The two films were alright I can't honestly say I got my moneys worth (I would pay to go see Death Proof though), I probably would of enjoyed it more if I rented the movie and saw it with friends in a basement somewhere taking shots when somebody dies or whatever.

Anyway Planet Terror was a cool zombie flick nothing spectacular but it was better then most zombie films and I have to say this is Robert Rodriguez best film since El Mariachi. It was just alright to me.

Death Proof: Haters be damned the film was ingenious, a masterpiece, clearly a future classic film, Tarintino's best since Pulp Fiction. This movie is ten times better then Planet Terror or any film released this year. I can't believe all the hate on this movie, cool dialogue, plenty of fan service (foot fetishes, a cheerleader, and bad ass girls in a F******* White 1970 Dodge Challenger with a four-forty engine from Vanishing Point), a huge car chase scene, and the best head to head car collision I ever saw.
Stuntman Mike is not badass like all other serial killers/stalkers who prey on women they turn out to be pansies which justifies Stuntman Mike being a complete wuss when he losses control, losses is security blanket, is outside his comfort zone, and the tables are turned. while Tarintino is not the first to do this I can't believe the rampant hate over this, this is pure grindhouse material here and I can't believe people are defending Stuntmans character the dude was a freaking psycho and his true colors showed when his victims fought back

argghhh damn cant stop editing my post Death Proof is just that awesome I can't believe people are hating hard on this. The theater went crazy in laughter and applause when Stuntman Mike was crying and got the beating he deserved.
Also the fake trailers were funny damn wish Machete was a real film.

edit oh snap machete is pre-production http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0985694/

Yeah, I've heard it's one of those "love it or hate it" movies...I'll check it out. Only because Rosario Dawson's in it blush.gif

It's already available on bittorrent.

That's where I'm getting it from grin2.gif ...well, Bitlord, same thing anyhow.

Ya know....it's much better to just go see it in the theaters than pirate it and watch it on a computer screen.

But yeah....Grindhouse owned. I liked Planet Terror a lot better, mostly because I'm a huge zombie movie fan. That was purely what grindhouse flicks were all about. Loads and loads of over-the-top gore and violence. It was great. Death Proof was good, too, but I fail to see how it was an "exploitation" film. The story just moved incredibly slow, but the dialogue was pretty funny, and the car chase was insane. The ending was hilarious, too. I'd say overall, spending 3+ hours at the theater for Grindhouse is well worth it, especially for Planet Terror.

i hear that man. all i have to say about that though is i think they should have been played separate only because it was too slow of a movie after watching Planet Terror which was action packed to the brim. I noticed the theater got more laughs out of Planet Terror, but when my girlfriend tried to get me to leave halfway through Death Proof I looked at her like she was crazy. i mean come on, like i'm gonna go to the movies to see grindhouse and not watch tarantino's whole flick... gtfo. head on collision, I will forever respect tarantino for that incredibly detailed scene. i can't say i've seen anything quite like that before. anyways, i agree with what you say completely, but ill appreciate the dvd way more than seeing it in the theatres due to the length of time sitting there.

regardless, i definitely got way more than my money's worth. a must see in my book. thumbup.gif

It costs around $20 a person to see a movie where I live...not to mention $5-8 dollars for a small anything...that's up to or over $30 per person just to sit in a theatre for 2 hours. Screw that.

I hate theaters. Noisy people, dirty seats, I can't pause it to go to the bathroom or get a snack.

No, if you watched a lot grindhouse or exploitation films they were more like Death Proof long dialogue that added little to the plot (there only purpose was to get you to like or hate the girls), a few quirks here and there, a cliché/cheesy symbolism of male and female sexuality, random and or undeveloped characters, random plot holes that left us asking questions (also mind you a missing reel that was announced and or unannounced), and two or three incredible scenes. Being a former film student myself I cannot tell how crappy independent movies were back then, complete $H!+ most of them.

The exploitation was a psycho taking advantage of women but there is a twist the women fought back taking advantage of the weakness of the serial killer and then it turns into exploiting the destruction of machismo ("There is noway I’m going to let you go without tapping that ass"). I know a lot of the well known slasher phycho stuff kept the killer invincible to comeback in the sequel. But movies coming from the 70 when the female empowerment movement was strong you saw a lot of grindhouse/exploitation film where it’s the female who is the anti-hero destroying whatever man that was bothering her.

