That's not completely true. The current period ends. Another one begins. The Long Count does not end. I've never understood why a calendar from an ancient, dead civilization matters. Does something mystical happen on Jan 1 each year. It was great fun with the X-files but - that is fiction you know.

I think something is going to happen. I think it will have to do with the human race, and maybe mother earth; but mostly us.

If enough people believe that "something" is going to happen, then maybe something will. All it takes is for one person to tell another person and so on to spread the word, then they try to figure out what exactly is going to happen. If the end of the world is fortold, with the hint that we can stop it, as Nostradamus said, then maybe there could be a new time of enlightenment CAUSED by all the people who believe.

It fascinates me - a group of people, hundreds of years ago decided to create a calendar. They apparently got bored with it and quit counting when they reached 2012. And now there is a large group of people who think they knew something we don't. Think about it - weren't these the same people that assumed it was correct to sacrifice virgins to their gods?

Nothing outstanding will happen. The mayan calendar is completely ridiculous supersticious crap, and nothing more. So are all doomsday claims and that sort of stuff. People just try to profit off it.

December 2012 is an energy marker. The light/dark energy balance is measured every 25 years. As it looks now we will be transforming to a higher degree of awareness in the years following 2012. That is because we have shifted our collective intensions for our experience as humans on earth.

I would say we will not see anything that would be considered different. However it will be a turning point for all our earth cultures.

It is my understanding that the energy balance at that time will be the starting energy for a galexy that will be created somewhere. Even if that sounds very far fetched, it would be good to keep in mind that everything we do affects others and everything else as well. We are all connected with All That Is.

That could be, too. It's like when there is a prophecy, and people expect it to come true, they start looking for signs to make it happen. Maybe that is the power of the prophecy. A weird example is to watch Willow Now, there was to be a baby born who would take down the evil sorceress. Now, the baby did not grow up and become a leader to take down the sorceress, but people who protected the baby fought her. So, point being: although there is a prophecy, how it comes to happen may not be what was expected at all. People can MAKE it happen because they THINK it will happen.

They did NOT quit counting. It does not stop in 2012. The current period ends. A new one begins. If I remember correctly it's the 13th bactrim and the 14th will start.

Over the past few years I have had dreams that predicted a number of events, of both personal and global significance. My dreams predicted 9/11, the Iraq war, the London bombings, Katrina, most recently the VA Tech massacre. I mention this because my dreams have proven, at least to myself, a level of credibility beyond any mere coincidence.

Back in 2000 or 2001 I had this dream that until yesterday has plagued me because I know that it will come true. But it's never made sense to me. In the dream I am standing outside looking at the sky. A shooting star streaks across the sky, right to left. Then another, left to right. Then a third one comes. Except this time, it comes right up to me. But it's not a star; it begins to expand, and opens up into a tunnel. Inside I see rotating around the "walls" numerous colorful jewel-like spots. I begin to walk into the tunnel, and I know as I enter that through the tunnel I will evolve, transcend, move on to the next level of consciousness. Then I woke up.

Last night I was watching a show on the History channel about the Mayan prophecy, and suddenly the dream made sense. The tunnel with the jewel-like spots - this is the aligning of our solar system with the center of the galaxy, which will occur on December 21, 2012. The jewel-spots are all the stars, clearing out of the way for this tunnel to form. My feelings when I entered the tunnel mirror some of the predictions I've read online, about this cosmic alignment being a catalyst for change here for the human race and the planet. Seeing how many of my other dreams have come true, and considering the fact that I knew nothing of Mayans, doomsday prophecies, or metaphysics when I had this dream 6-7 years ago, I wonder how exactly this dream will come true in the next few years. Maybe then I'll get to find out what's at the end of that tunnel!

Yes its my understanding the Mayan's understood our solar system and its cycles through the galaxy. At that time our collect awareness will be evaluated as it is every 25 years. Because December 21, 2012 is the end of a larger cycle, the reading will have greater significence. Predictions based on previous evaluations, those prior to 1987, have changed based on our last reading, so we have altered our potentials for the better.

