Please don't think I'm a racist or an extremist for thinking this, but I think all Japanese stuff has subliminal messages. Anime in particular(including pokemon). America is losing its national identity. Fewer and fewer people are saying that their proud to be an American. Now anime is getting to the youth. I asked a friend of mine once if he thought Asians or Whites were the all around better race, now from him, I would expect him to say that race can't dictate the quality of a person, guess again, he said Asians were better. He is a white asian supremacist. Clearly he has been brainwashed, he really isn't that stupid, but he does love anime.

I agree with this. When I was 13 I was obsessed with anime, to the point where you couldn't even see what color my walls were because they were so covered in Yugioh and Inuyasha posters and stupid crap like that. Seriously, I was addicted to it. I even died my hair purple to look like an anime character. Now I can't stand that crap, it's so stupid! Take an anime like Sailor Moon for example, I've never seen a more boring, repetative show in my life! They do the same damn thing every episode! Some mega-villian sends a monster to go kill a bunch of little jailbait schoolgirls, the girls go through this long, drawn out transformation sequence, then come out of it with super-short skirts. The fanboys fap to them, then they go and kill the monster with bubbles and tiaras and crap like that. Then in the next episode, it starts all over again! Why doesn't the damn villian just send every monster out at once to kill them! Why!? It's so stupid! Sorry but Japanese crap just makes me angry. They probably do use subliminal messages to get people hooked on their crap, because you would have to brainwash me to make me enjoy anime again. It's repetative, mindless crap. *Goes and takes cover from the flames of raging anime fanboys/girls*

I used to enjoy anime but I do agree that it does become repetitive and boring after a while. That is why I stopped watching pokemon. I could not stand Ash's arrogance or the fact that he always won! (Yeah like that happens in real like...)

might recommend some. Deathnote. Blood+. Shuffle!. maybe Avatar The last Airbender.. that's just some anime that has no. or few repetitive episode.

Personally, I never really got Anime. They are poorly drawn for the most part and almost always have some really bizarre and tedious plot line. What really got me was how they would slow certain things down to make it more dramatic. It really made it overly dramatic to me.

Come on, there are so many words in English that if you listen hard enough, anything heard backwards can sound scary.

Make a list of all the words you don't like: e.g. Satan, Evil, Devil, crime, Terrorist...

Then listen to lots of stuff said backwards. Sooner or later you will hear words that sound like the words you don't like.

Bo-bo-bo, is probably designed to make people stupid. When you have a good program on with an intricate plot and everything and somewhat realistic characters, it can really make you think, but Bo-bo-bo is mind absorbing nonsence. They don't just want us to worship asian people, they want us to be incredibly stupid so that resistence will be futile when they decide to invade.

I hate anime. The animation and the storylines. They're horrible. And anime is overpopular. Especially Naruto. I hate it.

I've never understood why people think Anime is poorly drawn. If you watch the good stuff it's really amazing moving artwork. Of course, the stuff like Naruto, Pokemon and Inuyasha is rather amaturish (but no more so than say Disney , but some of the better Anime productions are breathtaking beautiful art.

My daughter is a Computer Graphics and Animation major with a minor in Asian studies. While she's not sure she wants to be involved in Anime production (she's decided to go into game production I think), she has formally studied the subject via 4 years of college.

No, Japanese Anime isn't putting subliminal messages into their productions, no the Japanese aren't trying to make Americans stupid. Remember, most of this stuff is Japanese language stuff. It comes out in Japan LONG before it comes out in the USA, and in fact it's way more popular over there than it is here. The reality is that Japanese youth and teens are in many ways obsessed with American youth culture and the producers of Anime are well aware of that... it makes for good marketing and lots of money... in Japan.

Well, they couldn't be using shows like Bo-bo-bo for the purpose that I described unless they were willing to accept casualties at home, but that doesn't mean they don't taint the english versions of their anime in order to add in the messages. Hell, they probably add it in in all not Japanese language stuff, to get the rest of the world to either see themselves as an inferior people, or to get them to hate America.

Well, that would be pretty interesting, EXCEPT one little thing.. the Japanese don't produce the English language dub-overs.... those are mostly produced in Los Angeles California by AMERICAN production studios. So there goes that theory.

I find it really hard to believe that a musician or someone who writes a song for a kids show, anime or what not, would take the time to put a subliminal message under their music. It's all power of suggestion. There's this one website, it's http://jeffmilner.com/backmasking.htm and it has like 11 or 12 songs that supposedly have subliminal messages in it. I personally think it's all power of suggestion. If you tell someone, "hey look at that cloud, it looks like a dinosaur", they most likely are going to respond, "well, now that you mention it, it kinda does!"

Even if the conspiracy hasn't made its way into the US, that only means one thing, the messages their sending are in every version, and have to do with supremacy, therefore Japanese people, just get a feeling of pride, while everyone else, feels inferior. Or hell, maybe it has nothing to do with supremacy, maybe the corporations are putting stuff in there to get people hooked, including Japs.

