In the autumn of 1863, a woman called Sarah Hall was living with her husband and baby in a house, which had once been a church, near Northampton. Her married cousin and her husband were visiting, and one evening as they sat eating supper, a ‘ghost’ appeared. It appeared by a heavy old sideboard, and the odd thing was that the ghost was Sarah hall! Her husband saw it first and shouted out “It’s Sarah”. The other three turned to see a woman who was exactly like Sarah, standing in a spotty summer dress. A minute later- the ‘ghost’ vanished. Sarah was not a bit worried or scared and said it had been like looking at a picture. One thing that did puzzle her was the fact that she didn’t own a spotted summer dress. Two years later, Sarah did buy a spotted dress………..like the one her ‘ghost’ had been wearing. The only clue is her comment that the house used to be a church, and churches were built on old pagan sites, as if the earth itself had a strange power………

So what was it? A time-slip? A shared hallucination? Did Sarah buy the dress and then remember the 'ghost', or did she buy it because of the 'ghost'?

My head hurts.........

When my mum and dad were engaged, back in the 60's, my dad was round at my gran's house, waiting at the top of the stairs for my mum to get ready. He saw her walk out of the bathroom, and go into her bedroom, without looking at him, or saying a word.

A minute or two later, she came out of the bathroom again, this time for real. My dad was utterly shocked, and told her what had happened. Bizarrely, he was pretty certain it was my mum he had seen, and she was wearing the latest clothes for the time. But different clothes to the one my mum had on.

I think she brought the dress BECAUSE of the ghost. As you say she wasn't worried, more intreged!!

I read about this phenomenon when I was about 8 years old, also I used to have a comic book from even earlier that dealt with this. Doppelganger phenomenon usually denotes some kinds of bad news, like your dad realizing this was the woman who would bear his children wink2.gif I've heard of everyone having a double, never seen mine but others have. Apparently my double did the evening news once for ABC. But in all serious ness I am a believer in things like this.

I remain...
