word says it did in the prophecy.

This is the dualist belief that Satan, the Dark Lord, is the strongest supernatural being (of which there are at least 2). Satan is the true Lord, those who believe in him live a life that is true and more coherent than those who deny that he is the strongest.
Evil Satan as Victor
Truly fearsome is the belief that this strongest force is also the Evil component of a cosmic dualistic battle between Good and Evil. This belief is the most hated within Satanism and outside of Satanism, and is the equivalent of evil Christian Fundamentalism. The Dark Lord has to be revered, or, at the time when he manifests and conquers the Earth, all those who do not accept him will be killed. Simple as that... this belief is the diametrically opposite Satanic belief system to the Church of Satan.
Called "Black Sheep" within the Satanic community, adherents are normally considered rebellious Christians and young or stupid. But some adherents do not seem to fit this stereotype at all, there being old and young adherents both of whom have had no Christian upbringing to rebel against.

Satan therefore represents a struggle against tyranny and a fight against the brainwashed masses and the unthinking, cruel and punishing hordes of mankind that follow the Right Hand Path: The bloody path of God worship. God, as a powerful White-Light force, has tricked and deluded mankind into accepting its gospel truth, and to put it simply: The majority of mankind are too stupid, fearful, weak and sheep-like to ever realize that they are following the wrong god.
God can only use below the belt tactics to spread lies and corruption, spreading his monotheistic religions that have been the center of bloodshed and evil and using all his powers to trick humanity. However... such tricks only work on the sheep, the mindless hordes. Nevertheless, those who represent truth, the oppressed and alien elite, either face a life of being hidden outcasts and secret aliens in society, or face a difficult struggle against the foolish herds of man.
Satan is this context is most similar to Lucifer, who brings enlightenment and intelligence.
Fighting for truth is much harder than spreading lies, which is why the world remains (and will always remain) biased against the Left Hand Path: The infernal path of the intelligent, strong and those vital forces of life that prevent mankind from slipping into a permanent dark age. The Bible, The Koran, all white light institutions are signs of the stupidity and gullible nature of man, and all represent death, bloodshed and pallid incompetence. Most of man is washed away in lies, and the few prophets and upkeepers of the truth, are hated and feared.
The Righteous Satan style of thought also associates many non-mainstream groups as being a force for good, so that many groups are considered allies such as freethinkers, athiests, humanists, and members of most Left Hand Path groups. All these individuals are considered powerful and strong, and therefore feared by the weaker force of lies that is God's domain, as deceit is inherently weaker and more temporary than truth.
Sometimes, Jesus, Buddha and other spiritual people/myths are considered good, but that stupidity and lies (such as The Koran, The Holy Bible, the Christian Churches) have been propagated so much that we no longer know what their true messages were.

Called "Black Sheep" within the Satanic community, adherents are normally considered rebellious Christians and young or stupid. But some adherents do not seem to fit this stereotype at all, there being old and young adherents both of whom have had no Christian upbringing to rebel against.

But note that not all dualistic Satanists believe that Satan is the Evil component of a cosmic duality.
4. The powerful white light God is Evil
Satan is Righteous
A dominant theme in dualistic Satanic literature is the feeling that God and Satan are not what they appear to be. There is a strong belief in nearly all Satanic thought (except Evil Satan As Victor as above) that if Satan is real, then he is also not what White Light religions make him out to be.
Satan therefore represents a struggle against tyranny and a fight against the brainwashed masses and the unthinking, cruel and punishing hordes of mankind that follow the Right Hand Path: The bloody path of God worship. God, as a powerful White-Light force, has tricked and deluded mankind into accepting its gospel truth, and to put it simply: The majority of mankind are too stupid, fearful, weak and sheep-like to ever realize that they are following the wrong god.
God can only use below the belt tactics to spread lies and corruption, spreading his monotheistic religions that have been the center of bloodshed and evil and using all his powers to trick humanity. However... such tricks only work on the sheep, the mindless hordes. Nevertheless, those who represent truth, the oppressed and alien elite, either face a life of being hidden outcasts and secret aliens in society, or face a difficult struggle against the foolish herds of man.
Satan is this context is most similar to Lucifer, who brings enlightenment and intelligence.
Fighting for truth is much harder than spreading lies, which is why the world remains (and will always remain) biased against the Left Hand Path: The infernal path of the intelligent, strong and those vital forces of life that prevent mankind from slipping into a permanent dark age. The Bible, The Koran, all white light institutions are signs of the stupidity and gullible nature of man, and all represent death, bloodshed and pallid incompetence. Most of man is washed away in lies, and the few prophets and upkeepers of the truth, are hated and feared.
The Righteous Satan style of thought also associates many non-mainstream groups as being a force for good, so that many groups are considered allies such as freethinkers, athiests, humanists, and members of most Left Hand Path groups. All these individuals are considered powerful and strong, and therefore feared by the weaker force of lies that is God's domain, as deceit is inherently weaker and more temporary than truth.
Sometimes, Jesus, Buddha and other spiritual people/myths are considered good, but that stupidity and lies (such as The Koran, The Holy Bible, the Christian Churches) have been propagated so much that we no longer know what their true messages were.
Satan is the champion of the alienated

All sides, both the weak who were defenceless against Christian and Muslim numerical superiority, and the strong who monotheism cannot destroy... the Left Hand Path is beckoning. "

5. White Light causes imbalance and evil
A universal theme
"White light religions such as Christianity and Islam and any religion where the basic concept is "we represent the force of good" is inherently imbalanced [...] Accepting that all altruism is long term selifshness and that any good motive is based on carnal, animal instinct is an essential part of our emotional honesty. Without this we are not in touch with ourselves and we become less understanding of our motivations and desires. Without self understanding there is less control and increase stupidity: This kind of stupidity leads to cause evil and foolishness"

In all the beliefs listed on this page God is seen in the same way: It is Evil, an oppressor, enemy, conscious being, who must be resisted, whose biggest lie and source of power is that he stands for "good deeds only", a White Light concept that leads to evil, counterproductive pride, destruction and stupidity. As the majority of mankind is weak minded and feel they are worthless they will accept anything that tells them they are worth something: And the attention of some comsic karmic judge is a great compliment.