Back then few indie-directors could have come up with the money to make a movie like Planet Terror anyway, I would go as far and Say Planet Terror probably is the worst hommage to grindhouse cinema, yes it was cheesy and over the top but seriously you can see it had hollywood production all over it.

Death proof looked dirt cheap even had some bad cinematography and editing just like many indie and grindhouse films in the 70's. If you notice most if not all the cult films from this genre that people tend to like today they were actually good they had enough money behind it, developed characters, and well developed plots and that like about 1% of them so 99% of the genre is pretty bad.

It was amazing to me how the directors were able to invoke laughter into the audience seemingly at the flick of a light switch. Tarantino and Rodriguez might as well have been sitting there going "laugh! stop laughing, wait for it, ok laugh! laugh harder now STOP! ok laugh again." This is something that anyone who is into film can fully appreciate. It's NOT an easy thing to do. They captured pretty much every aspect of the old grindhouse films so well and it was really awesome to see. And MM, here it was $9 a ticket, $5.50 for a small drink, not AS expensive. I don't think I could have spent my $15 better personally. and it was 3 hr 15 mins of movie, quite a difference from the 2hrs you stated. Hell, I thought that made the ticket price a bargain. Anyways this movie got me really excited and i wasn't disappointed.

Saw it last night with a large crowd of friends. We took over the theatre and purposely bought several extra boxes of popcorn to throw at each other, ala full Grindhouse redneck experience.

Planet Terror was really absolutely brilliant. I loved every second of it. I was crying with laughter all the way through. The acting was perfect, the sneaky missing reel had me rolling around. And oh man, some of that stuff had me cringing, it's probably one of the most gross movies I've seen. And i've watched alot of smegged up Asian cult classics. Michael Biehn i was extremely glad to see as a real scene stealer for me, you guys may remember him as Corp Hicks in Aliens and Kyle Reese in The Terminator. He always was an amazing actor, but failed to shine out on the big screen past the 80's. It's good to see him coming back. The zombies were pretty awesome, in that extremely disgusting way. I bet anything Tarantino fulfilled a childhood dream in this movie while playing a rapist turning zombie with a melting-pussball for a penis.
But really, it was Cherry that stole the whole thing, she was AWESOME. Hands, down.
Oh, and Tom Savini's little cameo in there was definitely not to go without referencing. Go you master of zombie special effects go!

Death Proof was massive hairy balls. I don't understand why anyone would enjoy sitting through an hour of random dialogue from a cast of extremely annoying and uninteresting girls, just to see a sort of i guess twist ending in which we get to see Kurt Russell wussy himself out. It had it's good moments for sure, i had a good laugh through some of the better suprise moments of violence and Kurt was pretty spot on for the most part at least. It just felt like a slow comedown from a really awesome high.

The trailers were so good!! 'Machete' i totally want to see, and Rodrigez is already talking about actually making it is as a direct to DVD, i would buy that!! 'Rob Zombies' Werewolf Women of the SS was alright, probably one of the weaker ones but it had me rolling, especially when Nic Cage made a random appearance, right after me saying that he's everywhere lately after seeing his trailer for 'Next'. 'Don't' was done by Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead, and I thought it was brilliant haha really captured that Grindhouse feel. Did anyone else catch the cameos from the 'Shaun' crew? hehe. What else was there.. oh yeah HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN!!! Already plans to create it. wink2.gif

I couldn't agree more on this. One of the best zombie movies ever made. I'd have to say Freddie Rodriguez was the best in it, though. He was totally bad ass in this movie. Cherry was awesome, too. Rose McGowan is so damn hot. I thought this had some of the best and most gruesom gore effects I've ever seen, next to Dead Alive.

I didn't feel it was that bad. Definately not one of Tarantino's best, but still a decent flick. I thought the dialogue was pretty interesting. There's nothing wrong with the group of girls. I thought they were funny and played their parts really well. Especially Zoe Bell. She's a pretty good actress for doing mostly stunt work her whole career. Plus, she's kinda cute. That car chase was just flat out crazy. Kurt Russel was awesome, too. I'm gald to see him coming back to these kind of roles.

