When I was seven I got caught up in the workings of a helter-skelter. I panicked and left my body for what I think was around five minutes. I watched myself (briefly) before I fled. I waited outside the ride and saw myself run outside with my two friends. I felt very calm and peaceful as I watched myself and it was very strange to watch me, as I would watch a stranger. As I ran I felt the jolting sensation as I became whole again. When both of me joined I had no idea what my body had been doing, even though I had seen myself acting normaly. I could only remember what I had seen from the outside.

In 1991 when I was 22 and just returned from the first Gulf War, I visited Hamburg with my wife and some friends. I was on the road and a car horn blared. As soon as it happened, straight away, I was on the other side of the road looking at myself. This time it was shorter, seconds only. But again I felt peaceful and calm with no trace of panic at all. This time however I thought I saw the me in the road jerk his head up to look in my direction. He did'nt look straight at me so I'm not sure he was aware I was there.

This is the only two times this has happened. There has been times I have been a lot more afraid than this. In 2003 in the second Gulf war I was shot and nothing remotely like the above happened.

I don't see ghosts, I'm not phsycic and apart from this, nothing supernatural has happened to me. What are your thoughts on this? How could brief 'frights' cause this when more severe trauma cannot? Is it psycological brain trickery or does it go someway to prove the existence of a soul? If the soul does retreat, how can our bodies still function, and function normaly at that?

Anyone can have on OBE, that's what's so brilliant about it. There are a lot of techniques being discussed of how to induce this and a lot more people who'd be willing to comment further on this topic in UM. Astral Travel & My Technique. Any answers to your questions should hopefully be answered here. It's happened to me as well. original.gif

woah this pretty interesting! I can't think of a name to call this other than an out of the body experience, but it's fascinating that it happened the way it did with you!

The experiences you describe sound a lot like the theory of the silver cord. That being that our astral or spiritual body is connected to our physical body by a silver cord and only when it's our time to go ( die ) is the cord broken. It allows us to always be able to return to our bodies during Astral projection or OBE's and it prevents other spirits from being able to 'walk in' .... The connection of the silver cord that exists between your body and your spiritual body is unique and specific to you, no other spirit can interfere with that.

But the point of the silver cord theory is that our spirit can separate from the physical body just before death and then the cord is broken which releases us from the physical....

I am more concerned as to how your physical body was moving on its own whilst you were "out" - something has to control it.
Lady_Anvilabeel
Even if the astral body is projected he would still have control of his body as he is still attached to it, it's just a shift or projection of conciousness... Take meditation for example, everything including the senses still function and work no matter how deep one goes..

My recollection is when I looked at my body, that it was me. That is to say, I was not merely 'functioning', but it was actually me, body, mind and spirit. I know there are theories about our higher, middle and lower 'selves', but I got the very strong sense that my body and everything in it was unchanged. Do you think the soul is something altogether 'apart' from us? Could it be that it stores everything we are but is not a part of our physicality or intelect?

Every time I talk about this I always end up with more questions.

Based on what Anvil has said, I'd like to ask you a question. The first being, whether you had control, at all of either your body OR your...let's say spirit?

And Anvil, I'd like to ask you; during an out-of-body experience, is it possible that his body could have contained his concious mind whilst his spirit contained his subconcious mind. By this I mean, while in an OBE, does your body act like a ghost, in which it is only able to perform tasks that you have done before and cannot learn, somewhat like a programmed machine?

That is a good question. To the first, no, I had no control over my body both times. To the second, I'm not sure. When I fell into the helter-skelter I wanted out, and my 'spirit' did get out, and when I wanted back into my body, I did get back in. I'm not sure if these where concious decisions on my part or not.

When the horn blared it was like I observed only. The only movement I recall was the great speed slaming back into my body. That I am pretty sure was'nt a concious decision.

It's a good question hewa, and it's one I'm not sure of, as the majorty of OBE or astral projections occur when one is sleeping or in deep meditation hmm.gif where the body isn't doing anything at the time.....It makes Lee's experience unique...

It does sound from he described that his conscious awarness shifted/projected and I would also assume that the time scale of this would have been tiny, for a few seconds only but probably felt much longer, Lee?

Ok, this is my first post, and I don't know if I did it right, but I need some advice or explanations. I wasn't sure where to look, so I'll start here. I am 33 years old with 2 kids and a husband. About 2 weeks ago, My husband had just came home from work (he works graveyard shift) and we talked for a few minutes, and he went to go get ready for bed, it was a little after 8am. Nothing out of the ordinary, just the same everyday routine. I finished my coffee and went to go jump in the shower. When I got out, I went to the bedroom where he was sleeping to get dressed. When I walked in, everything seemed normal. He was laying on his back with his eyes closed. I kept quite, got my clothes, and walked to the door to shut it. When I saw him, he was elevated about 3 feet above the bed! He wasn't moving, or floating around the room, he was just hovering above the bed. He didn't look awake, and he was in the same postion as he was when he was laying on the bed. I was scared out of my mind, and I screamed and ran from the room. I waited outside the room for a few seconds to see if I just imagined it, and went back in, and he was still hovering in the air. I started yelling his name, hoping to wake him up, but he didn't. I continued to stand by the door, and just watched him. I don't know how long it lasted, probably 2 or 3 minutes, then he just went back down on the bed, still in the same position he was sleeping in. He didn't wake up. I went over to the bed, and woke him up. I was crying and hysterical. I told him what happened, and he didn't believe me. He said he didn't have any bad dreams. My husband is not a practical joker, and had just got home from a 12 hour shift, so he was tired. I have never heard of anything like this, and probably wouldn't believe it if I had. I told my mother, and I can tell she is skeptical. It was daylight outside, so bad lighting was not an excuse. I know what I saw, I just want some information as to what could have caused this. We are not mediums or catholic followers, which I know who have claimed to be able to levitate in certain situations. I wasn't dreaming and I'm not crazy. Nothing strange has happened since.

Hi aliamp!

I'm curious to know if your husband was completely above the bed or just as a projected double?

Very interesting thread.

I met someone yesterday, who had such experience, transforming her life. I haven't experienced it but I am keen to learn about such experiences. I shall read this thread with great interest original.gif

He was hovering in the air over the bed, there it wasn't a projected double, kind of like he just floated up a few feet, then I saw him float back down . Since yesterday, I have tried doing some research, but from my findings, all documented cases of human levitation, of which someone has no control, which I'm assuming he didn't because he was asleep, were all either fraud or illusions. There have been cases of nuns during rapture which have claimed to be able to make themselves levitate, but my husband's case was nothing like this. He is curious as to what I saw, and is trying to be understanding, neither of us know what was meant by this. Thanks for the replies..

Sorry I took so long to reply Anvil. The second time, yes, for sure, only seconds. The first time I still feel was around five minutes. Although I can't swear to it, as when I think on it, I still view it through the eyes of a child. My best guess at the second one was five minutes, but I'm sure through time and growing up it may be unreliable.
