...when I made that winning put. Is what some golfer just said on the news over here when he won some menial championship. And I couldn't help but wonder at this arrogant comment: So if Jesus was with you why wasn't he with that broker in Canada who got mugged and shot in the face around the same time?
I know not all Christian folk say that either God or Jesus was with them when something good happened to them, but I'm wondering if any of you have had that feeling...as if they were? And if you thought that perhaps their divine powers could have been put to better use?
Ugh, yeah, the comment just bugged me is all.

Why does it bother you that God may actually help people? Did the people you comaplin WEREN'T helped ever ASK God for his help? Probably not. It's ASK and you will recieve.

Does it really matter if Jesus or God was with you or not? If something good or bad happens it's a little strange to say that God is responsible. Anyway, I asked for money once.

I was just wondering what if someone was trying for a child then one day it happened and the woman said Jesus was with us that night.....I would wonder what Jesus actually did that night.....

So, so true. I saw God at a soccer game once.

I don't think when people say that, that they mean it in an arrogant or selfish way, even though it sounds like it. But when something happens that you're praying so hard that you get it, and you do. It's like a miracle, and who can preform miracles other than Jesus?

He may have come across as being arrogent- He prayed hard for the win, and his prayers were apparently answered. It's not arrogent, it's more of an open Thank You to God for answering his prayers, or giving thanks.- the way I see it. :}

If you're a believer, God is always with you. Why would he abandon you while you're playing golf?

Or is it possible that God didn't help him at all and it was just skill?

I'd rather pray about it, and increase my chances than not.

I had the weirdest thing happen to me one day....I was coming home from a friends house and on my way home we have to take I81 highway to get from one town to the next and its probably the most dangerous death trap of a highway Ive witnessed. Anywho...As I was coming home I noticed that traffic was backed up for miles and miles. You couldnt see the accident anywhere in site, just cars. I had to be back to get my mother and I didnt have a cell phone at the time to call her so I worried. I thought to God, shes going to worry if she hears car wreck and doesnt see me there or shes going to wonder where I am....As I thought this I heard this still voice say "dont worry its just a spill"....I just rubbed it off as myself and went on and ended up getting on the exit ramp a few minutes later. I told mom about the accident and she didnt hear anything about it so that night when I got home the news came on at 11 so we decided to watch it. Come to find out there was a HUGE chemical spill that covered the whole highway and had been blocked off so that no one came in contact with it or the fumes. I almost lost it when I heard what was said on the news because I heard that small voice say "o its just a spill"....I dont know if I was just lucky and thought of it out of no where or something (doesnt necessarily mean God) told me of what had happened before I could see it.

I've played quite a few sports and although I ask God for health and a good workout, I think if I made a game winning shot it was the result of my skill. I mean I think God has more important things to do than to make your golf swing spectacular, but before I workout, or embark on a very strenuous exercise session I'll ask God for endurance and health. Thats just me, I mean who knows maybe God had something to do with that guys shot, He works in mysterious ways sometimes.

I do think that some people do it to keep Jesus in mind, and to be thankful when they win something. But maybe it's just a narrow "it's all about me" kind of attitude in the end anyway. When I was a Christian going to church, I heard that all of the time. The preacher would say "Jesus is with us" over the most ridiculous things, and I have to say I never felt it. I always thought Jesus should be where he was needed most. I also believed that our thoughts should have been there too.
I can't help but think of the people or entire countries who actually need Jesus to be with them. It seems really arrogant for a fortunate person to be thinking only of themselves "Jesus was with me when I made the winning put" Whenever I hear something like that it automatically makes me think of all the crap in the world that goes unnoticed by people who think that Jesus is with them when they're golfing, or making money at a church bakesale.

I have to agree with you....this reminds me of the Baptist Hymn, where the words are "When two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in their midst"
SO, to me, you have to be Christians, more then one, talking about God, in order to have Jesus in their midst

THAT'S why the Etheopians are all born diseased. They're not talking Christians talking about God.