"End of the world" really, to me, needs an "As we know it" to make it a good choice... and "Spiritual Transformation" and Dimension shift would fall under the "as we know it" ending of the world thing...

Mayans were very Smart beings i think the reason why people are so curious about them is because there lifestyle, then they all the sudden disapeared? and most of there predictions did come true indeed its why this last one people are also beliveing.
the prediction goes, that they said the calender did stop in 2012 ,but yes it does keep going on forever in there numbers, the predictions is humans will make their first Alien contact, or atleast contanct with ones not like us. but very intelligent creatures.

If we could prove the existance of extraterrestrial beings (or they land on our planet ), the effect on the planet would be huge. I can see what you're saying, and I agree. That is one likely possibility. Our old way of viewing life and the Universe will die, replaced by the proven existance of other life forms. They would provide us with their knowledge, which opens new doors for us. After ever door, one has to close behind you eventually.

I don't know what religion you're apart of but I'm a Christian. People in this religion are always talking about how the time is near for Jesus to return. I don't really know the whole story or why people say this, probably because it does in the bible. I really don't follow the bible like that so I wouldn't know. I do believe in god though. People have said this years ago about Jesus returning to earth to take the good souls & leave the lost behind,something like that. Even before I knew about the 2012 mess. Since people think something big is going to happen in 2012, it seems sorta interesting that I would tie that in with Jesus returning since people say he's returning real soon and 2012 is right around the corner.

The mayan calendar was really quite basic, if convoluted. It had to be. While, as with all agrarian civilizations, they were quite in touch with natural occurences, and had some limited mathematical ability, they were severely limited by their world view/ scientific knowledge base. Ask yourself why they sacrificed humans by ripping out their beating hearts, and what they thought this would accomplish. Also, their astronomical observations were limited to human eyesight of what they could see in the sky, and the observable effects on the ground. So discount any "magical" insights based on the Mayan calendar.

I don't know if I remember this correctly; but a few days ago I remember hearing one of my professors speaking about US government plans with National ID cards or some sort of new plans for citizen tracking around 2008-2012. It could have been something else, but it is about the US government.

Marcus, I'm a Christian too. One thing you have to remember--people have been saying "Jesus is coming, soon!!!!" for about 2000 years now. Only God knows when the end will come. To put your hopes on a specific date will surely lead you to disappointment--or relief--depending on which side of the coin you're betting on.

Most prophets in the Bible avoided giving specific dates. It has never been the way God works. That is why I'm very suspect of people who give times, dates, addresses, etc. of when Jesus will return.

All of this was found in a Mayan Pyramid, I understand. Is there anything about the making of that pyramid or Quatzecoatl, the maker? I think that Quatzebaby was one sent out from Egypt by Thoth. Depending on what you think about the writings of Thoth and who Thoth was will control your thinking about the calendar. Now, there are things that are in the Tablets of Thoth that are true or at least people are still trying them, like 'astral travel.' Is 'astral travel' real? Are there dark spirits who control? All of the ones sent out into all the earth by Thoth, the Atlantean, were sent away from Thoth because of their strange and 'evil' practices. On 21 Dec 2021, an alignment will happen and it will be a complete alignment with all planets and the center of our galactic system. In 2012, there are several interesting things expected to happend in the stars....
NASA expects our sun to do a pole reversal is one event. Our sun also enters the next solar max cycle (time of most intense solar flares). Venus transits again which is a pretty rare event. 2012 is also the 'end' year of our Precessional cycle which is just shy of 26000 years long. According to some Mayan and astro scholars, that is also the year that the center of our sun aligns with the center of the milky way. Planet ERIS is supposed to be passing thru (might be at it's closest point to us - not sure, but all this can be googled). AND The *** summer Olympics begins...
There's more stuff I'm sure and this was all just off the top of my head, but perhaps there WILL be something interesting going down between now and 2012-ish?