Hell yeah, the trailers rocked! I really hope Machete is made. Danny Trejo (sp?) is already signed on for it. I love in the trailer when he gets on the car and throws the machetes through the sun-roof like he did in Desperado with the knives. The movie looks a lot like a Mexican version of Shooter, haha.
Werewolf Women of the SS was a great trailer. The name alone makes me laugh. Nic Cage as Fu Manchu was definately the best part.
I didn't realize Don't! was from Edgar Wright. That's awesome. That trailer had me rolling more than any of the others. If. You're. Thinking. About. Going. In. This. House......DON'T! Lmao.
We didn't get Hobo With a Shotgun. What's it about? Haha. I liked Eli Roth's Thanksgiving trailer. That was actually a really disgusting trailer, but it was awesome, either way.

BurnSide
Yeah the Thanksgiving one was pretty mint. original.gif
Hobo with a trailer I did find out later didn't reach alot of cinemas, only a few select ones. Dunno why. It was a completition winner from sone University film students or something, and basically a Hobo on the street decides he's had enough with all the crap he's taken in life, and in true Hobo fashion, gathers his pennies, buys a shotgun, and goes on a crazy rampage killing corrupt cops, rapists, thugs, dogs, man anything that disagrees with his Hobo sense of morale haha. It was so funny.

You're right I was a little harsh on Death Proof. It was at it's core full out Tarantino classic. I just felt it was lacking any, well, feeling. I didn't feel any emotion towards the movie at all, that was my problem with it. It just felt kinda like a TV show, not really a big screen movie. I sure as hell wouldn't have paid JUST to see Death Proof, but you can be sure as hell i'd pay just to see Planet Terror! Man that was awesome. The car crashes/chases were pretty freaking awesome though no question.
I just wasn't interested in the lives of these chicks, it was useless banter that didn't appeal to me. I was thirsty for much more action after Planet Terror, and didn't get it.
Still, classic Tarantino and it scored points for that.
when.i.am.queen.
Aaah I cannot wait to see it!
Luckily here it is only MA, which means that I can see it. I thought it was going to be R, but luckily I'm in!
Saw the adds last week, and I so cannot wait!
(OK so I'm a little bit excited)
Is it weird to have two short movies instead of a long one?
jesspy
i hear goo dthings about these movies

alot of places are realising them as two seperate movies

i wanna see both together

but the split may happen in aus too or just at selected cinemas

As far as I can tell, I think that the dendy cinemas is deff. releasing them as the one, so you should be able to see them together then.
But seeing as how they are only an hour each, how could they justify doing them as two seperate ones?

yeah dendy is doing the double feature thing

but i hear some other cinemas are offering half price tickets to see one.
when.i.am.queen.
Ah ok, I thought that you said that they were trying to pass them off as two seperate films, for which you would have to pay full price for each.
Which, in my oppionion, is a little bit of a ripoff.

I still think that you would have to see them both together though...
Shakezulah
Actually, they are each an hour and a half, approximately, not an hour. Planet Terror is really the only one seeing on the big screen. Nothing visually great about Death Proof. If you really want to see Death Proof that bad, wait for the DVD.
seeking
im with the majority on this, planet terror was great. Death proof was boring.

I do want to see "Thanksgiving" though
Mad Manfred
What was with the very last scene in Thanksgiving btw? It looked disturbing yes.gif

I'm with everyone else...Planet Terror was good, the first 40 minutes of Death Proof was sooo boring.

And I wanna see Machete original.gif
BurnSide
They're making Machete, and Hobo with a Shotgun lol, straight to DVD movies. Sweeeeet.

At the end of Thanksgiving, it was what you thought it was. A roasted stuffed man on the table. Thanksgiving dinner. thumbsup.gif
Mad Manfred
Okay, I'm watching Planet Terror right now and I'm wondering - how the hell is Rose McGowan firing her leg-rifle?
Super Pancake
it wouldn't be grindhouse if it made sense
