And what do you think about other religions?
And there is a Heaven and a Hell. And there is a God and a Devil.
Not believing in Heaven is pessimistic.

Better to believe and be wrong, than to not believe and be wrong.

Personally, I'd rather be wrong with my own opinions and thoughts, than be wrong with what my church drummed into me

I don't see anything wrong with having your own beliefs either way on the subject.

I just say live & let live, as long as what you believe doesn't hurt anyone.

I lean toward being a christian, but I do see some flaws in religion.

well, i dont buy it, but then again, you gotta leave room for the possibility that, well, maybe it is true, Maybe there is a god.
im still in school, and my best friend is a jehova's witness. im...kinda always asking him religious questions all the time, bla bla bla. And i asked him why god doesn't like..you know, HELP us OUT. and he said that its because of what adam and eve did. You know, picked off the fruit cuz they followed that serpents advice and well, pissed off god and banned from Eden, in othesr words, banned from that great life god had set for humanity. so all their kin, (humanity) would have to live outside those gates and live under hunger, famine and stress. he explained 'its all in the bible.
now i dont mean to put down anybody's religious beliefs, but i just dont believe in the bible, or for that matter bible justice, such as an eye for an aeye. forexample, if someone kills someone else, that someone must also die for what they did.
Well, then, if its an eye for an eye, then everybody's bound to go blind.
Any thoughts?

Yes, I thourghly buy into Christianity! However, it is a decision only you can make! I don't ever want to force anyone to believe in Christ! If you know all the facts and are educated enough to make your own decisions - as bad as I want you to be a Christian I say have fun being whatever you decide to be....in the end, on Judgment day, I will shed a tear for you......but you believe what you want

Ack , hopefully this thread wont lead to another pointless "does god exist" debate .
anyways I am christian because I read the bible and bought into it . On the plus side it offers a chance of getting into heaven while being atheist will at best get you into nonexistance . I just like to take my chances with something that has a good outcome .

Yep I buy into the Christian thing. I'm think Satan believes there's a God too... (if you believe there's a Satan)
There's a good mix here of athiest, pagan, christian, wiccan, buddhist, taoist etc it seems.... or at least people here know how to look at things from different perspectives, one of the many reasons I like these forums.

At the risk of this thread turning into yet another God is God isn't debate , I would like to state my opinion on the whole thing ... Religion is basically honouring your beliefs right .. If it is honouring creation , then there is only one way we where created I don't know which way that was but I know it is only the one way . If it is honouring a god or gods , then there will only be either one God or several Gods or If your Budhist just a higher conciousness ,but in the end it is going to be just one of these things not all of them . I think clinging to rigid beliefs and argueing mute points is silly , In the end the one thing we can be sure of is that we all come from the same place and even if I don't understand what our spirituality is yet . I'm glad that we have it ..

as for other religions, i feel truth in the ones that dont teach 'us and them'. i also have the utmost respect for those religions that dont point out certain groups of human beings and judge them as 'wrong' in their way of living and loving. lastly, i feel truth in those beliefs that are based on tending your own while not demanding everyone who doesnt believe like you is 'doomed'. harm ye none, right? that alone is enough for a lifetime of true happiness if one can do it.......
of course spreading love to everyone and everything cant hurt, but one doesnt have to be disrespected or harmed in the process....love thyself too. (OH NO, is that a bible quote?

I guess you could say it's good for people to belive in something, otherwise if there were nothing to look forward to in the afterlife. Then what kind of hope will there be here on Earth? Imagine the madness that would occur if some one proved there was no God. We wouldn't care what we do to others because who would call us to take account for our actions after we die?

Hey,
This is just my humble opinion. But I think that there is a God and a Devil, but I don't believe in all of Christianities beliefs. I also think that every religion out there has good points to as well as bad ones.

Maybe not after you die, but certainly during it, there is the law or your peers.
Besides that, I have morals and consideration for others. I don't need a God or omniscient (is that the right word) prescense to tell me right from wrong because my parents have brought me up to descern which is which and act accordingly.
I usually imagine how I would feel in the other person's position and that can usually tell me that what I'm doing is probably nt so good/bad.

I have given religion a great deal of thought over the years, but still haven't come to a conclusion as to exactly where I stand on the issue...
I took a comparitive religion course years ago in college, and I really enjoyed seeing other points of view, in the US we tend to get a little too focused on christianity and other religions don't have much exposure to the average joe here.
I can see good and bad in each religion, it isn't a black and white issue to me.
Amongst all that I have studied, christianity definately ranks the lowest in my eyes. That is my opinion, like it or not. I could name so many factors that bother me about it, but I think the bottom line for me is that any religion that says "we are the only true religion, everyone else is going to hell" just doesn't seem right.
Depending who you ask, Mother Theresa is either on her way to sainthood, or burning in hell for not being reborn and accepting christ as her own personal saviour. Seems a bit odd to get such a diverse reaction out of a group of people that are worshipping the same god.
Conversely, I very much like some of the things in the new testament, there is some beautiful stuff there that I would consider good words to live by. Of course that is true of the books of the other religions I studied. In the end, I really like the "conversations with god" series by Neale Walsh, seems like as good an explanation as any of why we are here....
I could go on, and really do enjoy the debate of religion, but that is probably not best for this thread, so I will stop here.

I agree with Seraphina on this one. I am a Christian, but I do not base my beliefs upon what has been attempted to be taught to me a Church; or any other Religious Establishment. I believe because i have looked around with open eyes and choosing Christianity as best have taken that path. If I be wrong, then may what ever god ther is have mercy on my soul.

I didn't go to church when I was a kid and the only time I went to church was to see my older sister get her Canadian Accord (Pathfinders) I didn't really grow up with a religion though my dad went to a Unitied Church in Vancouver when he was young and helped out there. I can't remember if my mom went. Anyway, I just don't like it when people try to force their beliefs on other people. It's not fair.

Probably the most important thing that ANY religion or belief can teach us. Your parents did a great job!
