Why do the ghosts choose to hitchhike?
In some extreme cases of roadside ghosts, the person is never seen again.

I've heard of people driving down dark roads at night, to see a person standing at the side of the road. They stop to let the hitchhiker in. They go down the road to the place the hitchhiker told them to, but there is only an abandoned house there... The person turns around to the place the hitchhiker was, but the hitchhiker is gone.
Why do the ghosts choose to hitchhike?

There are many stories of ghosts hitchhiking but until I actually pick one up, they're just stories to me.
If it has happened, I suppose the spirit must be caught in some sort of "loop" which it believes "it's" actions are the only course available. Like an eternal nightmare...

I like that explanation. I never thought of it that way, but "an eternal nightmare" sounds almost perfect to me.
I don’t know if it’s because I do the Night shift and I’m often quite tired but I saw something that has confused me.
On my way to work last week about 19:30hrs I saw a child standing at the side of the road, I slowed down as a safety precaution and averted my eyes just for a second to check my exact speed but when I looked back up the kid was gone!
At the time I didn’t think another thing about it although I did wonder where the kid had gone because he was standing on the pavement/sidewalk that back’s onto a large concreted area where people have there cars washed by hand, the car wash business had closed for the day and the concreted area was empty, there was no where for a small child to hide in such a short time.
I will get a photo to show you guys where it happened but it might be the Daytime and the Car wash business will be open, however it will give you an idea what I am trying to explain.
I understand this sounds a bit odd but it has truly confused me.