Ya I tried not to bring that one up in this thread.... but since you have, it's one of Southparks funniest episodes.

Funny thing is is that Anime it self is not even a Japanese word in the first place. It's an abbreviation of the word "animation" . Outside Japan, the term most popularly refers to animation originating in Japan. To the West, not all animation is considered anime; and anime is considered a subset of animation. And thing is that not all Anime from Japan is drawn badly. Some are good and some just suck, but I myself am a fan of anime, and so what if some show now are so crazy with fans and sh**, thing is I know about most anime before it comes here to the US. (I know that was a bit off topic).
And though you might not mean to sound Racist here thing is most of what some of you does sound really racist to the Japanese and making it sound like there the only one the do the whole Subliminal Message. But the whole thing of Subliminal Messages have been use for a really long time, by The Gov. and so on.

K, I used to go along with some of the more rediculous theories about cartoons containing some secretive meanings or messages behind them. I even once humored a friend who just insisted on telling me how the Smurfs were really a way to introduce the idea of communism to youth in an acceptable form..
This, however, has got to be one of the most crazy conspiracy theories to date that I have heard about a friggin cartoon though. There are, sadly, a few flaws in the design, my friend.
1) Not all animes are produced in Asian countries to start, and none of them are translated to english there.
2) I have no clue who initially came up with the idea that they were brainwashing the people of today and getting ready for an Asian take-over of the world, how they found the time to dwell on such a silly thought, or what influnced them... but I want some of what they are smokin as soon as this baby is safely outside of my body! It sounds like some white supremacy inducing bs to me and I just wanna see if I get the same reaction.
3) Asians are rising as in power, and Japanese in particular, but there are reason for that which cover the feilds of science. (They have been making amazing leaps and bounds, especially in medical related feilds, because over half of our scientists are still sitting with their thumbs up their butts waiting for the okay from pharmacutical companies which pretty much have the say so over medical issues here.)
4) This doesn't really surprise me as there will always be someone out there trying to say that we are submitting out children to some sort of message from the shows that they watch. I personally don't like that every prince or princess portrayed in a Disney movie has an issue with authority and happens to run away or what not when life gets too tough for them. You don't see me blaming today's youths' issues on them though. And what happened to the popular theory about the Teletubbie that said something about "Fagot bite my butt!" or whatever?
5) I would really like to see some of the people who dis the shows try to come up with equally good or better cartooning capabilities.

I agree, Deathnote is a great series. And I am an anime hater for sure. My major is animation, and I'm beyond sick of watching people oogle over bad story lines and poorly drawn characters.

What started the anime craze here in the US, was Akira. The first feature length adult anime to be shown in theaters here.

most anime is mass produced and very very poorly animated (over using cycles, and having very limited movement, that often times isn't even fluid). However, Miasaki's work is truly gorgeous. He's responsible for films like Howls Moving Castle and Spirited Away...he's actually going to be working with Pixar to produce some 2d stuff in the coming years (they bought all of disney's traditional equipment when they stupidly auctioned it off), so that is definitely something to look forward to.

I agree that naruto is stupid but honestly, a lot of anime is very well drawn and has great storylines. One thing I don't get, why does japan love giant robots so much?

I LOVE Naruto. I'm a fan of it obviously. So far, it's pretty good. I haven't lost interest in the anime.

I personally despise anime, never liked it.

Kid's anime stuff is no dumber than american style cartoons (or whatever you want to call them). They are all dumb... my children are becoming brainwashed right along with the rest of the country's youth.

I'm not really a fan of anime. But one anime movie I really love is "Perfect Blue".

I love anime (and manga). They're one of the main reasons I chose to go and study the Japanese language. Well, they were á reason, together with the language and the culture and everything as well.

Although I do think there are some subliminal messages in the films, I don't think it's as bad as you think it is. And Americans do it just as well. It's all about marketing, getting people to watch and buy their stuff (which doesn't work too well with me. I've only got about 3 or 4 anime films on DVD. But that might have something to do with the lack of available films here in Holland).

But the whole stuff with the 'play the song backwards and OMGOHNOES!!!111!!!1 a secret message!' is nonsense. You'll hear what you want to hear. If someone says he hears ''kill me" or whatever, you'll hear it "kill me"..but it could just as easily say "fluffy", it's just whatever your minds adjusted to. What you want to hear, you will hear.

Well I think I'm safe, don't really watch that show.....

I don't see how a cartoon saying "I love Satan" results in brainwashing people to be anti-American. And then you have all that American music that supposedly has Satan worshipping if played backwards. The idea is ridiculous. Most studies show that subliminal messaging has little affect by itself. And things like this are played backwards! How are you supposed to understand the "message" if it's backwards?

The last thing we need is more xenophobia in America. Believe it or not, not every country is out to bring down the US or the western world.
