I gave my reticulated python a pigeon once...it wasn't much of a fight....

I'm sure there's plenty of myths involving bird-snake battles.....someone will come along with one...just ignore mine..

Oddly enough, no one has come up with anything. I asked because I saw a 4 or 5 foot long snake and a medium sized brown and black bird fighting in my yard. The snake ran like hell (or slithered) and the bird took off. It just looked like a myth or legend waiting to be discussed.

I've heard of a thing called a "Hoop snake" that will bite its tail to form a circle and roll down hills like a wheel! I know that's not exactly what you are loooking for but, there you go. Someone sent me a video of a rabbit attacking a snake once but, I've got nothing on the snake and bird battles!

I used to see bald eagles, golden eagles, osprey and other raptors capture small snakes and take off with them for lunch. Then again, eagles are scavengers, they'll eat anything they can get a hold of. I used to have to be careful to put my garbage cans in the garage and keep the door closed or the eagles would make a huge mess out of it.

I also had a houseful of birds at one time, and a ball python, the birds ignored the snake, the snake as far as I could tell ignored the birds too.

Now the neighbors cat and one of the birds DID get into it once. The cat required 2 tiny little stitches in his nose (a cockatiel didn't like how close the cat was to the cage and took off that little flap of skin in the cats nose). The cat never bothered the birds again and frankly, never came into my house again either. He was smart cat, once bitten twice shy. laugh.gif

It is said that the Aztecs chose the site of their capital, Tenochtitlan, because of the presence of a bird perched on a cactus and eating a snake

A popular myth is that snakes hypnotize birds so they can catch them. It is probably based on birds freezing in terror when they see a snake about to seize them.

In Indian Legend, the giant god-bird Garuda's favorite food are snake gods called Nagas. Garuda actaully looks more like a dragon with four limbs plus wings, than an actual bird, though has a bird like head with a beak.

Oddly enough, we were just talking about something like this in my art class. My art teacher said that she puts rubber snakes in her garden to keep birds away, apparantly if birds see snakes they don't come near.
