In the wake of the VTech shootings, I've been thinking about gun control, and the apparent ability of most people to acquire such weapons.

My question is: Does restricting the sale of guns to the public go against the Constitution's guarentee of "the right to bear arms"?

I would assume so. What I wonder is: what are the stats on killings with legally acquired guns to guns that are acquired through other means? If you take all the guns away from people who abide by the law to acquire the guns, the criminals (especially gangs) will still have theirs (I'm quite sure they aren't registered).

I say we just don't sell guns to non us citizens. period, your not american, so you don't get all our freedoms.

I think the right to bear arms is part of the Bill of Rights and is therefore applied to everyone in the US, regardless of their citizenship and residency status. Not granting rights to non-American citizens within the US is a huge violation of what this country stands for.

IMO, the right to bear arms was put in the constitution because of the time. Yanno, with the wars n all. It really no longer applies to everyday life as it did back then.

So, restricting the sale of guns to the public now imo, really isn't going against anything. I mean it is and isn't. It's protecting the public because half the time we like to flip our lid and take out the neighborhood but its violating what was written back in the day for that current time.

Interesting that you bring that up. It has occured to me that "the right to bear arms" was made shortly after the rebellion from Britain. Yet, if we think about it, why has the government not done anything to renew that clause? Some might call it tradition, some might call it laziness, but whatever the excuse, that clause still stands and therefore, hopefully, the government will honor it.

A lot of those students would probably be alive today if firearms were allowed on that campus. Criminals will find illegal ways to purchase weapons if they can't buy them at a store. They'll get them either way. Disarming the law abiding, innocent public so they're helpless in those situations is nothing less than ridiculous.

I really don't think that it works like that. Presumably with tighter gun laws, there would be much less guns is circulation. This would mean that illegal gun suppliers would have to look further for stock. I'm guessing that this would mean that gun availability/prices owuld go up, disuading many.
Here in Australia, we have very restricting gun laws which seem to work.
I mean, I wouldnt think of us as being asy less defenseless than those other law abiding citizens with a gun, especially reading about all those horror stories about people shooting their family etc...
