BUDAPEST, Hungary - Five thousand rabbits were blocking a Hungarian highway Monday after the truck that was carrying them crashed.

The animals came free after the truck collided with another vehicle and overturned, police officials said.

The M1 highway — the main road connection between the capitals of Hungary and Austria — was expected to be closed for several hours while authorities tried to gather the loose animals, media reported.


5 thousand rabbits, my god. if some of them escaped and had little rabbits, there could be an epidemic, i think. . .

5 thousand .... .... thats a lot of bunnies. My goodness, that must have been a sight to see...bunnies scurrying everywhere.

That would be a sight. Unfortunitally you would have to see the 500 that were reported killed in the accident, plus however many were killed by getting run over.

Ironically, I've been watching a family of rabbits that come into my yard to graze for the past week at the same time every day.
